I want a psp for the Dracula X Chronicles and FFT, but it is definately not worth the price imo. I'll just wait for a huge price drop or a really cheap used one.

Yes, electronic companies do this shit all the time. You could argue Sony did it with the PS3, forcing Blu-Ray onto it not only to make it the established format but also to ship more HDTVs.

But the PSP? I don't think anyone in their right mind would use it to justify a $3000+ purchase. You'd have to be a nutjob wearing a tinfoil hat to believe that.

Just because it uses component doesn't suggest it needs a progressive-capable display. My old set had component inputs but couldn't do progressive. Now if it actually says on the box that it needs progressive, then that's another story...

I have component video inputs on my A/V receiver, but not on my TV. Is it possible to run Component into a receiver and simply output via coaxial or Composite from there?

Also, I have no idea whether this receiver supports progressive scan.

My TV supports component cables but doesn't support progressive scan. I'm sure there's plenty of other TVs out there that are the same way.

You could run an image through component cables and convert it to composite, but not if that image is transmitted in progressive scan.  Composite cables cannot transmit a progressive scan signal as far as I know.  So no, unfortunately that will not work.

Still, that's fucked up. Sony claimed TV output. People shouldn't have to hack their PSPs to do what it's already advertised to do.

Yeah I was under the impression that it was just a real issue with the game output but now that this is out I'm not 100% sure.  Lets see what sony does now that this is out.

There has to be some kind of reason they only allowed component cables at first(don't say they want you to buy HDTVs, that is not true at all.)

     Lol @ nutjobs with tinfoil hats! If they did it with the PS3's I wouldn't be surprised if they tied in the PSP too. It may not make someone outright BUY one of their tvs but it might inch them closer towards purchase.

 Sony's gotten to be a really scummy company like that.
