I agree I'm not liking the amount of "day" shots compared to "night".
But I don't agree about the candles. They need to be there, as they are a unique gameplay-quirk that's wholly synonymous with Castlevania. You see a screenshot of someone breaking a candle with an item popping out and you just KNOW it's a Castlevania -- there are very, very few exceptions.
If the candles aren't there it just won't feel like CV.
I understand that newcomers would be entirely confused by the concept of breaking candles to get items, when most modern games have shops and farmed-corpses, but the candles were always a key platforming feature that helped break up the "walk forward, slash-enemy, walk forward" formula.
Not to mention that they add a sense of mystery and adventure to any given room cause you never know what you'll find in a given candle, and several in the past have been a challenge to even reach and break open. It's like a constant stream of mini treasure chests just waiting to be unlocked.
If you take Castlevania's candles away, it'd be like taking Mario's Item-blocks away.
