While LoS' storyline gradually grew on me these past few years, calling it the best CV had to offer is pushing it. I'll say it: Aria of Sorrow has the most memorable plot Castlevania has ever conceived, hands down. The game's story was literally unlike anything we've ever seen before with a unique twist to the Dracula-Belmont legacy that wasn't cheesy or predictable, while also giving us an even more mystifying backstory that has still yet to be realized, and still has us clamoring for it 10 years later. It modernized the typical Castlevania setting while simultaeneously maintaining that familiar approach and doesn't alienate any of the fans. It gave us a unique cast of characters. And it also gives us a satisfying closure to 1,000 years worth of bloodshed, without feeling empty or dull. And lets face it, fighting Julius was the absolute culmination of that 1,000 years; 1,000 years of Belmont sacrifice has produced what you see before you, the ultimate Vampire Killer. How many video game series can anybody name that has been ongoing since the 80s, has delivered a final chapter that most of the fans are satisfied with (DoS notwithstanding)? Is it flawless? No, but god-damn, IGA really struck gold when he conceived this game, and not even his biggest hater can ever take that away from him.
The only thing that would've made AoS better is if it had been a disc-based console release, and even as it stands it's still the closest we've gotten that arguably can dethrone Symphony. Until LoS2 is released, no other CV game can even touch AoS plot-wise.
