I've definitely got it pre-ordered. I've been excited about another KI game for a very long time.  Nothing has come out since myths and monsters, and that was 20+ years ago.  It definitely looks like it's had a lot of work put into it.  It comes with a little stand that you use to prop your 3DS up which is supposed to help with control scheme.  Something like that was sorely needed with MP Hunters, which had a similar control scheme and gave everyone major hand crampage.
I've also started collecting the AR cards that come with the game.  Supposedly there will be 'hundreds' of them distributed, but many are very rare and can only be acquired by attending exclusive events.  I'll collect as many as I can and then just print the rest out.
This game is either gonna totally rule or totally blow.

This game is great.
It's just what I thought!

If you like:
-StarFox
-Panzer Dragoon

you'll like it.

If you like:
-Sin & Punishment
-Jet Force Gemini

you'll also like it.

Explanation:
-When Pit is in the sky, it's totally an on-rails shooter, with real-time commentary dialogue between Palutena and you.  You move with the SlidePad around the screen, and use the L button to shoot like a gun, and aim with the stylus on the touch screen.  3D is very nice, and the gameplay is silky smooth.

-When Pit lands on the ground after the sky missions, it becomes more like a ground-based all-range shooter.  However, Pit also has melee attacks if the enemies are close-by.  The stages have secrets, traps, and treasure chests that either unlock weapons or give you some food for healing.

So if you like that type of game, you'll really enjoy this.
Also, if you like to customize characters with weaponry/items and such.  The game has a slew of unlockable (and findable) items and weapons that you can have Pit equip.  Even two types of the same weapon might have different stats,  as well.

The music is also pretty great, wow.

I'm liking everything about it except the controls.  Playing for a long time leads to very cramped /sore wrists.  Using the stylus is precise for aiming, but using it to turn the camera really stinks.  Also, the idea of 'flicking' the circle pad just isn't great.  I find myself running when I meant to walk and walking when I meant to run.  The dodging/dashing moves also happen accidentally as often as on purpose.  I wish they had made the whole game in the air - would have been much better since the on-land part of the missions subject you to such crappy controls.  In retrospect, the whole idea of the included stand was kind of a red flag.  It's a shame, since the game looks great.
The guy at game stop said that getting the circle pad pro would alleviate the wrist pain, but upon further reading up on it I discovered that all the circle pad pro does for this game is make it playable for lefties.  Yes - they actually added the support of a dual analog device without making dual analog controls an option.  You can have two circle pads, but you can only use one at a time?!  I'm still shaking my head over that.  It's like they have such a huge boner for the touch pad.  Use it, or else!
The huge variety of weapons is misleading, because they don't do a huge variety of things.  They all shoot and they all have melee capabilities.  Some are weak melee weapons, and some are weak ranged weapons, and the rest have varying balances in-between.  You can snipe with staffs, but there are very few places where this is advantageous and even then it's debatable.  You also have different powers you can activate, but only on land.  Often when you need to activate a power, it can take several seconds to locate and activate it on the bottom screen, meanwhile you're getting killed on the top screen.
I've found that skill isn't the deciding factor in how intense you can take the levels, it has more to do with weapon strength.  Going into boss battles on very high intensity is just an exercise in frustration with a lower powered weapon, since the controls are too inaccurate to allow for dodging much.  You need to just have a strong weapon to just run up and take em down.
I don't hate the game itself, I am kind of upset at the missed potential brought on by a control scheme that just isn't a good idea.  What makes it more frustrating that they chose it is the fact that it's been tried before (metroid prime hunters) and it was a disaster back then - so why did they think it would be great now?  I'm guessing they thought the stand somehow made it better, but all the stand does is represent the fact that they kinda knew it had problems to begin with.  Great game, poor controls.

Yeah I play the game on my bed and use the stand.
They needed a button for dash, plus a direction.  the 'quick dash' is difficult to do in every direction.  I find myself just running/strafing to the right of enemies just so that I can quickdash left, as that's the only direction dash that's quick and easy to do for my left thumb, and I can do it 99% of the time.

My right wrist starts to hurt from holding the stylus, but then the game does remind me "take a break once in a while" which is a clue since it usually says that right around when they start to get sore, haha.

Still a great game, but yeah the control scheme is unusual.

I'm loving this game! The graphics surprised me. Damn, they are beautiful!!!

Also love the direction they took with it. I remember, before this game was close to being announced, there was always those ideas about a more mature Kid Icarus game, and I forgot, one of the companies pitched an idea about a more realistic take on the franchise(which, thankfully, Nintendo passed on). The style, cartoony, bright and comedic, is, IMO, perfect for the franchise. What makes me smile is how they kept the general "look" and feel of the original's world via items(hearts and heart containers) and monsters. I mean, if there were any perfect looking 3D takes on sprites, Monoeyes, Micks, Nettlers, among most of the others, translated perfectly. When I was a kid, playing the NES version, and glancing at the manual, if I was to ever think a 3D version of the "world" would look like, this sure as hell is the closest to my mental image.

It's awesome how Pit falls from Skyworld to Earth and then to Underworld.
It's also great how they did that in Super Smash Bros. Brawl (they even reference it in the game):

Palutena: It's like that game "Super Bash Sisters"
Pit: I think you meant "Super Smash Bros."
Palutena: No I don't think it was that
Pit: It was exactly that.

And oh man, the jokes!  The witty banter is awesome.
Pit: Medusa?!  She was a pain in the butt 25 years ago... and that was only in two dimensions!
(I don't know if he said butt or neck)

LOL, it's hilarious! When you encounter the old bosses, they automatically bring up the classic sprites on the lower screen and talk nostalgically. Or the first encounter with the Eggplant Wizard and Pit freaking out when Paluntena tells him that there's no hospitals in the game. It's actually a brilliant way to gain new players as well as tickle that nostalgia bone in old fans alike. It's funny and lighthearted that any young kid can come on in and play it, and have FUN doing it. It's a fun game. For us, we get all little nods. There are so many of them, it's pure awesomeness. So many "Remember that time...?" or "Remember those guys...?" instances that I can't help to smile. I was reading the monster list on the Kid Icarus Wiki, and  interestingly enough, they didn't even list ALL the monsters in this game. I think EVERY enemy in the original Kid Icarus shows up in Uprising.

I'm liking that this sounds a lot like Star Fox and Panzer Dragoon.

Just please, please tell me that Pit doesn't have his absolutely horrific Brawl voice.

I think it's a voice like that voice but not the same voice actor.
Pit banters telepathically with Palutena, almost as if he had a comm-link and she was at a command center.  She's also the one that decides your 'on rails path' since she's the one that gives you the power of flight.

Actually he banters with everyone who talks, haha.  Medusa sounds smexy... but I've heard her voice actress before.

Really cool game.  It's very energetic.  I play on difficulty 3.0 to 3.5 and haven't died yet (though there were a few really close calls).

EDIT: Ack!  I accidentally rated this topic something other than five stars.  Blargh!

I plan on getting this with a circle pad pro, although my strong hands woun't mind a workout with stylus controls (Ironically, I like Metroid prime hunters and Star fox command).

My 3ds has been collecting some dust lately (went back to psp/ lightwieght PC)
