I tend to avoid Greatest Hits, or Best or Books versions if I can. That trend started with Gradus Gaiden for me, in the end, the original print won out over the Books version. Sometimes the Greatest Hits versions can be bugfixes (in the case of Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the PS1, the original print I have is filled with bugs that can freeze a game to a grinding halt). I cases like KoF O2 Unlimited Match Tougeki Version (aka Bugfixed Version), though not technically a Greatest Hits line, goes for more than the original version (regular old 02 Unlimited Match with it's infinite combos), $150+ for the bugfixed one, around $100+ for the original version.

Most collectors avoid the 2nd pressing, etc. and that is what drives the first pressing's price up.
If you got lucky, there are some 1st pressings but have slightly damaged boxes that sell for a lower price. I got CotM and HoD cheap that way, but it was around 10 years ago....

For the Sega Saturn, it's a different beast entirely. It is know US Saturn games have rapidly gone up in value, but now it seems even most imports have gone up too. It is one system that has become really hard to collect for, original, or Satakore, or any other greatest hits version.

I lost a lot of gaming boxes and manuals which were in mint condition. At least the games are with me but damn that was sad. Especially for Gba and n64

For wish list I want to get :

The first Trial version of Rosenkreuzstilette (4 main stages available)

The European version of Castlevania Chronicles (I'll doubt for a while since the game speed is around 50fps for European versions, and it annoyed me a LOT during gameplay) and the trial version of the game (as an unused graphic's hint)

A working beta copy of Mega Man X5 (The bloody beta v3 as shown in some fan site, with more stages like jungle available but HUD was in beta stat; Beta v2 had been dumped last year)

The US beta version of Castlevania Bloodlines (NOT the European beta version which had been dumped long time ago)

Yeah Shiroi, it does. But at least I have the cartridges to those games. What's worse is I had lost some SNES games (box manual and cart) as well as a few books
from when I was 9, so much sentimental value to those items, now gone forever  :(

Well, my dad threw away the number 1 and early issues of several marvel comic books when he was a kid. He didn't know that those things would be really pricey collectors items now. They were really cheap then.

My heart cried a little bit reading that. I'm so glad my folks let me horde comics and collectibles when I was younger. (and never lost any along the way.)

I do also have a bunch of NES, PS2, GCN, Sega Saturn games and PSX games that I believe I do indeed have covers and so forth for. I'm very thankful for this.

I just bought two copies of DMC4 Special Edition standard version for PS4. None of the fruits but the game is the disc version which has both english and japanese voices and subtitles. Going to do an experiment and leave them in the factory seal, I believe they will be hard to come by in a few years.

Went to the flea market/swap meet with great joy, left hanging my head down and empty handed, spent no  money.

Why you may ask? Let me show you.

Knights of the Round SNES, hell yes, price tag, $89, hell no!

Chrono Trigger, hell yes, price tag, $129, fuck no!

Earthbound, ok overrated, but wow, price tag, $499....errrr fuck no way, not a chance I would spend that much!

All loose carts, enough of heartbreak for me to not even look for Gameboy, NES, or other SNES stuff I wanted. The lady's Genesis stock is the same sports games, and Pitfall (which I would like to get), but I left depressed enough to not even buy it. In KotR, I can get the Japanese version for half that price, and already have it on Capcom Classics Collection 2 on PS2, the arcade version.

-Dragon Fighter NES
-Valis games
-Vice: Project Doom NES
-Splatterhouse games
-King of Demons SNES
-Demons Crest
-Dracula X
-CVLegends
-Ninja Gaiden 3 NES
-Run Saber SNES

After getting back into retro collecting I noticed just how ridiculous things have been getting lately, especially with the rare NES and generally good 16bit games.

Whoa...didn't know Vice: Project Doom sold for so much. I picked up a loose copy of this from a local retro store for pretty cheap a few years back.

I have both King of Demons and Ninja Gaiden III...both are pretty underwhelming. Especially King of Demons, since it looked so cool. Ninja Gaiden III just isn't as fun as the first two, even more so since they scrapped unlimited continues.

Dracula X would be nice, just to add to the CV collection, though. The price for a boxed copy doesn't justify it, but it would be nice to have for completion's sake. The Super Famicom version is cheaper and has cooler cover art, so that one could be a potential purchase down the road.

Wish I had Megaman X3 for the SNES. The PS1 version just isn't the same, and it sucks that this is the version they put on that Collection compilation years back. Can't get over what they did to the music on that one.

Power Blade 2 was another one that sounded interesting. Even though from the sound of it, it wasn't as good as the first one, but it would still be nice to have. But if it's inferior AND more expensive, then what's the point?
