I remember an interview from maybe like early '09 of David Cox saying that it takes place within a "bubble" of the main continuity.

With our combined forces, it is indeed possible to POP that bubble & have it rain upon the CV. Which may or may not happen. Some of you don't like to get your hands dirty. I already found thernz' hand in the cookie jar. Despite this David is also on record saying that he "doesn't doubt fans will try to fit it in the timeline anyway," despite it being a complete stand-alone game.

JpCVfan: Mr Cox.. this is a sensitive question, but here it is… will you include/mention/refer to/ Alucard in the game?…

CastlevaniaLOS: No

Moin_Syyed: do you guys see gabriels story as a series,or a stand alone tale in a potential next gen castlevania franchise as a whole?

CastlevaniaLOS: It's not a standalone tale...

>its not a stand alone tale
Uh oh. I guess we can expect a sequel in this timeline or this game really does fit somewhere in the main canon.

That quote conflicts with what he said here:

To be perfectly honest, we haven't really looked past this game for sequels or whatever. We just looked at this and just said, "We want to tell this story within our Castlevania world." If we do another one, I don't know. That's a decision higher up the food chain.

I think its already impossible for this to be in the actual canon but it might tie in to it somehow, some kind off alternate universe deal perhaps.

Maybe LoS will turn out to be a "what if" game, much like how the Zelda series is split in two separate timelines because of a certain event. Like, dunno... preferably something to do with Mathias Cronqvist. The name "Cronqvist" has already been mentioned somewhere, and LoS takes place just before Lament of Nonsense.. eh.. Innocence, am I right?

Something I though was kind of funny:

Quote
"It executes all its ideas with surgical precision, wrapping them up in a presentation so polished - yet so tastefully understated - it could easily have been crafted by Kojima himself," it says.

This sounds great, and Kojima has made some great games, but master of understatement he is definitely not. Thought that was kind of a weird thing to say.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

G4 has given the game a 4/5: http://g4tv.com/games/xbox-360/62175/Castlevania-Lords-of-Shadow/review/

It's funny that they complain how it doesn't have enough "castles" for half the game. Bravo, I say. Castlevania is about the LAND around the castle/s as much as it is about the castles. Thank you, Mercury Steam and Dave Cox, for noticing this. (Though, I am wary of the Lord of the Rings influence reviewers note). I couldn't completely tell from this review if some of what the reviewers thought were shortcomings were from the reduction of Metroidvania in the title. Ironic that all the reviews are coming for the XBOX360 version. I wonder what that says about the popularity of PS3? (which I'd get the game for) Still, this game has a lot going for it. I'm getting more and more tempted toward an sooner rather than later purchase.

As for this game suddenly setting up sequels from the sound of it, I'm not sure it should. I liked the idea of a stand-alone. The [excellent but under-appreciated] new 3D Bionic Commando left a lot of threads dangling for a sequel that has not (and is unlikely) to happen. I like a game to get its story done in one sitting, and then build from there.

That's was surprising, didn't think Xplay would give it a great score.

Never liked G4's reviews either, they're not as terrible as IGN but they're up there.

Eh, I would say Castlevania can swing in both ways. It can be about the castle itself, or the countryside around it as well as the castle. A lot of Castlevania games strictly take place in the castle, classic and newer ones.
