That would definitely break my decision to buy the system if the rumor is true, especially if it required an active internet connection. My internet is not reliable (because my roommate controls it, not me), so any time he felt like cutting off wi-fi to my devices? BAM. No game. At all.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing discs and the like phased out just as Iong as the alternative doesn't waste away my download limit & the prices are suitably reduced. I've found that preowned games can sometimes be pretty overpriced anyway.

I don't buy it. I'm sure consoles will keep pushing people to purchase new games, but this seems too heavy-handed and too unlikely a scenario for me to believe. Besides, if consoles started running only new games, how would this affect their business relationship with GameStop?

GameStop would likely be forced to go along with it, especially if PS4 went a similar route (whenever that'll be out). Or if the new Xbox releases first and is powerful enough that Wii U can't get multiplat releases with it. There are tons of other stores that sell games but only 3 next gen consoles to buy games for (perhaps even 2 in the early months of the new Xbox's release if Sony goes 10 year plan with PS3). Whether multplat releases between the next Xbox and PS3 would be possible is also up in the air.

Simply put, if this is true I will say FU to M$, and get the PS4. If Sony does it as well, probably still a PS4, but will only buy games after price has dropped WAY down just to say FU (and because the $$ doesn't grow on trees)

This is pretty crazy sounding and I really don't see it happening. Personally I rarely buy used games simply b/c I get them so cheap new online or on sale. Via eBay, amazon, or wherever a deal is. So I always get em cheaper than in used stores for the most part. However, it'd be such bull I think I'd skip the console. The only way it'd work is if all the consoles did it. Even then it would ruin so many aspects of buying games. All my friends buy used games for the most part. Couldn't rent them, couldn't take them to your friends, it'd just suck. I think the online pass is already pushing things enough. I already can't take my online pass games to play elsewhere. And if I couldn't get games new cheap, I wouldn't even buy games that required the pass. I'm sure Microsoft isn't dumb enough and hopefully not evil enough for this. Surely the sales of the consoles would go way down. I imagine especially a lot of younger kids wouldn't get the console b/c of this and wouldn't buy anywhere close to as many games. When I was a kid and got my NES, the systems was new and I got a bunch of used games. I'm sure my mom would definitely of not been able to get me all those games if they were new. Also, I will not be buying games any more if they ever do that download only shit. I think that's been discussed elsewhere, but yeah! For now, I'm looking forward to the Wii U. The next XBox is prob 2 years away so, can't wait to see it, but I'm going to put it out of my mind.

Digital-only games? WTF? What next, digital-only music? Digital-only movie industry?

That's a disgrace for collectors. If I buy a game, I want the whole package. CD+Box+guide, maybe artwork and stuff like that.That's the whole point in BUYING a game and not downloading it illegally. I have a real problem with buying digital info. It's psychological. I oppose to having to pay money for something that exists only in the cyber-world.

Just freakin perfect... Digital only is not the way to go. Especially in this economy. People can't just go out and only buy new games. Gamefly's sales would plummet. There are some people who just like to have a physical copy of a game.

One rumor i heard about the PS4 (which i am crossing my fingers for) is a game streaming service (much like netflix does for movies and TV shows) for a subscription fee. Personally i think the idea is genious

Hmmm.. This sounds like typical Microsoft to me. Suck all of the money out of the consumer as they possibly can for a lesser product than whatever Sony offers for cheaper.

This kinda sounds like Steam. And I really hate Steam. Having to connect to the Internet to partially download or verify a game I just bought the freaking disc to...and having restrictions on how many machines I can be hooked up to... I hate that with a passion. I buy a game, I want to install it (or if on a console, I just want a tiny install that'll help the game play smoother, but pretty much wanna play right off the disc), and I want to play—no BS holding me back or getting in the way. That kind of copyright protecting and moneymaking really only hampers the people who pay for entertainment, and does diddly to prevent piracy. It gets more sales, though, if a system refuses used games...

I rarely buy used, only doing so if it's something OOP. But by principle, and the fact that these kinds of steps usually limit the paying customer, I won't buy a console that has these kinds of limitations. If Microsoft does that with their next console, I won't think twice about not getting it. And requiring an Internet connection is the biggest load of crap in the history of console (and PC) gaming... Fuck-that-shit.
