I actually enjoyed the Resident Evil movies more than any of the post RE4 games.

Does that make me a bad person?

EDIT: I like them because they're whimsical B-movies with a taste for the XTREME and hot female protagonists. Not because they're in any way good. I just think the games have gotten a bit too action movie anyway, and if I want Action Movie RE, I'll watch the movies, thank you.

How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Milla Jovovich cast as Sonia Belmont... you KNOW it to be true!!! ;)

I would not be surprised. At ALL.

Anderson's movies aren't bad movies at all. In fact, they're pretty good action movies. But Resident Evil movies? No. Nothing about them screams Resident Evil to me.

How does THIS become THIS?! They didn't even spell Oliveira right.

In any case, I actually enjoyed the first movie the most, followed up by Apocalypse. When psychic powers came in, I was just like, "What the hell am I even watching anymore?"

Eh. I never really gave two fucks for the in-game canon anyway. Whatever it began as, it's basically been reduced to just a Japanese perception of a western action game with zombies in it at this point.

In that respect the movies were more or less entirely faithful to the source material... story, characters, or timelines be damned, at least the first two films got the tone right. And then it looks like John Woo and Ang Lee double teamed the writing staff after that.

Now to get back on track, a Castlevania movie should be more Van Helsing than Resident Evil, as had been stated before.

Failing that, I will accept a few alternatives if VAN HELSING proves too hard to rehash (God forbid that we might live in such a world):

A movie in the vein of the Neil Gaiman penned and Robert Zemickis directed "Beowulf"; in that the story is similar enough to be recognizable, but the production staff really goes to town on the trivial details and in the end makes it a totally different story that has the same events and world as the source material.

OR,

The "Dante's Inferno: An Animated Epic" style, where the film is basically scene for scene yanked from the game with some trivial changes but a more complete and flowing story, rather than cutscenes linked by sequences of killing things. Seriously, that movie was pretty awesome.

I'd like an animated movie with graphics like the ones in the LoS2 trailer.

Anderson is not directing the movie. Last time I heard it the director was going to be James Wan. I really liked how he explained his view on the series, so that gave me a little faith. He is going to incorporate an element that the Anderson script severely lacked: having the main character actually wield a whip.

Aside from the whip, I think there should be a few other core elements that should be in a CV movie. First of all, they should really try to evoke a creepy, gothic atmosphere. Think rolling fog, creepy graveyards, candles casting unsettling shadows, etc. Something like a Tim Burton movie. Sleepy Hollow is a very good example. Secondly, although this may be difficult due to budget constrains, they should show (or at the very least strongly imply) that Dracula commands an entire army of monsters instead of just having a handful of lackies. I felt the Anderson script really went wrong in that respect. Having a monster mash movie further strengthes the connection between the games.

Yes, you're a bad person and you should feel bad. >:( nah I'm just kiddin' yah. I like my fair share of crap to. Well, more than my fair share probably.
But I just dislike how utterly disrespectful to the fans of the series his adaptations are. It's like "We've got the license, why worry about adaptation? We can just knock out a cheapie with a few of the same concepts, maybe some name-drops. It'll be fine. We'll just use the name to attract a general audience who are vaguely aware the games exist." Anderson is just a better funded Uwe Boll in my mind. Not that RE is "sacred" (I'm not even that big a fan really) but nonetheless it is a series that is important to a lot of people. Capcom had George Romero ready to make a proper zombie film adaptation of the first game, and that probably would have been a hit. Which just makes the movies that were made seem even more unnecessarily disrespectful to the real fans.

I think the success of the movies as just action pieces helped convince Capcom to turn the games in that direction. (RE4 was initially set to be a real survival horror game after all, look up some of the footage of the original version of the game.) Though I can't see how you think the movies captured the feel of the early games, it's hard to feel afraid with a Ninjitsu Mary-Sue kicking ass left and right. That's why "Devil May Cry" became it's own series instead of a RE sequel.

As long as he doesn't stick his nose into it too much "Hey, Wan! Buddy, pal! The movies looking great but you know what it could use more of? My wife! Just nerf all of the characters from the source material until they're useless and have her kick ass for an hour- the audiences'll love it!" But yeah if he sticks to just giving money to the project without forcing too much of his personal input it might turn out halfway decent.

Alucard would be a little boy from 60s suburbia* transported to a whimsical, gothic castle full of goofy skeletons and a hint of nightmare fuel. In the end we'd find out the whole thing was about Bu- er, Alucard's daddy issues.

*Johnny Depp in mo-cap? Alucard would have to be a kid in any case.

I still have no faith in it ever getting past the development hell stage.

Lords of Shadow was already cinematic enough anyway.

So, you want a CG movie?

Anderson is not directing the movie. Last time I heard it the director was going to be James Wan. I really liked how he explained his view on the series, so that gave me a little faith. I think James Wan would have potential. He's pretty good at what he does(I loved Insidious), and he DID seem like a fan who was familiar with the CV series. I recall Sylvain White was also set to direct it(and he also was a fan of the series). I think, to capture that CV feel, it has to be someone familiar with the series. You can't have some pretentious prick step in and quick glace everything CV and say, "That's all stupid. Get rid of it. Let's make it somewhat grounded in reality. Let's introduce vampires as being victims of a genetic disorder that makes them sensative to UV lights. Let's make a world with deep drama like Game of Thrones. Really Hard-R, adult stuff!!!".

I agree with the monster mash thing. And I might seem to be ranting regarding this, but that's what I didn't care for in LoS. I guess it was a dream of mine that, if there should ever be a good HD 3D CV, I always wanted to see all those classic monsters appear. CV was, intially, Monster Mash: The Game. You had Dracula(Bela Lugosi looking), Frankenstein's monster(Karloff looking), Mummy, Fishman/Merman(Creature from the Black Lagoon), as well as others like Death and Medusa(they'd add Werewolf/wolfman later). I think I consider myself a horror fan more than CV fan, which is why I've always wanted to see these guys appear in an HD CV game. IGA didn't even include them all in LoI and CoD(though I did love the nod to Queen Medusa as being a giant floating Medusa Head boss that, like in CV1, was initially a stone bust that comes to life). I want to see those monsters again! Add Phantom Bat for good measure, but yeah. CV(well, orgiinal canon) always had those nods to horror pop culture. Pazuzu(the demon in The Exorcist) in HoD, those Leatherface guys in OoE, Invisible Men, Pupppet Master, and isn't me, or did those Evil Force heads look like Freddy Kruegers with demon horns? Love those nods to horror, because, if there was no horror movies, I don't think CV would even exist.  ;)

Howabout just "No Chris Nolan".  :)

I think he's overrated. He's done some good movies, but I didn't like Dark Knight Rises as much as I thought I would've(thought it was the weakest of the trilogy, which oddly enough, I like in order of their release). Inception didn't blow me away, either.

Hopefully this will be a case of "It's so bad that it's good".

This is my hope too, because it's the closest I'll get to legitimate enjoyment out of the thing.

I really like this , but still name a CGI game movie besides final fantasy the spirits within that does not suck, VII Advent Children, and Resident evil degeneration both rock so a cgi cv movie like LoS should be done heck there was a topic a few days ago on here that said Lords of shadow the movie or something. LoS has about two hours worth of cutscenes in total from what I watched or more.

Visually, AC didn't suck, but the presentation was less "movie" and more "long CG cutscene". I think Square even mentioned that this was their primary intent, that they were aiming to make it like a giant cut-scene(or a series of cut-scenes spliced together), which they succeeded in, but to me, it felt off. Also, Anything clumped together as part of the FFVII Compilation I shake off as as being uneeded. FFVII was a nice, self contained world with mysteries still present, but what FFVII Compilation did was open new cans of worms, addressing concepts that weren't even present in the original game(basically making secret crap up as they went along). The result was to convolute FFVII's world even more than it actually was. Not to mention indroducing the cluster-fuck of multiple world ending threats all happening within an 8 year period.
