But like those games mentioned, Lords of Shadow would have to have a convincing foil to make up for lack of Dracula. Dracula technically was in HoD though not until the very end and he was a wraith. Lament had the lead-up for Dracula to appear in future games and started the feud with the Belmonts. The Sorrow series didn't deal with Dracula directly, but with his direct incarnation who had the susceptibility to become Dracula again if given the right direction.
So really, even if LoS doesn't have Dracula directly, I believe they need to have him indirectly linked in some way to maintain a bit of the spark that keeps the game tied to the rest of the series, in spirit if not in actual timeline-sense. A Castlevania with no hinting or mention of Dracula ANYWHERE in any sense, I will agree is not a true Castlevania game. There needs to be something. Otherwise, I will be disappointed.
And if there's not a direct Dracula, please give us more than just one vampire otherwise. I want the Lords of Shadow to be a whole mess of vampires with a feel akin to Vampire Hunter D. READ HIDEYUKI KUKUCHI, COX!!!
