Honestly, the only way I would refuse to buy a CV game would be if it were a blatant novelty cash-in. But then again, I'd probably give it a chance to be fun of its own merit, I suppose. So realistically, there's probably nothing I wouldn't try (short of a forced CV-Metal Gear crossover, heh :P )

CVHD was a deal breaker, but for various reasons... mainly though the blatant copypaste of previous metroidvania stage assets to make new castles. That really pissed me off.

I also really loathed the way this game was just lazily vomited together, but I purchased the game itself, and all the DLC. That'll teach 'em. :( That includes the pyramid level, which was overpriced and just horrible in general.

Although as long as they were copypasting stuff, the CV1 and Getsu Fuuma Den stages were pretty awesome.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

A tough question. I love CV too much to permanently drop it for even the most outlandish element. If a game has an element I don't like (kiddie art ala DOS/POR, a more cinematic dark fantasy feel ala LOS), I'll always give it the benefit of the doubt. And if I don't agree with it, I'll simply look forward to the next installment.

That said, I think I'll drop CV if Konami ceased production of all console/handheld games and turned the franchise into... some social thing geared to casual audiences like Minecraft or The Sims

Minecraft is what you make of it.
I made it Castlevania. :P

Technically I'm still not done.
Because it's up to me to build new parts to the castle, I'm always adding 'new stages'.

There are still many stages to be built, but the outside is pretty much done.  I've still got the Underground Caverns/SkeletonCave/AbadonedMine/Catacombs/anything-else-that-goes-underground left to do, and some of the upper towers are still just towers with no decoration/enemies on the inside, but I'm getting there.  I log on once in a while and build.

Ok ok, sometimes 'once in a while' becomes 'a few hours'.  >.>

I WANT THIS TO BE A THING. Just class it up a little. Like Shiroi suggested, a Tokimeki type dual gender deal. Shiroi, Pfil, let's get a kickstarter going on this.
Totally! Yes, I'd be into something like High School DxD. Definitely ecchi, but with class, and high art music, costumes and architecture. The anime I'm actually watching, and it's blowing my mind!
Castlevania Girls United has just changed its name to Castlevania Ecchi Girls United, hahaha!  :P

@Jorge: Wow! Seriously, that's AMAZING! Congratulations! I'm tempted to say it's a better castle than others in the series.
You know what would make it even more amazing? A dark sky? Like with storm clouds. I don't know if it's possible.
Now I'm tired, eternally walking... forever dying, and never stopping. I feel in sorrow, all I see is white. I’m following a blind way beneath a sad sky.

:o Holy shit, Jorge! Just how many stages/areas are there? And can you actually move around in them?

The number of stages increases periodically.
And yes, you can move around in 'em, kill hordes of enemies.

What's missing right now are secrets, chests, and bosses.

Check the minecraft thread for pictures.

Now, let's get back on topic 'cuz I feel I'm derailing, lolz.

Back on topic, OK! The next game looking like Jorge's castle sure won't be a dealbreaker for me, I'd be totally into that game!

Many things I figured would be dealbreakers I don't mind too much, but can still cause me to roll my eyes (such as QTEs, hint text all the fucking time, and wall-shimmying).

I think at this point, the only real dealbreakers would be

A) a spinoff more ludicrous than Judgment, such as a poker game
B) a turn-based or otherwise non-action RPG
C) another game in the vein of CoD that again somehow learns nothing about level design

Technically that's not poker, but I can see what you mean. That card selection was the boss rush mode for it's time. kinda like Mega Man and ActRaser where you must face the bosses once more before moving on to the final showdown. I for one liked that idea and it was only ever done once in the entire series.

This may be super rare for a person who loves games, but I never really liked boss battles. Only some exceptions I liked, like some Zelda or Mario bosses, but in general, I find them pretty boring and pointless. Many times hard, yes, but boring anyway. I'm more oriented to the exploration, and bosses are the more action oriented parts of every game.

Its because of the arena thing isnt it? In almost all games you need to fight bosses in a locked room, rarely I see a game where you fight a boss with a entire stage where you can walk or even run (RE3 did it right with Nemesis)
