I guess they want HDTV to be the norm, just as DVDs are the norm & VHS is practically nonexistant nowadays.

Yeeeap, I'd say at least another 10 years before everyone has hi-def TVs.

I really don't think you need widescreen to see your games, for the record.  The manual says you just need a prog scan TV and the component cables.

So many people were making the argument that Sony wouldn't be like Nintendo in changing their portable system...
...well, to hell with that one...

I understand how you feel, but why not research these things before just stumbling out and buying them?

Knowing how sony boxes their products it should have said something about not being able to display PSP games on the back of the composite cable box...I'll have to check it next time I go to Fry's.  If they don't state that it can't play games(I know they did in the press release, but it should be on the box) that's real shoddy of them.

Well, Sony HAs come out with a huge line of HD/progressive Scan tvs. If you go to the Sony Style store, that's what pretty much every tv in the place is. They know what they're doing.  >:(

You don't need a widescreen TV in order to play the PSP Slim.

Only progressive scan.

The fact that they're slightly expensive, at least if you want a good one.

Oh come on guys. If you think this is all an elaborate conspiracy to get people to buy HD tv's then you must be off your meds. Seriously now, you really think PSP game projecion is going to be a huge drawcard for HD televisions?

Research, research, research! I can't emphasize this enough before making a purchase. I knew before I bought my PSP Slim that it would require a component cable to play the games on a TV that uses component cable ports (progressive scan). I'm not upset about it at all. Well, of course, that's partially because I own a TV with such capabilities. Still, it makes sense, as the PSP has a widescreen, progressive scan display. To me, it just clicked in my mind that it would require the same such parameters to display (and play games) on a larger screen. But that's just me. ;)

That being said, I hope everyone who bought a PSP Slim strictly for recording or playing games on a larger screen (and didn't know it required a component cable port equipped TV for such activities) can get their money back or find a better solution to the problem. Good luck! :)

Gamers are willing to spend their money on all kinds of extra bullshit just so they can play their games. Sony knows this. I'm not saying they directly said, "Hey, lets make it so that they HAVE to have one of our tvs to play the PSP" but don't you think it's interesting that the only format of tv you can play that PSP on is a huge line of tvs that Sony just rolled out? Electronics companies have been doing this kind of thing for years, you just never took the time to notice.
