Hey guys, I'm new to these boards so I apologize if this has been covered/mentioned somewhere already but I'm dying to know if there's any news on another DS Castlevania game? Order of Ecclesia was incredible and I'm jonesing for a new one hard...any word?

Welcome to the forums

As of right now no one knows. With Castlevania Lords of Shadow coming out and with MS taking the reigns from IGA on the next 3D installment. Though when David Cox was asked if IGA was working on a new castlevania for the DSi he could not comment.

I seem to recall Iga saying after making Order of Ecclesia that continuing making 2D Castlevanias on handhelds doesn't fit the current business climate, so I would be surprised if another one was made soon.  What I am expecting is that Iga's next "big" project will be a 2.5D game (a la Dracula X Chronicles) made for PS3 and XBox360 and featuring Alucard from the teaser trailer.  But we'll have to wait and see.

This little tid bit from 1 up on 07/25/2009 might help ya out.

"Fans of Koji "IGA" Igarashi can rest easy -- Konami has confirmed that the man who's overseen the Castlevania series for the last 12 years is still with the developer and working on new projects.

Ever since 1997's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Igarashi has been the steward of the Castlevania franchise, going on to produce a couple of console titles and numerous entries on the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. But when Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima was revealed to be guiding Castlevania: Lords of Shadow at E3 (a new entry in development at Madrid-based MercurySteam), it led many to wonder what this meant for Igarashi's role with Konami -- or if he was even still employed there.

But speaking with Kotaku during Comic-Con, Konami spokesman Jay Boor passed on the reassuring news. "He is still at Konami, and he is still working on projects," Boor said. No details about what these projects are were given, although Konami hopes to reveal one of the projects at Tokyo Game Show later this year.

Maybe more intriguing, though, is what Boor refused to comment on. Asked if Igarashi would have any involvement at all with Lords of Shadow, Boor wouldn't confirm one way or another. Moreover, when asked whether a new Castlevania title would be released for the DS this year, Boor said, "I can't say anything."

So for now, it looks like we'll have to wait until TGS to find out exactly what Igarashi has in store for gamers. "

EDIT also an excerpt from an interview with Dave Cox

G4: So, is this defining what the clean break – what Konami’s relationship with [Koji] Igarashi-san is?

Cox: No, I don’t think so. I know Igarashi’s company is working on projects. I don’t know anything more than that. So, I’m sure he’s gonna make some big announcements and I’m sure he’s other things. He’s a very talented guy.

sigh, and they never did reveal Iga's game at the Tokyo Game Show.  i think there was an article that said that there was something else other than Adventure ReBirth that Iga was working on, but they didn't say if it was Castlevania or not.

I believe that Alucard teaser is for teh arcade game, it looks identical, art and design wise to other models in that game.

Yeah I think the arcade came out before it was announced, also I personally dont see much resemblance in the graphics between the two.

If and when we see another DS Castlevania, I don't want IGA to cheapen it out like with the OoE. No repeated corridors or level designs and no short-cuts taken that will lower the game's visuals and graphics.

Hmm, I'm guessing if another game ever is made for the DS, it would be a downloadable for DSi, probably in the vein The Adventure ReBirth or a mini-Metroidvania like Order of Shadows.  Other than that, I am expecting them to wait until the next successor to the DS (which would probably be the next Game Boy system with only one screen) comes out before making another full blown handheld Metroidvania.

I wish there was a way to put Adventure ReBirth on DSi.

I think IGA's next project isn't gonna be for DS, though.

Me too. Actually, I wouldn't mind some kind of "Konami Classics ReBirth" for the DS with Adventure Rebirth, Contra Rebirth and Gradius Rebirth on one cartridge. It would make a very very sweet collection IMO.

If IGA is able to produce another castlevania game for the DS I hope he brings back ayami kojima for artwork and miss yamane for the music for old times sake. Though I would prefer stage by stage, I dont think i could actually go through another metrovania personally, maybe after a while but as of right now Im exhausted on that type of set up.
