Zombies... they never stay dead.  No matter how many times you try and kill them, they just keep coming.
With that, is Metal Gear officially a franchise zombie now, or has it been like that for a while?

There were minor things like zombies in MGS4 and V, but they were very miniscule and more akin to people going ape-shit from their nanomachines than actual zombies.

...

...

...Oh

OHHHHH I GET IT WHEN PEOPLE SAY METAL GEAR IS DEAD NOW. ZOMBIES. That joke was intentional, right?

Yeah, it was a jab at how Konami won't let the Metal Gear franchise die (because money) and the fact that there's many games with zombies coming out as you pointed out.

Well, this year, we got (and upcoming):
-Metal Gear: Survive
-Resident Evil 7 (probably zombies?)
-Dead Rising 4
-Dead Rising Remastered Collection
-Dead Island 2 (supposedly this year?)
-Days Gone
-The Walking Dead: Season Three

...soooo I'd say that zombies are still going strong, I guess. How much was there in 2015?

Somehow my post got messed up. State of Decay 2 was supposed to be on that list but somehow wound up at the bottom of the post. Fixed it now. Also pointing out that yeah, we're getting a lot of zombie games.

that Konami has said they will not interfere with the release of Lecarde Chronicles 2 makes me feel that they do care about the CV fan base after all. And whether or not they plan to make another 2dvania themselves, they are choosing to let the fans have one by not cancelling LC2.

I dunno, most videogame developers dont really care about fan games. Even Capcom at it's worst still officially endorsed and technically published, a fan game.

It's really only Nintendo that are assholes with their Ip and protect them harder than Disney even. So Konami allowing a fangame to exist doesnt really mean anything. To most devs, a fangame means continued interest in them and their games, any publicity is good publicity as they say.

Has Nintendo not heard of Super Mario Crossover? I'm surprised a C&D hasn't hit the developers yet.

Crossover fan games would be harder to take down on account that they feature other companies IPs. If Nintendo wanted to shut down something like Super Mario Crossover, they'd have to get Konami, Capcom, etc. to all file C&D against it.
