No, you're not in the minority and I belong to the same bunch. What I'm saying is just because this guy is not IGA doesn't mean I won't observe what he does and says. And like I said, he is still a greenhorn, at least when it comes to CV, which means he needs to work to anchor himself.

It's the first time I ever heard someone say he wore a mask.

I mean, dude, that's his face. Mishapen, sure, but still his face.

Well see, if you look closely it looks like there's a strap going around the back of his head. It looks to me like it's connected to a mask. I guess it's just me, but I seriously have always believed that Dracula just wore a mask in the first game. It looks like there's a head behind it. I actually have trouble seeing it as a face.

Guys, the mask is obviously the main plot device for the moon crashing into the earth. Gabriel has to get it back from the skull kid.

He dons a mask in Super Castlevania IV as well, which is considered a remake of the original Castlevania storyline. He even removes it near the end of the battle, revealing a cadaveric face.

What are you talking about? In SCV4, he just disappears and reappears in skull form. There's not animation of him taking off his mask. Unless you seen something a lot of us didn't.

No, Dracula just has a normal face, then a skull...no mask.
What a horrible night to have a curse!

Its obvious this is the prequel to Van Helsing. Now we finally learn about Gabriel's mysterious past, and how he loses his memory and becomes the champion for the Catholic church.

When I said "removed" I was talking figuratively. His face looks like a mask to me because it has no discernible facial features sans empty red eyes and something that can or can't be a nose (a mouthless mask, you know like Vega).

But that could be said about most, if not all 2D CV games. All the character faces lack any distinguishing features. They all must be wearing masks!! Especially the earliest ones, where the Belmonts just have a blot of flesh for their face. He was wearing a potato sack!!! :D

Hm...I get what you're saying, but I dunno...I never thought of it as a mask. I always thought Drac's first form in SC4 was his unnaturally youthful, magically-enhanced vampire nobleman face, and only when you had dealt enough damage to him does his magic begin to weaken and you see his true form--a decrepit, monstrous corpse.

Check out the cover of the Akumajo Dracula gamebook.

http://castlevania.classicgaming.gamespy.com/artwork/cover.jpg

While its not canon, it definitely shows the mask over the demon head that some people are saying that they are seeing.

I had always thought that he was wearing a mask in the picture because the gamebook was about a film that was under production about Dracula.  But now I see the resemblance to his original sprite in the first Castlevania.
