I disagree, PoR did bosses better, it required skill but didn't draw the battles out to where you no.1 cause of death is boredom or you screwing up like once or twice after 10 mins of battle.

OoE did do normal enemies much better than any maetroidvania though.

I disagree, if the bosses on OoE didn't have that much HP, with the speed Shanoa is attacking, you would have them dead in a minute.....instead with the HP which they had, they were able to execute a number of attacks, catching you off guard, thus making the battles last longer and more challenging!!!

I found the PoR bosses to be HP tanks too, except a lot of their attack patterns were a lot duller than OoE's.

I agree!!! Each boss was having a large number of attacks, that they have catch me by surprise!!! It was the first time, after Circle of The Moon and Aria of Sorrow that i have felt that excitement, about a new Castlevania game. OoE was on  the right direction, having some flaws, but if there was going to come a new one, i want to believe that it would have been far greater and challenging than OoE was!!!

The hell, PoR bosses are easy as pie. Never had any problems with them, at all.

Then notion that PoR bosses were better than OoE is ludicrous. PoR bosses just stood still most of the time and took a beating within seconds.

The only PoR boss I liked over the OoE counter part was Death. I love that instant kill and circle that keeps the scythe in bounds and bouncing.

The only PoR boss that gave me trouble was Frankenstein's Creature.  Even Death & Drac were not too terrible.

Well, about halfway through and I can't understand why some people think this is the best Metroidvania ever. The art is nice, though. I'd like the artist hired again.

Sure has a lot of Les-Yay; seems that almost all other female characters want Shanoa (can't say I blame them, though)  ;D

Well, it has an interesting battle system, less recycled sprites, great soundtrack, nice designs and the best of all, high difficulty, until you get to memorize all attack paterns of the bosses!!!

Different opinions, I guess. I think AoS is still the best, though OoE is a strong second.

It really didn't bother me how there wasn't a whip --what did bother me was the randomness of the treasure chests.  As if grinding for rare drops wasn't enough --now these stupid chests had me grinding entire stages for treasures that may or may not even be there.  At least in Harmony of Despair that kind of a system made a *little* more sense...

Not entirely random, from what I've noticed.

I just beat Albus. At the first try I was like, "This dude is fucking OP!" But then I was like, "It's-a me, Mario!" and dropped his ass so hard. I thought the wind glyph was great on him at first, but then I used Vol Umbra and dude dropped like a rock, barely ever hitting me. Took me a few tries cuz I was always just dicking around, but I figured out his pattern after the 2nd attempt. Only times he gave me issues were when I did something stupid like stand try to kick straight down... and he'd kick straight back up.  :-[

Anyway, back on chests. Treasure chests. The higher the stage, the better the chest drops. In the first mountains, I'd get Iron Ores. In the second mountains, I'd get Silver Ores. In the mansion I'd get Gold Ores. Cashmere Thread was easy enough (Formors), but I wasn't finding any in chests until the mansions.

I also noticed there seems to be a super chest typically in the same places. I don't know if it's a random flag or if it just picks one chest on the map and randomizes it. But just keep going in and out of the stage and you should eventually get a super chest, which has a better drop.

But I'm finding a lot of my drops more easily from enemies lately, so...

Lemme think, boss I hated...... I hated Goliath. But then I equipped Ignis and um... the ice one... and just spammed the crap out of them and he fell pretty fast. But the bastard killed me so many times before that. I hated the crab, but it wasn't cuz the crab was hard, I just kept missing the platforms. Rusalka took me a while to figure out that I was supposed to stand UNDER the rocks. Gravedorcus pissed me off at first, but then I figured out to just stand on one of the ledges he makes until he tries to come at me from behind, then pummel his ass. ... Problem was I kept forgetting to get out of the way of his tail when I did that and there were so many sprites on the screen that I couldn't see me taking massive damage because i was standing right on top of him.

And yes, I beat Albus before finding all the villagers. >_> Fuckin' kidding me.... (got them now, btw. was missing the mom)

For each 1 point of luck, you get a 0,5% boost to enemies drops and glyph drops. Also, each normal chest on stages, has a 10% to become a rare green chest, every time you visit a stage. You can raise that percentage, by increasing your luck, for 0,5% for every 1 point of luck, to a max out 40% for the chests!!!

this is why a 99999 Luck run is the most enjoyable way to play OoE, Since (I think) there are no criticals, the grinding for glyphs/items is completely eliminated so you can focus on the game itself.

and trust me, it's worlds better than two hours on farming just for ONE mermaid meat.

OoE is my favorite of the DS Trilogy.  The main reasons for this are the harder difficulty due to having to actually use strategy and learn attack patterns of enemies, and the dark atmosphere instead of the anime crap in the first two DS titles.   I also like the soundtrack the best of the three games as well.   Albus mode is the best extra mode in a CV game yet.

I think OoE is a game that has a 'perfect' sound track. It's the first castlevania where I simply loved every single little song, all the others had one or two or a few that I just didn't like.

Of course, this is my own opinion.

Yes, there are no criticals, but keep in mind that no matter how much luck you have, the % for chests will  not go more than 40%. Only glyph and items drops will be affected.
