I can certainly agree with the combo trimming, X. Perhaps in regard to whip control, it should be more like LoI than LoS. And I certainly wouldn't want to ramp up enemy placement "just because". Keep the layouts as close to the LoD levels as possible, but with a more navigational flair.

...so many "Lo"s to talk about... ;P

Yeah please no upgrading and buying combos, 3-5 hits maximum with cancellable backdash/ jump/ subweapon is all that's needed.

In fact, I would just love to see From Software make a Castlevania game because I think it would come really close to what the first game was, just modernized.

My good sir, i 200.00% agree on this idea of my favorite VG company make a Castlevania game! They would rock making the game! i mean have you seen Castle Cainhurst in Bloodborne? It shouted to me: ¨Hey, I'm a Castlevania inspired area!¨
Standing here, I realize
You were just like me, trying to make history.
But who's to judge the right from wrong?
When our guard is down, I think we'll both agree
That violence breeds violence,
But in the end it has to be this way.

The two games I'd love a remake of are Legends and Simons Quest. I love them both (despite agrivating flaws in legends), but here's why they both deserve a remake:

Legends:
Fan ficy plot, taken out of cannon as it doesn't fit with the plot of CV3. Update it to fit into Iga's timeline, refine the gameplay a bit, make better enemy placement and fix up the level design. Plus, the plot is barely there in the game, meaning you'd have to read about the game elsewhere to find out why Sonia is after Drac and her relationship with Alucard (which would most likely have to change, unless it is set after CV3 as a gaiden). It could make for a great story driven action game, prefer revolt still in 2D. Plus, they need to update the useable of the souls weapons to make them more appropriate to more situations, cause it's one of the feature I love in Legends and it wasn't implemented too well. Also, make Burning mode its own separate button lol

CV2:
I love CV2, but imagine a huge 3D open world with that horror setting? If it stuck true to the source, it'd be extremely unique and amazing! Like you mentioned, make it like the Witcher. So much potential there. Plus, we never got Sinon in a 3D game (Judgement doesn't count cus of how TERRIBLEY they neutered him)

That Simon redesign from Chronicles is not all that good either. He should have been left alone...  :'(

How about a decent 3D castlevania game where the edges of the platforms don't flash white while the game stops and the camera doesn't zoom in on it to tell the player they're a fucking retard? That would be great for all of us.

Nah, let Konami just churn out another bland game with the brand name on it... complete with more cutscene interruptions and QTEs :P

Oh and let's forgoe the random chicken lying around the castle.  Who needs those when you've got green healing fountains.

Konami went downhill since they labelled their "Lords of Shadow" title Castlevania.
LOS1 was a damn good game, it just wasn't CV.

I would like to see a remake of CV64/ LOD with the extra characters they were initially going to include as well as using the whip to swing like in SCVIV. Those games are really worthy of remakes (not just remasters).

Have to agree, LOS feels like the CV name was tagged on just to get some extra sales, and it worked. It rarely felt like a CV game, and took a lot of the Lord of the Rings style fantasy over the straight up gothic dark fantasy CV always went for.

People lately have compared the 64 games to the Dark Souls series, and I can see it: "screw you!!" type difficulty and situations, and a setting in the olden times fighting monsters. Haven't played a Souls game, but Lords of the Fallen is like a poor man's Souls game(not to say it isn't really good, I recommend it).

The Souls and LotF route would be a good idea for a remake of the 64 games. They'd have to change up the level design a lot to accommodate for newer combat. I have to say, I do think the 64 games work perfectly with their control and combat: The look before you leap style is everywhere in them, and the weapons you have feel more like tools you need to utilize at appropriate times to survive, very reminiscent of the NES trilogy. A remake with new gameplay would still equal a lot of play time, with the four characters, and maybe even add in Coller. There are those HD texture packs for the 64 games, and they look fucking awesome, and give me the idea that an HD remaster with all four characters, all the levels from both games (such as the forest of Silence from the original game), and if it would ever possibly happen.... PLEASE ADD COLLER!!! Plus the hook swing and Carmilla liek in the beta footage  ;)

Gotta say I've enjoyed the discussion about remaking CV64:LoD, and I'd admit that a Dark Souls vibe certainly could be a better fit than the LoS style.

Now, here's another thought that might be semi-controversial...

Castlevania: Order of Shadows.

Here's a crummy game from when people were still trying to get a handle on making smooth smartphone action games...and in this case failed. But considering how far Android/IOS development has come since then, why not pick it up and do it right this time? Just because a title starts out as a blemish doesn't mean it has to stay there. (Final Fantasy XIV comes to mind...although that's a bit unfair because it's an MMO.)

Or heck...even recreate the OoS levels in a CV ROM editor to give us a "new" CV game that way! ;)

I dunno about the open-world aspect anymore, too much padding nowadays, I guess we could go for a Darksiders 2-esque deal

That's an understatement lol. That's the main problem with open world games, and it exists becaus the majority of gamers want a long game, and it doesn't matter how much the quality might suffer as long as there's more to do. The only time people noticed and disliked this was in Mad Max. Game length is taken a bit too seriously now I think. Isn't a shorter but more polished game with a lot of replay value better than one that's a chore to play and is so long you probably won't even beat it?

I don't wanna be "that guy" but I seriously hope Undertale sets a higher standard for video games in the near future.
It's seriously THAT good, everyone should play it.

The thing about Undertale is that it needs to be experienced with zero expectations or prior knowledge for the best results, which is pretty hard nowadays. I can safely say that this is one of the games that are hit the hardest by spoilers.
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.
