Castlevania has been profitable, why would IGA be saying in interviews since 2005 "if this game sells, then we'll make another, it's up to the fans," if the series wasn't selling it's expectations.

They just want astronomical MGS numbers, which is why Kojima Production's logo is on the box.

I dunno, they almost did so with Silent Hill 4. It was supposed to be a completely new horror series before making it part of Silent Hill partially through development.
We got the original prototype video. It has SImon Belmont. LoS was always going to be a CV game, it's not an assumption, is a fact.
Also, it's NOT true that Silent Hill the Room was not going to be a Silent HIll game, it was going to be a SPINOFF then they changed it to NUMBERED SEQUEL. It's all that happened with the game, oh, and it was made by the (unexistent) Team Silent, so yeah...
Quote
"We started off with the title Room 302, but if the Silent Hill didn't exist then we still had the idea of Room 302. Without Silent Hill we didn't have this title, but because we did have Silent Hill we wanted to have something different, but it's kind of a mixture of ideas."

survey was fun, i got a kick out of checking all the CV games they listed.  i was expecting more chances to add comments though.  the one big time was the question "did this game meet your expectations", and yes, it was what i was expecting before i started playing, so i didn't have anything to say.

I basically told them to make the sequel more like Carmilla's castle and cut down on the high fantasy aspect.

Same here the tech demo was more castlevania than lords, and to tell the truth I had alot to say but not enough words for it the max was only like 1024 or something. Some of the things I typed down were that it needed some camera control, the frame rate, and way better platforming that is way closer to 2d cv(it is very possible to do that mario 3d land has proven that you can take that classic 2d feeling and put it into 3d).

The intention was always that Lords of Shadow was going to be a CV game, but they weren't sure if the higher ups at Konami would be ok with that. So during the early developements stages they had to make the game seem a bit...different than what you would normally expect from the series. This clearly shows when playing the Land of the Lycans portion of the game.

I can't seem to do the survey, every time I click the link in their post it just takes me to some german website and I can't read anything.

It's funny that you said this, because when the very first teaser for the game was unveiled, when LOS was just "Lords of Shadow", everyone said: "WOW, it looks like Castlevania!!".
Talking about how hatred affects one's opinion.

In this case, the hatred is actually inspiring exaggeration and smart-ass-ness.  It's my way of saying that it wasn't nearly CV enough.

Well, it is the best-selling recent game, so I think people who have problems with it are actually in the minority.

I'm sort of in the middle of the road on it. What really got to me were the quotes from Cox saying that lower than 8 review scores just don't "get" Castlevania. Give me a fucking break. I know the game is his and MS's baby, so it does kind of suck to hear people rag on it, but c'mon, no game is perfect. There is always room for improvement.

Maybe everyone I know hates it because we're all around 40 years old and have been playing CV since it started.  It's not just CV/LOS, I've noticed major opinion differences in many gaming 'controversies' that can almost be separated by the player's age.  It could be that our perception of the franchise is way different having experienced each game chronologically, or it could just be that we're old farts who don't like change.
It happened with Metroid when Other M came out, and with CV when LOS came out - but somehow the Zelda series has remained highly favored despite a lot of change. I haven't put my finger on exactly what the difference is, though.

Hahahah what?? Each new Zelda has the innovation of every MetoidVania (Hey, you can ride a horse, oh no now you can ride boats, wait, now you ARE the wolf, zOMG isn't this giant avatar bird you can ride beautiful?) That's why it's favored better, because it hasn't changed a bit since Ocarina (and LTTP talking about 2D ones)

Ahasverus, you're kind of getting a little too mad at an observation that branching off with different IPs isn't exactly new. I wasn't trying to prove that Lords was never a different IP, I was just pointing out that it's not without precedent. You're trying to 'prove' an argument with someone who wasn't even arguing with you.

I agree, it DID look CV in that teaser alone, but could you blame people from thinking that. You basically had Gabriel in an old tomb-like area, kneeling before an alter, then the Ogre busting through the wall. Just that, alone felt somewhat CV-ish. It wasn't until we got the concept art cards(that were released with swag package) that I started to feel different of about the approach. The art of Pan, Lady of the Forest, and such, felt very un-Castlevania-ish, IMO. When they initially tried to tell us that "Lords of Shadow" was to be a "Dark fairy tale", the thought of "Castlevania" was driven farther from my mind.

I am not talking about what people think about final version of LOS this time.
It was just weird that he said that LOS-teaser didn't look like Castlevania for the most people, when practically everyone said otherwise.

I disagree.  You can definitely point out similarities between zelda titles, but they have released zelda games that took major risks and were very different than their predecessors yet still managed to be beloved by almost everyone.  Majoras Mask, Phantom Hourglass, Wind Waker - they all took major departures from what people were used to. There was some initial resistance, but in the end those changes were embraced.  I still remember everyones shock the first time they saw toon link, and all the rage that came the first time everyone heard that he would be on a train.  lol good times

Again, we are comparing to Nintendo here... Nintendo does as Nintendo pleases because they have guaranteed sales for anything Mario, Zelda or Pokemon.
Laura and Gabriel arrive in the deepest cave of the castle and... they find IGA.

It wants me to log in.

Edit: looks like it has closed. But the damn thing wouldn't let me in a couple of days ago either. And it was auf Deutsch.
