You don't need any of those systems anymore bloodreign. I'm a collector and i own or owned the systems you mentioned. The emulators that are out these days are perfect and in a lot of ways, better than the consoles themselves.

I understand the collecting part, but all of my collection sits packed away while i play the same games on my laptop.

The only systems i use other than my laptop is my ps3 and vita. I sold my turbo duo and got $400 bucks for it. The good news is that i can still play every game on it and i don't have to deal with the 4ft cord the control had. Haha

Unless a friend of mine does what he did with a PS3 a couple years ago (he deemed I needed a PS3, not really, I functioned fine with a PS2, if anything it's mostly a PS1 machine for me. I did find a PS1 game with an invisible options menu and title screen while playing it on a PS3, X-Men COTA. Plays fine on my PS2 though). Knowing this friend, he makes good money, will wait 2-3 years after he gets one, he'll deem I need yet another system (he could get me a PCE for a bit less really), and I'll wind up with one anyway.

I really don't need anymore modern gen consoles, I do need a Game Gear or a TG-16/PCE though. GG's are at this point mostly in need of brand new screen capacitors though.

The screen is washed out AND the sound doesn't work on my Game Gear, which I've had but barely played since it was new. The sound going out is apparently a common but less talked about problem. Unless you're planning to do some serious hardware modding to turn it into a real console, you're better off just getting a Master System or a Master System adapter for your Genesis. Most of the good GG titles were Master System ports anyway.

I have a Master System, don't need another one.  ;D

I know someone who can fix Game Gear problems should I ever need one and a need arises to fix it. Emulations nice and all, and it's helped me amass a collection (1,063 games last count), but I won't rely on something I don't consider accurate over something that is. The only things I still play in emulation are games I don't own, or that are far too expensive to buy in physical format. My collections not packed away, everything is right there accessible to me when I need it, pull off the shelf and play. The only work is hooking the system of choice up.

What games would you recommend? I've had mine for years but don't have many titles for it, only one I've played all the way through is Phantasy Star, which was admittedly great.

But more on the original topic- consoles have really been shooting themselves in the foot by taking away the plug and play convenience which for so long made up for lackluster technology. I guess we'll just see over the next decade if they can continue to stay relevant as the already dated tech becomes increasingly evident to the consumers at large. I suppose it could be like the last few years where a lot of people don't seem aware how much more advanced games can be since big devs and publishers don't bother making games that won't run on the consoles. But it seems like something'll have to give in this equation at some point.

Update: The Next gen Crisis - HDD Space

The PS4 Supports SSD, SSHD, and HDD replaceables, which means you can nab a Seagate Hybrid 2TB for $140...
and to note, Hybrid Drives aka SSHD are Hard Drives with an amount of Solid State in it to damn near match SSD performance....

The Xbone, however doesn't support replaceables for now.... and when every game has to be installed and average at 64GB... 500GB really doesn't seem like that much space.

Personally, I'm gonna nab a couple for my Desktop so I can make it ever faster lol

It was revealed a while ago that the Xbone wouldn't be able to do ANYTHING out of the box because it would be in need of a day-one patch. Now Microsoft has removed the ability to predownload this patch. Which is something consumers might actually want to do to avoid the rush.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/129878-Xbox-One-Offline-Update-Instructions-Pulled-by-Microsoft

So now anyone who buys an Xbone anytime near the launch is gonna have to sit and wait for the servers to open up, which could be days if Sim City and Diablo 3 are any indication. And just think, those were servers for individual games, this is an entire console that if it sells anything like the PS4 will have a million people or more trying to download the patch within a week if not sooner. And there'll likely be a comparable rush on December 25th. It's like "Thanks for spending hundreds of dollars on our invasive gimped crap! Now shut up and get in line and we'll make it work when we feel like it. (Well until the planned obsolescence overheating issues kick in of course.)"

Never was too concerned about ZOMG TEH HD, but eh, any excuse to post these again:

Thanks for the laugh with that Hokuto no Ken meme

They are trying to appeal to a different crowd(Xbox) playstation is showing how far graphics can take u. Just use GT6 for example. 1200 cars that all have gorgeous interiors. That's one of many reasons that make my decision on which system easier.
