Topic: What is your favorite castlevania game?

It was my first CV and it had such a different feel than any other game I owned at the time.  It's dark atmosphere set it apart from things like Mario but it wasn't as brutal as Ghost n Goblins.  Sure it was a little confusing at times, but somehow with the help of friends and the occasional Nintendo Power, I was able to beat it... and learn that Simon died anyway.

huh?... I thought, that's an odd ending.  Then I learned there were other endings and the world made a little more sense again.

Dawn of Sorrow.

I thought it took what Aria of Sorrow did and improved on the formula in so many ways.

I loved the draw a seal system, the music was out of this world, the graphics were some of the best 2D graphics I've ever seen... I loved everything about this game.

Not only is it my favorite Castlevania, but one of my favorite games of all time too. ^.^

I'm going to cheat and say Dracula X Chronicles. It isn't just one game, but the overall package is the sweetest gift to Castlevania fandom we're likely to see in this lifetime. The incomparable Symphony of the Night, the long-lost and well worth the wait Rondo of Blood, and the surprisingly well done "arranged" version of Rondo makes Dracula X chronicles probably the best gaming value I've ever come across. A rare case of a game developer actually going beyond expectations.

I've always wanted to play Rondo of Blood, but I can't afford a turbografx nor a psp. IT should be released on XBLA

Or you could try that fanmade pc port of the pce version someone made. I doubt it can be linked here because of what it is, but with the info you sould be able to find it if you google hard enough.

Yeah, but too bad the port of Rondo isn't all that great. I'm glad I own and played Rondo before DXC came out, but it at least gets the job done

Thank you, I love both DS games.  I find it hard to believe that anyone would have anything bad to say about either of them actually, they're both so good.

Er, the pc port of rondo was almost 1:1 exact to the pce version. In fact, it was the pce version, just made so that even a redneck with no computer knowledge could run it.

It's very hard to choose my fave CV game, but I can narrow it down to 5. SoTN, CoTM, AoS, DoS and CoD. I can't choose between DoS and AoS, so I'll just say  the sorrow series is my favorite game(s) because if they put them on 1 cartridge, it could 1 game.


P.S. Who thinks they should make a third game in the Sorrow series?

I think he was referring to the Rondo port on Dracula X chronicles, which did admittedly have issues. Still, a legal port stateside is something I've been waiting over a decade and a half for. I still remember seeing the Gamepro article on it and knowing it would never make it to my poor undernourished TurboGrafx CD.
