Count me in! ;D (pun intended heheh)

You're up to Bat!

I do hope this game has at least some lame puns. It's got to if CV4 is really its bible.

Not to step back earlier in the thread, but I can’t take many of these reviews too seriously.  It’s one thing to dislike linearity, fair enough, but to compare it to a post-1997 Castleroid under the dubious auspice of exploration being a series staple—while at the same time taking into consideration this is a reboot—is somewhat puzzling and contradictory.

“Metroidvania this is not,” wrote IGN.  No, indeed.  I can see their point because the Castleroids are brilliant and a fully realised 3D one could be something else.  But, why expect it?  An objective reviewer would take the “reboot” for what it was, accept it, and simply evaluate it.

I’ll have to go with CVG here and their re-imagining of a 16-bit classic, sounds much more reasonable.  If only, because they’ve played the old stuff and can draw a proper parallel.

There do seem to be framerate issues, but Darksiders suffered the same.  Was a gem of a game.

I'd like to point all the dip shit reviewers to the MSX version of CV which is completely linear yet still had as much or more exploration than the metroidvanias. And is it just me or does it seem like the US based reviewers are giving the game lower scores? Is it EU'ers being to lenient or the US'ers being too harsh?

Can someone here make a gif with Gabriel walking with the map in the background? I thought that was cool looking.

Also put the words "Haters gonna hate" on it if possible. :)

Good morning everyone! Happy news for 360 owners from Cox:
Quote
The games are identical. The 360 review code had some issues with frame rates but not major and they are not in the final
Yahwee!!

Edit: Enslaved review, funny how Gamesradar mentions Lords of Shadow various times as a reference, lol they are comparing games to it already! http://www.gamesradar.com/xbox360/enslaved-odyssey-to-the-west/review/enslaved-odyssey-to-the-west-super-review/a-20100929105238369084/g-20090929164312709019

I just read the ign review and I think, aside from expecting it to be a metroidvania, this isn't that bad of a review. He really didn't have all that much negative to say about it except for that it takes a lot from other games, which isn't that terrible and that it really doesn't take that much from Castlevania, which a lot of people felt since the beginning. I think this guy was just being honest and I think that takes a lot of balls. It also makes me question whether or not konami paid off some of the reviews. I really hope that's not the case. I haven't been too active on here lately, but did I see that the guy who reviewed this got fired? Cause that makes me wonder this even more.

I'm still really excited to play it next Tuesday, I guess I'm just expecting a great game, not a great Castlevania game
What a horrible night to have a curse!

I'm expecting a great game that changes what Castlevania should mean from now. Not only excellent 2D games but magnificent 3D games as well. This is it.

Edit: Vandal review, calls it one of the best gamesof the year. 8.8! Congrtatulations! (BTW, Vandal counts on metacritic ;) )

I don't mind lukewarm reviews cause I have an opinion of my own, but I just wish this game was praised cause it would help the franchise to grow more popular. I mean, I wouldn't care if I was the only person left on earth who liked Castlevania, but better scores mean more sales and, as a result, bigger budgets for Castlevania. Though in all honesty, how important are reviews? I think they matter to some extent, but there are many examples of games that got GREAT reviews and still didn't sell. At the same time, we have franchises such as Need For Speed which ALWAYS sell like crazy even if some of the entries (ProStreet comes to mind) get mediocre scores.

I haven't played LoS yet, but from what I've seen it looks like a 'effin great game. I would be very surprised if I don't love it. I rarely think reviewers are full of crap - it's perfectly fine to have an opinion that differs from mine - but with LoS I don't think Gamespot or IGN are being fair. I obviously don't know yet, but something tells me they're.. dunno.. W R O N G!

Good to hear that about the framerate stuff. Guess I'll stick with the 360 version after all. (And I gotta say, there's a certain novelty to be had in it being the first Castlevania to span multiple disks.)

My impressions after watching vdeo with the first 30 minutes of gameplay.
LOS reminds me about CV64 on steroids. Especially when it comes to platforming. And pacing definetely reminds me about CV64 - encounters with eneimes separated by platforming sessions and puzzles. I think it's awesome.

As for reviews, I didn't read most of them yet. But from ones I've read, I got an impression that reviewers  think that Castlevania is synonimous with "metroidvania". It's like they never heard of classic games or delibirately ignore they existence. One of the reviewers even call "metroidvania" style a core of the Castlevania gameplay.
Well after all of this years such opinion could exist, but how much times Cox told that LOS is modeled after classic games of the series, particularly after SCV4? So why reviewers exasperated by the fact that LOS is not "metrodvania" and doesn't resemble Symphony of the Night and it's heirs?
I mean, I could understand if someone said that LOS is modeled after "metroidvania" games, and then final game has nothing to do with it. But LOS wasn't modeled after them so why this strange reaction? I am at loss...

Anyway, I am supporting the idea of creating something special for the MercurySteam and Cox. I think they deserved it already.
If only Konami properly advertise this game...
