I am not amused. It came out exactly how I figured. Taking the core feeling and presentation of Castlevania, and throwing them all out the window. It really just is a non Castlevania game with the Castlevania title simply slapped on to it.

That said, on its own, it looks to be a decent game, with good gameplay and graphics. It simply does not have the soul of Castlevania.

I don't mind if this game begins a new timeline as long as the current one remains separate and is continued.

Looks absolutely fabulous. Holy crap!

I do hope they bring Michiru Yamane back to do the soundtrack.

I wonder if this will end up like how batman ended up with Nolan.

First you will have a reboot with a new villain then the next game will be about Dracula.

I hope Yamane doesn't leave the series too.

Cool? Yes. Castlevania? Aside from the whip and some cathedrals, not really. I'm not too sure what to think yet, so I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

Why Ogres, though? They're stupid and bland-looking creatures, and yet everyone puts one in their games. Even Resident Evil. Why? Do people still have that much of a hard-on for Lord of the Rings or something?

hmm, it seems like more of an epic theme than the usual castlevanias. well, they did say they were taking a different slant.
...i guess, as long as they have a castle, its castlevania...lol.

Ogres immediately demand a sense of fear and intensity due to their size and ferocity.

But I agree aside of the Wolf and an Owl, none of these bosses feel like they belong in CV.

Anyone else feel the aesthetic has more in common with Shadow of the Colossus and Ico than Castlevania?

...I like that the project is ambitious, but it needs a sprinkling of some more Castlevania-isms (music/enemies/areas), or it does feel like a random fantasy game shoe-horned into the CV franchise. (Then again, this is seemingly doing a lot of gameplay elements I wanted to see with the whip that IGA wouldn't have ever done; now I just need to see some serious PLATFORMING).

...The voice acting doesn't fit Castlevania in my opinion (what is this, Highlander?), and the story seems a lame mixture of Lament of Innocence, Shadow of the Colossus, and Zelda: Twilight Princess. However, if it ends up feeling like a Castlevania game when you play it, and its engrossing, I'll be on board. I'm cautiously excited (more cautious than I was after Wii's Metroid: Other M trailer, which looked more on the mark for its series overall).

Um, what about the giant-scaled monster with stone pieces attached to it? The riding of beasts and grappling on giants? And the whole Gaelic-style art motif seen in some of the archetecture and the "mask" itself???

The voice acting is beautiful; best I've ever heard for the series.

Giants like that existed in the IGA series.
Mostly HoD but they never came to 3d.

I assume these are the bosses that are in there

Balore as the ogre
Talos as that icy giant rock emblem guy
I think I see a Were-sabretooth

This new Castlevania trailer is pretty much like most of the IGAvanias' trailers, starting with character voiceovers saying random plot elements and then the gameplay kicking in. The game's logo, sans the new triangled features, is exactly like the Castlevania logos from the IGA's era. So the whole affair is, at the very least, less derivative than Castlevania Judgment, which turned to be IGA's judgment as well.

Therefore, there's a way this game could fit very well within the current canon, as the origin story of a certain cracked-mask-wearing female we already know from past games. There's no need to scrap all IGA's work with the timeline.

Ok then I shoot you these:

- Where's the overblown bloom lighting??

- Where's the minimalistic level and sound design?

- Where's the focus on emptiness and loneliness?

- Where's the ambiguity to the forms of the creatures, they look pretty well developed to me.

All of the above are why LoS doesn't feel like those games to me. As cool as the art is here it pales into comparison to what ICO team is capable of.

Those games had subtlety written all over, and this is as flashy as any other action game out there.
