My main complaint thus far is that we haven't seen a lot of traditional platforming. No, I don't mean beam balancing or shimmying (which, unless this game revolutionizes the way action characters shimmy, is bound to be boring as hell), I mean just plain old jumping from platform to platform. Shuffling slowly across a ledge is not my idea of a good time in 3D. Otherwise, the game looks fantastic and I can't wait to get my grubby mitts on it.

I agree, Munchy. I'm thinking there'll be some of that in the last areas, though. But I hope there's an even mix.

The Sanctuary environment looks gorgeous.  Some top quality BGM on there and we have a winner.

I'm somehow reminded of Tomb Raider rather than PoP (oh no, another game to compare it to!) . . . moody environments, solitude, climbing, shimmying, and probably finding those Ark devices will be like finding TR secrets.  No bad thing at all.  The level of detail in the background and architecture is amazing, and it's got to be the case that no two rooms/places will look exactly the same.  They have the budget of course, but still, Mercurysteam have worked hard.

Not really impressed by the HUD myself, but I do like the Heidelberg font (used often on Ravenloft material).  The tome looks pretty slick, and a good way to get into the story/select chapters.

Fingers are crossed the game plays well.

Well, that area does remind me a lot of the aqueduct level in CV4 (or CV3, if you prefer), what with the waterfalls and battered ruins in the background.

Dave Cox said right at the start, "forget what you know about Castlevania", and true to his word most screens and enemies we've seen thus far have been unlike anything we've seen in the series to date.  They've taken some classic settings and they're putting their own slant on it.  It's going to be different enough that it's going to feel fresh and like a new game.

Then suddenly, we realize the area is named Mortiva Ruins or something, and Cox chortles, "I hope you remember."

Maybe we will, in fact, hear a remix of "Sinking Old Sanctuary" in that level. Personally I think it's been used one too many times, but I guess it could fit.

Oh ok I guess it was just confused by the "this game is taking Castlevania back to its roots!" statement.

If the music sucks that's probably going to sour the experience for me. So far all we've heard is generic orchestra melodies straight from the public library archives.

Agree heartily here, though I remember one interview video with David Cox that had some pretty bizarre string music not at all like the Hans Zimmer blaaaah we've heard so far. Wish I remembered which one it was.
