They said something along the lines of "forget what you know about Castlevania" and this could mean many things including revamped gameplay. Also, the presence of a cracked mask with a female owner in Castlevania is as old as Simon's Quest, so even if she's not the lady we're thinking about, the cracked mask metaphor is definitely a nod to Castlevania.

Yeah, the mask made me think of Carmilla. And that made me thing of SQ, along with all the other clues.

The combat gameplay anyway looks akin to the PS2 CV titles.

Or DMC, GoW for that matter.

That whip cyclone is SICK

In addition, Metal Gear Solid developer Kojima Productions was revealed to be assisting Mercury Steam with the game. "My role is to support them," said Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima. "I'm going to help them to give birth to this Castlevania."

"In the very near future we'll show you more and more," he added.-From Shacknews.com

So more news coming soon and I think its safe to say that mercurystream along with kojima has been given the throne of Castlevania.

I am very impressed with the trailer, the music, graphics and the voice acting. That said, I am a bit worried about the whole "new direction/new timeline" thing...but as long as it has something to do with Dracula and/or the castle, I'm OK with it. If they want to try a different direction thas fine, but they still must somehow tie it into the overall CV mythology if it's gonna have a CV title to it.

Other than that, I really like what I see so far.

I would just like to add: I don't see a floating keep on that castle.

On the same token there isn't a clear view of the back of the Castle so there still might be one.

If they are taking this into a different direction my guess is that this takes place around the same time of LoI and show that not only Mathias could become a vampire or a Dark Lord for that matter but also someone else. Just an idea though....

that scene of the castle in foggy night is the one image of the game that really screams "Castlevania!"

I love how everyone is ignorantly assuming that Iga is completely out of the picture just because one game irrelevant to the main Castlevania timeline and series was announced. There's still the Alucard PS3/360 game in production that everyone seems to have forgotten about.

There's nothing to indicate this will replace the main series, without looking at it through anti-IGA rose-tinted glasses.

If by some chance it ends up in the main timeline, my guess would have to be somewhere between Lament and CVIII, with a Belmont or some unrelated figure fighting vampires equally unrelated to Dracula.
-----------
If there's anything that would make me hate the classic Castlevania games, it most certainly isn't the games themselves; but rather, that ignorant fraction of their fanbase.

Well we don't know that that Alucard game is still in development.

But we also don't know what's going on with IGA and team right now. Perhaps they couldn't make it to E3 BECAUSE they're so busy with something.

We don't know what's going on with IGA, but I'm sure we'll find out soon. Can't keep the likes of a producer getting fired or whatever from the press for long.

I get the feeling this is a temporary experiment for Castlevania to try especially for bringing CV into 3D and that IGA is still at least the head of handheld title development.

Yea but that dosen't mean anything. There's been a ton of artwork/pics/screencaps from other games that didn't show a floating keep, but there still was one when you played the game.

The Keep is a shapeshifting part of the ever-changing, multidimensional castle, you know, the creature of chaos stuff :P
