You guys misunderstood what Cox meant.

It was originally going to be a REMAKE of the first castlevania. From the get go, but konami didn't greenlight it yet so they didn't want to say it was castlevania till they got to see more of the game.
Yes, this is what I got out of it too.  It was always intended to be a Castlevania, but at first it wasn't an official CV because it didn't have Konami's stamp of approval.

A very nice preview, with interesting things about Clock Tower and some enemies (The creepy Evil Butcherer  ;D)

Loving the interviews/previews/screens. This game keeps looking better & better. Can't wait for a new trailer and release date. Hopefully we hear something before E3. June just seems so long away.

The game informer article was especially cool. Medusa Heads in the Clock Tower and the Evil Butcher just sounds sooo horribly beautiful  ;D

I can respect those of you who are still leary. I think of when the 1st screens ov CV: Lament came out, the 1st CV in 3D! I thought, THIS IS THE 3D CV I IMAGINED! Even from the trailer, I was even MORE sold. Like these..

But then, as most of us experienced, when we played the game, there was something missing. (I still love Lament, for alot of it's atmosphere, don't get me wrong). But what I am trying to say, is that no matter HOW many sweet screens are brilliantly edits trailers we see, the true proof will be in our personal experience when we pop the disc in..

But I really believe this Cox guy has a passion for alot of the same CV elements that alot of us here do as well :)

I can't say I've been keeping up with this game as much as I should be, but it looks spectacular. If the game is playable at E3 we should be able to get a handful of "first impression" articles in the gaming press; that never hurts. From what I can see, the game looks amazing, a truly epic Castlevania. We shall see...

wait... so the screens in the clock tower. all of the pillars are cogs? That's gotta look sweet as hell. Also im getting the impression the platforming bits have very few enemies to fight. I dunno... is this good or bad?

Um, well the game doesn't take place in the offical timeline but rather starts everything over again. The game has a date though: 1047.
Wow, even earlier than LoI's 1094!!

I liked lament, but i always thought the story was funked up...like the whole Mathias = Dracula thing...WTF!

Hopefully LoS will have a good enogh story that they will replace LoI with LoS in the time-line.

I understand your point, but there's actual platforming in LoS' screenshots... The LoI ones (still amazing btw) haven't any.

I think we shouldn't worry about this 3d castlevania for various reasons.

Sure when we saw laments trailer and screenshots we were stoked. The thing is they BARELY showed platforming nor did they talk about it, and they showed areas spliced together making it feel less repetitive.

Now lets compare, this is a chapter based game so areas will probably be less repetitive, plus they mention platforming frequently which insures areas that have more complex structures than lament, also this game as a huge budget compared to lament.

Based on the images of the areas within the game you can tell they put more attention into the geometry of this game. I think in the end the only way this game could potentially fail, is if the game is broken in some way...Difficulty, or the fact that it borrows from so many games that are already out.

That article makes me a bit more excited, and with Evil Butchers in the game, you can't go wrong!

Good points Dan, especially about what we have seen so far on LoS, already shows that the geometry is simply way more complex and non- go from boxy room to boxy room. Plus, on these next gen systems, developers would be dumb/lazy not to take advantage of their power, i.e. complex levels and quantity of them (i.e., the reported 50 stages in LoS).

So are you the same Dan that wrote that GI article? Haha..

New article at 1up. Not sure if it's been posted here yet. Interesting bit on how they send buildsoduction out to Kojima Productions for approval and feedback, and how that has been going..

Im glad that Cox has re-confirmed that the game will not have QTE's when fighting your enemies so that the player wont get distracted by buttons all over the screen. So instead the player will just watch Gabe pull off finishing moves without waiting for the big buttons to appear on screen.

Like how Darksiders did it for example
