Dreamcast 2: A major trolling job?

I think so. The Sega "Project Dream" was announced by these guys who started a change.org petition to make a Dreamcast 2. Now, there was a webpage created with a countdown to Sega's "announcement".

Apparently it's to be a PC console hybrid... Like a steam machine? And there's nothing on Sega's official site linking to this, and nothing taking about the " Project Dream" countdown.

Apparently the guy behind the Dreamcast 2 idea spoke with Sega of Japan, who will bring the idea to higher ups for discussion, and this is to coincide with Sega's new arcadr hardware this coming new year.

OK, first off, does anyone know the cost of R&D, advertising, manufacturing, software, EVERYTHING involved with releasing a console? Sega doesn't have the money to do this, and it would be horrible idea for Sega. Even if its a steam machine from Sega, they wouldn't do it. Besides that, like I said, Sega's officially not involved with any of this, and its coming a little bit after a change.ord petition caught steam online. Who's to say no trolls would jump on this opportunity to massively Troll fans?

Besides that, info is really confusing. The best article I could find was the cinemablend one:

I'm still mad that the Sega Spectrum (whatever it was) never actually got announced at E3 as planned.

Sega's gone bro. We're never seeing a Sega console again-- just years and years of increasingly horrible Sanic da Hedge-smog gaems.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Pretty much. Some people still have the hope that it'll happen, but they don't understand the console business. The only Sega related hardware now are those AtGames handhelds/consoles for SMS, GG and Genesis games.

After reading more, it looks like the guy behind this wants to launch a kickstarter for a console style PC, just licensed by Sega for the Sega logo and Dreamcast name................... Is a PC with the Sega logo on it really special? Honestly, you'd just be pretending to play on a new system, when you're just playing PC games. Seems so pointless to me. Sure, their goal is an affordable gaming PC console, but why not just make that? I guess the Sega name would be good for sales.

Maybe when I build my console form factor gaming PC in the spring I'll name it Dreamcast 2 and watch it smoke every single console out there, including what this guy is trying to build.

Dreamcast gonna finally be on top yo

I don't mind Xbox (My Xbox One quickly supplanted my PS4 as my main system), but it'd be nice to see Sega get back in the game.

Sega games had a sort of campy edginess back in the day that neither Sony or Nintendo was able to crack. I miss that feel. Play Deep Fear and you'll see what I mean. It's like a version of Resident Evil that doesn't take itself seriously at all, venturing into unintentional parody territory.

As someone who prefers the OG Xbox to the competition and owns an Xbone, I wouldn't mind if Sega replaced MS. MS kinda took Sega's place, so yeah.

This would be stretching it too, but even if they made a sort of alternative system, decently powerful arcade hardware with ports of their current arcade games, and download SMS, Genesis, Saturn, GG, and Dreamcast games, I'd fuckin dig that.... Too good to be true tho

The dreamcast had the best range of arcade games which were the absolute closest to their arcade counterparts, 3rd Strike and MVC2 looking directly at you both.

Well SEGA is still around but in terms of console production, then yes, I can agree with the above. Although I do believe that part of the reason why they stopped making consoles is that after so many releases, is that they still haven't been able to implement certain features that other consoles had. I can name one right off the bat: Transparencies. From the Genesis to the SEGA Saturn (for some unknown reason) SEGA's consoles weren't able to do transparencies. Granted they could if the game itself had a specialized graphics chip (cartage) or program (CD) But until the Dreamcast, transparency effects seemed out of reach. This is noticeable in the SEGA Saturn game NotM. Yet systems like the SNES could handle such effects so why not SEGA CD? the 32X? or SEGA Saturn?  :-\

Too bad Alienware beat them to it.

And? They did it twice.

Seriously, who saw that coming from ALIENWARE of all manufacturers? Finally, store bought gaming PCs that aren't overpriced and are actually pretty damn good at what they do! AND THEY ARE ALIENWARE, a brand not known for ANY OF THOSE THINGS.

I've been looking at the X51 and it's wicked badass! Has everything I need: decent power, optical drive, and the badass case is an extra. I know it's not the most powerful thing, I know it's a bit more mula, but it fits the bill for me, since I've tried computer building in a class once and sucked at it. The Alpha I'm not as interested in, but it's a great piece of tech.

I just wish Alienware's laptops and more powerful desktops weren't so much. You're paying for the amazing looking and well build cases pretty much, because the power doesn't reflect their prices. The Area 51 is probably the best looking desktop I've ever seen, and their laptops have the best keyboards I've seen on a laptop (The MSI Titan I've never used in person, but DAMN That thing is crazy)

I thought Alienware was bought out by another company. It's nice to know that things are still the same with them.
