so does any1 think we shoulda got a proper Castlevania RPG at one point? sounds preposterous i know, but stranger things have happened (encore of the night, akumajo dracula arcade, judgment, pachislot). theres been some fighting games & action platformers that had experimented with RPG like mario or mega man x for instance. i dunno if traditional turn-based woulda worked.. but how about a more final fantasy-esque active time battle system?

ATB couldve been interesting in a draculas Curse RPG remake. imagine 4 character team would be perfect (trevor sypha Grant alucard) each having their respective abilities & more. i got this visiion in my head of a sprite-based CVIII remake for Sega saturn that was never released outside of Japan, kinda like samurai shodown RPG aesthetically

新説サムライスピリッツ武士道列伝/Samurai Shodown RPG (Sega Saturn) Battle 1

or maybe real time battle system would be better? i dunno. just thought a castlevania rpg wouldve been interesting to see

They would be crazy if they wouldn't at least attempt it at some point. Castlevania would be perfect for an RPG if they pull it off right. Konami did the same thing with Goemon after all. They also teased us a little bit by having Dracula, Alucard, and Simon appear in Oreca Monster Battle.

Personally, I think it would be a pretty good thing.

However, I don't think it should follow the traditional CV sort of way. I think it'd be wiser to recruit other hunters. One of the things I found strange is that, it gives off a there are many hunters and slayers, but the only one that ever shows up is one of the Belmont clan. It's one of the reason I like Dracula's Curse. It gives the lore a bit more than Belmont slays Dracula.

Sypha and Grant brings in the idea that there are other people who's out there that's capable. Alucard, adds a bit of dynamic to the evil side.

And they should put in permadeath for characters. That'd be awesome. Raises the bar of preserving your characters and not a we all survive type of ending that makes it sort of feel like it's not really a treacherous journey after all.

And of course, that'd add more to the game than just "invade this castle!"

Wait, I know Dracula and Alucard are in there, but Simon too? Never heard of this before.
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.

^That's from Goemon for the SNES. This is his appearance from the game I was talking about:

By the way, I just remembered, Simon also appears as a playable character in Goemon Gaiden 2, which is also a RPG.

I've always thought a CV rpg would be fun. Recently a buddy showed me this game called Child of Light. Here's the trailer for it. I think a CV rpg could be a little like this.

That is a good idea.
Konami can even throw in some extra characters from their other series.

Ehhh I'm not fond of the idea. i think Action RPG, something like Metroidvanias is really as far as the RPG should go in CV.

It worked with Mega Man because the franchise gameplay is highly adaptable (much like it's protagonists) and has a constant motif of change and progress. So changing the gameplay works. But for Castlevania?

Let's remember when Sonic became an RPG.
Laura and Gabriel arrive in the deepest cave of the castle and... they find IGA.

Sonic games rely on speed being one of it's primary gameplay. That would clash with RPG, which tends to be more thought out. I don't see how CV would have this conflict.

mainly due to Castlevania's platforming always being one of it's biggest selling points and what people remember most. The tight combination of challenging, deliberate Platforming and combat. You had to pick your battles and your jumps. A full on RPG I feel really looses something. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I just don't feel like it's something that really meshes with what Castlevania is. Something about the concept is just off to me.

Can't it have platforming?

Look at Xenogears. It has quite a bit of platforming in parts... quite a few iirc. Put field enemies that creates battles on collision, and both issues are addressed, no?

People play Castlevania for the gameplay. Very little of it has to do with the story.

RPG's are never played for the gameplay. The story is king there.

I wouldn't play a Castlevania RPG.
