Looks like no new footage tonight.

Also, Slogra's appearance didn't change for LoS. He still looks the same from SCIV.

... Is it just me or are some of you being ridiculously over-critical? O_o

No game is perfect.  No game is going to have absolutely everything you think it should have.  There has never been a game that couldn't have been polished better.

It boils down to this.  If you enjoyed playing the game, experiencing the game, then it was a good game for you.  If you didn't, then it wasn't.  And since none of us have played through LoS, none of us are qualified to make any concrete judgment calls upon the game.  Have we heard every track in LoS? No?  Then stop bitching about the music until you can hear the soundtrack in its entirety.  Have we seen all the stages and enemies? No?  Then stop bitching about the look.

At the very least, you could all show a little appreciation for the obvious work that has been put into the making of this game.  The music is good and the graphics are beautiful and what's more, I was able to easily spot the architectural references made in the game, showing that they went out of their way to give this game authenticity.  And finally, they've made it non-canonical AND included many references to the rest of the series in order to specifically please the hardcore Castlevania fans.

For people who are only looking at a trailer and small clips of gameplay that are supposed to appeal to the masses and not just hardcore fans, you sure are bitching a lot.  It's like listening to the Zelda, Final Fantasy, or Sonic fans; I don't those of you that are nit-picking would be pleased by anything.  You'd STILL find something to bitch about.

Well no, I obviously didn't know this, or else I wouldn't be spreading my unfounded speculations across the forum. ;D Well then, what did he look like?

You will find Slogra here

Good God --I've been away from the Dungeon for far too long!  This place has livened up quite a bit.

I need to give Mr. Cox credit for engaging the fanbase here in this forum.  When I left the Dungeon, we seemed divided by these notions "Rebirth?"  "IGA -GONE?" "WTF is Mercury Stream?" "This doesn't look like Castlevania! WTF?"  Anyway --Lords of Shadow seems to have come along quite nicely while I was gone --all those recent pics are drop dead gorgeous.  The Castlevania trademark for fine detail is absolutely NAILED --and I daresay sets a much higher standard.

I pray the game plays as good as it looks --and that seems quite promising.  Mr. Cox --your team has nearly won this doubter over.

I'm actually glad that they didn't show new gameplay.  They don't need convince me any further, two is enough.  Although I will wait for the Jason Isaac trailer to surface after TGS.  I am excited for the game.

@ Gaawa-chan

I agree with most of the things you said. Except I think it's ok to bitch a little. It's part of being a video game nerd, y'know.  ;D We worry about little things, and we like to highlight even minor "shortcomings". Cause deep down we DO expect the "perfect game", even though it's not gonna happen, like, ever.

The music so far is a HUGE departure from what we've come to expect from the franchise. After 20+ years of impossibly catchy and memorable Castlevania music, Lords of Shadow comes as a big shock to me. And no - we haven't heard every track in the game. I do however believe we've heard enough to understand that we're not getting Yamane-style catchiness, and that is enough to upset some people.

So that's me bitching a little. The rest of the game looks spectacular so far.

Yamane is the undisputed GODDESS of Castlevania music --she gets it.  I love her work --and quite frankly, she's half the reason why the PS2 Castlevanias were even playable.  With that said, the new vibe we're hearing in LOS comes across much more atmospheric --and that's not necessarily a bad thing.  Castlevania 4's music went into some atmospheric territory --and quite nicely I might add...

Yeah, and this is exactly what I'm hoping for - an atmospheric soundtrack that really grows on you. Though I still found the music in CV4 to be memorable rather quickly. There are distinct melodies. I hope there are some in LoS too. If not I can definitely live with it, as long as it fits the game (which I'm sure it will). I'm going in with an open mind this time.

The thing about SCV4's soundtrack was that it was a pretty good mixture of both atmospheric, mood setting pieces and other heavy melody driven pieces. A lot of my favorite movies(I bring up movies because LoS's OST is being compared to movie scores) do both as well. Not saying LoS won't, but so far, I haven't heard anything with the footage we've see(and that's not including the trailers). Though who knows, perhaps there ARE some more faster, intense battle theme-type tracks you hear during the game itself, but so far, like the others have said, nothing really stands out. At least not to me.

Of course, that's just one gripe. I think everything else looks great. I'm hoping to see more of the "classic CV" monsters, as well. Remember, 45 different monsters. Hope that means medusa heads and such.

I just don't get the music complaints. It's well structured, well composed, overall fun to listen to, and gets the job done. I mean, just listening to the music I can clearly tell the composer knows what he's doing. I can understand the "it's not the same" but I can't really seem to see why people are saying it's bad  :-\
It just isn't. You may not like it, but it's not bad music.

Sure it's not Yamane, but that doesn't bother me. Castlevania was good before Yamane, and it'll be good afterward. It's something new.

EDIT: Thernz, I never said the trailer song was bad. I love it. If anything I thought OoE's trailer was poorly constructed. I was saying it's too quick a judgment to judge the rest of the soundtrack by the trailer, and frankly in all those gameplay videos you can barely hear the music. What I could hear of the clock tower, though, since the beginning came through well, was definitely not meandering. It's as meandering as the Waterfall Theme was, but you probably like that.

The music isn't terrible, but I was hoping for something more memorable. Something I could look forward to humming or seeing remixes of by fans, you know?

I'm probably shooting the soundtrack in the foot too early though, so I'll wait and see.

So far, I'm liking the music. I've always been somewhat indifferent to orchestral stuff in video games (save the occasional tracks that really catch my ear), but I really do like what I've heard so far. It seems pretty catchy to me, actually.

I won't deny that I miss the instant gratification that CV music usually has, though. The quality of the songs throughout the series has been unbelievably high...it was nice to be spoiled. But the orchestral music in this game seems like a pretty logical choice, so I'm not surprised. It's enjoyable for me, and it has some crazy expectations to live up to, so I can definitely live with it.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.
