How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Why are photo-realistic graphics important to people?

I don't want photorealistic games. I play games because they don't look realistic. Once they start venturing towards photorealism, the Uncanny Valley sets in.

Photorealism? Sounds like enter the Matrix to me. Soon enough we would not be able to tell the difference between Video Games and real life.

to me it sounds like the beginnings of the "Holodeck". While I would to explore a holographic world I still want my video games to remain as such. Both can be fun and each has it's own usage.

Yep. There's no appeal there to me.

Dammit, I want my games fruity-colored and cartoonish and most importantly aware that they are video games. S'why I like SUDA51 games so much; feels like the natural progression of the SNES, which is the pinnacle of gaming, IMO. Enough with this "imitate Hollywood" sense of gamemaking.

I want Photo realism... but does it matter to me as much as other things... eh, not really. At this point, graphics are already pretty damn good, or can get to a point where I feel anything better is miniscule... Would prefer physics to be better, so i can see less clipping and real movements though.

I think graphics are near as good as they should be. If anything, only slight detailing should be worked on, and yes, physics and perhaps special effects and lighting. Other than that, I wouldn't want photorealism. It just doesn't interest me. When things become more real, artistic creativity bites the big one. Gaming should never come to that point.

I think there is place for all types of games: 2D and 3D, Photorealistic and Cartoonish, e.t.c.

There's a place for everything in the world, sure, but that doesn't keep the majority standard from annilating ideas in one fell swoop just because it ceases to be popular or is out of trend.

I don't know how I'd feel about banging some hologal who looks like one of the targets from Mr. Mosquito. But doesn't matter anyway. My computers will always be too shitty to reproduce any sort of realism unless of course the world really is made up of interpolated tiles.

I guess it depends on the game. I can see why there would be substantial excitement over a warfare-based game with photorealistic graphics. RPGs and the like on the other hand, not so much. Ever since FFXI, I've never really digged the whole realistic FF characters, as I prefer the more cartoony designs from FFIX.

I remember when the PS1 looked smooth.

Photorealism? Sounds like enter the Matrix to me. Soon enough we would not be able to tell the difference between Video Games and real life.
at least graphically (and audio-wise)...
...but, no matter how photorealistic, there always will be some other differences left between games and real life. for example:
say you lose a battle/mission in a game. you probably will get taken over to some continue or menu screen where you can start said failed battle/mission over again. so at least you get a second chance in the game.
but in real life there are no second chances whatsoever and there never will be. here, any damage you suffer cannot be undone, and time cannot rewind for you to reverse any harm done to you. there's no turning back, and believing in second chances in the real world is just wishful thinking. once you lose a chance at victory, it's lost forever, and you'll have to live with it for the rest of your life.

and also, don't forget that there probably will still be some cartoonish game figures left even when the time comes for photorealistic-looking games.
GAME OVER
