Why not release it on your own website and enjoy the notoriety of being the person who finally leaked it and solved the mystery once and for all? Why hold it hostage? Or why not just sell copies of the ROM on a per-person basis?

Honestly, after reading the post in this link, as much as I love Bloodlines, I can't understand why someone would ask for that much money to release something that, when all's said and done, is hardly worth the price. Especially considering the fact that you can't really even finish the game because of the bugs and lack of collision detection in some parts. I get that you invested a lot in that, but at the same time, doing so for the purpose of basically saying, "Na na na na na, I have this and you don't" until you get a certain amount of money, sucks. It would be one thing if you were asking for enough to cover the costs of hosting a site to download it or something like that, but asking for an exorbitant amount like $1500 is crazy talk imo.

EDIT: It seems like you've been trying to sell this for a few months considering you mention it in your introductory post over at the French CV forum, and that was posted back in September.

I don't think he actually had the rom back then, you can see in the assembler games post I linked to as well as the French one that he was trying to get the $2500 funded with the help of a community. That didn't happen, and he instead decided to pay it himself and recoup some money later.

In the end, he's still going to have paid $1000 for giving us the opportunity to experience what was once trapped behind TARA2000 trademarks. Seeing as paying large amounts is basically how things play out in the prototype scene, it's not really a "I have this and you don't." The tone of his initial posts of this thread appear to have largely been due to a language barrier.

Jayfenwick, it may take a while to hit your $1500 goal so I urge you to please be patient. I'll chip in some at the end of this month after I can get some funds on my paypal account.

It's solved for the 0.5 version. I think there is only the stage 1 in the 0.1

before the 0.1 version auction ended I asked the seller if there were any differences, but he didn't know, so I didn't bid. Man what a waste to spend $1900 if there are no more difference than one stage only..

show me the limited edition GOLD Bloodlines/Vampire Killer cartridge (of which there are only 2 in existence, that we know of), and i'll pay money out the ass for that to be mine (the game even contains a few unique enemy designs that were developed by fans that won a special contest Konami held back in the day). without a doubt the "Holy Grail" of Castlevania rarities

it's very official, like i said Konami held a contest in which fans could submit their designs for some enemy sprites (only in Japan of course), which were included in this special cartridge. so far there are only 2 copies that have been spotted in the wild, that we know of

What would have been smarter would have been to have one of the mods/admins take up a collection to try and get it. One guy coming in and saying he wants money for this doesn't seem terribly legit, but what do I know?

Blah blah capitalism. People use that as an excuse for things that are wildly overpriced despite their apparent value. IMO, the guy who originally owned it was a dick for wanting $2500 for something like that in the first place but whatever. Seems like a lot of money for something most of us would probably play twice then never look at again. I'm not saying i wouldn't like to get my hands on this, but it's not like it's an unreleased stage from Castlevania 4 or something. Most of the time stuff like that was cut for a reason.

I could be wrong, but I don't see a pool of $1,500 being put together soon. And how exactly will it be released? Just for those who paid, or will it become public? I must knooooow, Jayfenwick!

If there were some guarantee I'd get my money back if the goal weren't reached by a certain point, I might think about throwing some money in to get this thing made available.
