Seeing as we'll being seeing a port and reboot (graphical wise) of resident evil 0 soon, I decided to dig out my own copy on GameCube and start it today (blind mind you) but then I thought... Since we are getting a RE release (lol!) does this mean that the original copies of this game will be worth more now? Same with dragon quest 8. It's getting a 3DS release (I think it's already been done in japan) so does this mean that the value of the original games will now be worth more or will it stay the same? Also... WHERE THE HELL IS OUR RE RELEASE FOR EARTHBOUND?!

I mean for 3DS or a handheld port because I know it was released on gba forever ago but a new updated version would be cool to see too. Also what I meant on ports was since we're getting ports of these games, wouldn't their original copies be worth more now?

In the Japanese market the originals are already worth more for every remake/reboot that was made.
I am not familiar in the other markets, but ideally, the originals will have a boost in their prices.

I think all games in good-near mint condition which are now getting re-released will probably be something of a collector's item within half a decade.

I've conducted an experiment, I bought a copy of Zelda MM Limited Edition for cheap, still sealed in the box.
I'm going to leave it for 5 years and see if anyone has a copy of this on ebay, how much it is going for etc.

I have some older 64, PSX and SNES titles but unfortunately for quite a few of them I've lost the boxes and manuals when moving house, really sucks but what can you do.

With any major Zelda release, you're prettymuch guaranteed it will increase in value over time.  I buy a copy of every new Zelda game and leave it sealed so that someday it will be worth a mortgage payment.  I only wish I had started doing this sooner.

Usually a remake, or re-release of game will drop the value on the originals, it did for a short time with Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (that's when I snuck in and paid cheaper for a copy on the PS2 than I had seen in years), Earthbound dropped for a short bit too, but then went back up. MvC 2 got delisted, it's value on PS2 went right back up. A game like Mizubaku Daibouken/Liquid Kids got re-released on Taito Legends and Memories on PS2, it's value on Saturn did not change at all, but then again, the Saturn port was Japan only to begin with (and arcade perfect as well).

Then again, I'm a collector, I sell nothing, and I do not smile down on resellers who artificially drive up the costs of games to where they don't have to get a real job, and make money off of poor saps on the internet, and price the real collectors out of the market. My passion to see these people walk onto a busy highway into traffic burns brightly.

I get that you're passionate about collecting games, because I am too. However they're not a necessity to live, anything old and vintage is going to cost you no matter what you're buying, and the poor sap should've researched what they were buying.

How do you feel about people who do the same with real estate hording properties, or even worse people in economic boom who just buy real estate and get mortgages which collapse when the economy takes a turn for the worst? or the greedy individuals who try to sell 'new apartments' at the price of housing? This drives up the price of property especially within short range of any cbd despite any economic crash. People that do shit like that piss me off way more than a collector who is trying to sell.

Even after a rerelease there are some people who prefer to play on the original hardware, and people who like to collect. I dont thinl rereleases effect value that much, if at all on the longrun. A bit off topic but I like to own original copies only if its a game I absolutely love, even if I own a digital version. I have the Saturn version of SotN, cost me about $110 plus shipping, most I've ever spent on a game so far. Hell, might sell my saturn soon for the money, but will keep SOTN and Sonic Jam(import). I have my eyes set on Demons Crest now.

Damn man, I think I paid around 45 including shipping for mine back about 3 years now.
I wouldn't sell it, it's still my favourite version of SOTN.

Sounds like you got a steal on it, I think it's been 60-75+shipping for forever, with recent years jumping in price even more. But I honestly haven't looked in a long time.

I'm curious how the Twilight Princess HD release will effect the value of my Gamecube copy of TP. Since the HD remake seems to (thankfully) be based on the Gamecube version with a proper left-handed Link and no reversed world like we saw in the Wii release. I don't own a Wii U but I'd like to get that Twilight Princess amiibo, very spiffy looking.

Bearing in mind back then the Australian dollar was worth more than the US dollar, so it was around 1.15-1.25 as I recall which is closer to $60 USD.
I was actually surprised because years before I just couldn't ever find it on ebay. OR there'd be one seller at a ridiculous price.

Hopefully they'll offer the Wii version (right handed) as an alternate quest or a master quest. One would think they will implement motion controls/ pad as two options. Unless they revamp it into one new gamepad system altogether.

Jeez, man lol, didn't know the price went up so high since then. It's like $98 atm, but damn would loved that $45 price tag.
I prefer it as well, despite the hate it generally gets. Feels like a complete game, even if it was a technically shitty port. Plus, I LOVE the Saturn model 2 gamepad!

But hey, I could always emulate it using the disk, plus a Saturn to usb controller dongle. The wonders of technology

Yeah, its like $98 rn I think. Wish it was more common, though, its got some great additions and more people should be able to easily play it. I know Iga dismissed this version, but imo and other who've played its opinion, it is better than the PSP remix in DXC.

Kanami should just release the Saturn version with the graphical and slowdown issues fixed, option of which version of Maria to play as, and choice of Japanese, English original or English redone VO. That's quite a package, but release that on steam and consoles and I think they'd have a good Bloodstained competitor/companion.

Back on topic, lol, I don't think TPHD will bring down the value of the GC or Wii versions in the long run. There might be a dip down for a little bit, but hardcore collectors and fans will definitely want to seek out all three, even with a "definitive edition" out.
