For the same reason, I'm not much into online multiplayer.  I'd much rather play with people I know personally next to me.

I'd stream videos if it weren't for the fact that every time I've done so the result always seems to be a # of male viewers telling me to take off my clothes. You'd think there were enough explicit materials on the internet for people to be satisfied... >_>

-_- this is sad why... and next to me reminds me of the days of the n64 and gc SSB and melee anyone? Hell I remember get my butt handed to me in KofXIII IIRC by a girl who used kim( she was kind of a meanie when I lost I forgot about the rule you lose get to the back of the line arcades can be brutal, oh but I got her back in kof 2002 thank you Athena, Mai, and Yuri  :)

Yes you gotta like who you are first, some people think getting a partner will solve all their problems and it doesn't work like that. No one wants to constantly have to cheer up a sad-sack, when you have to do that you're not a partner- you're a nanny. This is not to say if you become depressed your partner will leave you, in fact they won't if they're worth having. Just that being depressed might not be the best time to look for love.

Personally, the woman who is the love of my life did help me pull out of a deep years-long depression but we were just friends at the time, we didn't become romantically involved until years later. (She's also the one who got me into gaming and is still a bigger and better gamer than me.) It sounds to me like you're putting too much pressure on it, and too much stock into designated timetables of when these things are "supposed to happen". They happen at their own pace. Don't place a lot of pressure on finding "the one" or whatever, just make friends and maybe you will click with some of them, maybe you won't but you will have another friend then, it's a win-win.

Yeah when I find her or vice versa I want it to be a 50/50 relationship also she better be ready because I want three kids  ;D

Also it's kind of odd you say that my dad has said some things very similar to what you have said like the friends part.

Haha, good way to put it. That is very true.

It's really sad that things turned out that way though. Shit like that just has to stop; Both in the fanbase, and in the industry itself. I'm really ashamed you had to go through that at all.

This conversation is reminding me of a song on the subject of geek shame/lack of confidence by nerdcore rapper MC Frontalot

MC Frontalot - Shame of the Otaku

You can get all of the lyrics here http://frontalot.com/index.php/?page=lyrics&lyricid=55
But the Japanese verses say:

This world has walls, a ceiling.
Outside, cars drive by.
The sunlight roasts my flesh.
Even a bird who chases a rainbow
finds itself blindsided by a plane.

This world has walls, a ceiling.
With the glow of our LCD screens,
we greet the morning.
IRL, lacking the sun,
we have no need for the sky.

It's about how a lot of us nerds do have this problem with confidence and tend to retreat into the imaginary worlds we love rather than confronting the problems, which only makes it worse when it comes to things like liking yourself and having the confidence to find and attract that special someone. I know I've been guilty of this.

My tactic for the womans and they will love castlevania its to tell her that are characters like this:
(click to show/hide)

most of the time it works and she will want to know more of that characters and then i put all the history of castlevania XD. for girls who read this do not take it wrong i dont say that all the girls are like this but its a start to know about castlevania

Hmm, that's pretty close minded. A girl I know goes on and on to me about her favorite games, and they are Visual Novel Otome games like Haruka, which are clearly marketed toward females, where the main objective is to romance men. While I don't play games like that, I understand the appeal of them and I can appreciate some things about them, like the cool character designs and some of the music.

I groove to this theme from Angelique sometimes. I kinda' dig the easy going and dreamy mood of Angelique, which is a dating sim : )

My girlfriend used to oppose my love for CV. This did not last however because her understanding of the game developed more. She's not really close minded but wondered why i would wait until night or in bed to play these games. I didn't even need to use words; i simply let the game speak for itself. So now she is working her way through SotN all by herself and NO i will not help her figure out how to open BLUE DOORS! So let them understand it at their own pace is my suggestion. Not only will the love unfurl with the game but its funny watching said girl get owned by Slogra and Gaibon 47 times ;D

I love Castlevania, and I was lucky enough to have male friends that don't look down on women and really appreciate it when a woman knows her share of nerdy stuff. Or is it just because I'm in the academe and video games and other nerdy stuff are some of our exhaust vents. Hehehe.

Though, way back in high school, it was a different story.  :'(

that don't look down on women and really appreciate it when a woman knows her share of nerdy stuff.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why that wouldn't be the case. Especially for the older crowd, women just generally didn't take an interest in it. We wanted them to, but it didn't happen. Now it happens and we shun it?

Thinking about the sexual harassment a little more, specifically the 'nudes plz' type: I can see where that may stem from. Once a nerd guy finds a girl who is into these things, they may want to try their luck. Unfortunately nerd guys sometimes jump the gun on these things, and get side tracked with trying to hit it out of the park instead of taking their time with things. Nervousness? Maybe. Inexperience? Certainly.

It is totally unacceptable though, don't get me wrong, but I think thats the source of it. Don't stand for that shit either way. Call it out when you see it. It is NOT acceptable. That goes for other guys too. Put the shame on the aggressor. Let them know it's not welcome behavior. Silence is condoning!

That goes for any harassment really. It wont stop if we all sit idly by. I call that shit out when I see it. Stand up for what's right, and you may just change some minds along the way. I came to these conclusions on my own over time, but I know some people who changed only because they were shown that the behavior wasn't acceptable and it made them rethink things.

Just thought I'd share these

Me myself? I was in a unique situation in High School; although I was open about my "nerdiness" to everybody, I was still grouped in with the "popular" clique. I didn't care that people knew about my interests in Star Wars, Castlevania, etc. and although I wasn't really into extra-curricular activities (sports, etc.) I still hung out with those that were, went to various parties, etc. But I still hung out with the "nerd clique" too.

That's part of it in a lot of cases, but you can't underestimate the importance of this bullshit as a form of posturing for the benefit of the other males in the audience.
But you are right, I think it was the humor site cracked.com who pointed out that a lot of the worst offenders for this sort of thing have had two sources of experience with women - their mothers and porn. So their views of how to actually interact with the opposite sex are rather skewed, to put it mildly.

I'm happily engaged to the mother of my baby and let me just say that CV or any video game has never caused a problem for us. She's not in to every game I play, but that's ok because I'm not in to everything she is like shows and games. It's more important that you love each other and get along we'll. being in a relationship with someone who shares every interest with you could be very boring.

Besides... CV is a 1 player game anyways.. Lol. She makes fun of me for my nerdy games and I make fun of her for her nerdy shows. Haha. It's fun to have differences. Try not to look for someone with prerequisites in mind and jut go with the flow!

Seriously - they do not understand why I play the series. So they ask me what it's about, and I explain it to them. I get so in-depth to the storylines (depending on the canon) that I become to passionate about it and I get a nerdon just speaking about it. And they're like... "You are such a dork..." /rolls eyes

And I'm all

le sigh

You don't just understand...

And it  makes me go /sadface
The same happens with my partner, I get so upset lol
We enjoy playing the games anyway, but sometimes people don't understand why is it your favorite series

Everything comes full circle

Fear not, for the women of gaming exist....and the female enthusiasts of Castlevania, though rarer, will still be that diamond in the rough to seek out.

Guys will give me weird enough looks when they find out how much of a geek I am with my knowledge of gaming, particularly oldschool. I will say it's kind of funny as hell when they ask me about my Castlevania tattoo on my ankle, I explain what it is, and they get that look like they're a mixture of confused, intimidated, clueless, and the slightest bit curious. (more-so if they're a fellow gamer) The facial reactions I've gotten are priceless.

I'll never forget one time in college a guy wandered into our social group of geeks, trying to weasel in by spouting random gamer talk. He found out I was into Castlevania and, trying to be a hotshot, proceeded to try to insist that Richter was not playable in Symphony of the Night. When I corrected him, he asked me something along the lines of "Well, what makes you think you're right?", in a way that implied my knowledge of gaming was inferior because I was a girl. My friend who was sitting behind me proceeded to bust out laughing out loud right at the guy with a "Dude, you're out of your fucking league" connotation to it. I told him to go up to the computer lab and look up "The Castlevania Dungeon" and let me know what he found. He never returned.

It's those days I live for, as a female gamer. =)
