DXC is one of the best games the series has seen a while. By the way, when you get your psp, try to avoid the psp 2000 (slim). I got one just for this game, but the psp 2000 suffers from ghosting problems, which can sometimes make the crows and bats damn near invisible. Either way its still an awesome game.

There is also Axe Armor you can play ass
This seems like a Freudian slip because of the grammatical error, but
Axe Armor in SoTN really does play like ass.

...
Ass Armor.

Welcome to the forums. DXC is a perfect introductory game. I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much. Be sure to stop back and tell us what you think about it after you have had a chance to play it.

Yeah the reason I decided to go with DXC is because I figured it would be a great introduction game, and it comes with three games in one. :)

Welcome to the Forums!

It's too bad The DraculaX Chronicles came out for PSP and not for, say, PS2.  Many people went and got a PSP just for that game, and still long for it to be played on a better system or on the big screen (it's one of those games I bought the TV Wire Adapter for, 'cuz it's just nicer on a big tv).

Enjoy your stay here.

Jorge I finally got a TV-Out cable and man DXC really is so much more fun to play on a actual TV.  Some PSP games tend to look like crap on a  bigger screen, but DXC looks gorgeous.  You can really see all the awesome details in the background, and the bats don't blend in with the background so you don't get cheap hits anymore. I also got a plugin called FUSA which allows me to play it in true fullscreen without the borders.  Yay for CFW! :D

I thought FuSa just turned your PSP into a gamepad for the PC?

To Jorge: Specifically the plugin for fullscreen TV out is called FUSA SD. Also this plugin will allow PSP 2000 owners to play tv out with games using component and COMPOSITE cables. Previously only the PSP 3000 and Go could play games on regular red, white & yellow cables.
Here is a link to more info. http://foosa.do.am/news/2009-05-31-19

To uzo: The project your talking about is FUSA gamepad which also is on that site.

Very good pick for a first game  ;D .

Sort of makes me realize that even if I REALLY liked LoS I don't think it's right for new fans to start with it; I think a fan can put it in the right perspective while a nonfan may end up thinking CV is something it really isn't.

Heh, kind of like Resident Evil 5 vs the old Resident Evil games. Am I right?  ;)

^ Exactly.

In case anyone is wondering(which I'm sure they're not :P), the RE in my name stands for Resident Evil ;) That series has owned my soul since 1996. Tragic Indeed, but I know I'm not the only one around these parts that has sacrificed much for a game...afterall, you're reading this lol.

Anyways, that's the best comparison between LOS and the original titles as far as the fan base goes, that I can think of at the moment. But I don't know, I'm sure there's plenty of people here that know CV and it's fans better than me so perhaps there's a more precise example?  I'm trying to think of old franchises that were revamped with a totally different style, but RE and CV are the only ones that comes to mind at the moment.

Regardless, welcome to the forums :) I've been following this site for many, many years but just recently got the will to join. I think you'll enjoy the Dracula X Chronicles, and with all the unlockable games, it's a must have.

It's a possibly fitting comparison, but not the same thing.

In the case of RE, RE5 (I'd argue 4 too) was more than a gameplay formula shift. The older games had a very different atmosphere and much stronger storytelling. Once you accept that storytelling isn't just what you read or hear but also the way the scenery and levels help telling the story, you see that RE till 3 had incredibly strong storytelling, while RE4 and 5 had as much brain and atmosphere as a Micheal Bay movie.

LoS isn't the same; in fact, it possibly has MORE atmosphere and storytelling than past CV games. If anything, the problem here is that CV went through so many different reinterpretations, and under IGA the saga acquired a very strong anime flavour. IGA turned CV into something extremely japanese, and LoS is an extremely western game. If one doesn't know the roots of the CV saga he's bound to miss a lot of the references that tie LoS to its roots.

Yeah... though to be fair, Lords of Shadow has more Castlevania in it than RE5 does Resident Evil. (Mainly in terms of environments and later enemies.)

Yeah. I agree with this. I don't own Dracula X Chronicles for this reason. I don't have or want a PSP. Really too bad. There are surely at least 10 games on here I think would of been perfect on the Playstation 2. Like Gradius Collection!!! Lets see I have Mega Man X collection, Street Fighter Alpha Collection from Capcom... Also SNK put out collections of all their good series... Konami is not as nice at all. I see they finally put out some shitty collection with SotN, Contra (Arcade), and Frogger. Konami BLOWS.
