Yeah, it was implied that he renamed himself Dracula when he became Lord of Vampires. Lame, but it's there.

I'm a few days late for modding this thread, but it looks like things have settled down.

We do indeed have some very passionate individuals who are very adamant about expressing their opinion on how things "Castlevania" should be.  I think that, overall, this is a positive thing, but it can make one very rigid and unable to view new games and experiences with a fresh perspective.

If I don't like something about, say, LoI (for example), as a human being, I can use that one thing to psych myself into disliking everything about LoI.  Just like how people dislike the idea of anachronistic objects such as "Skeletons on Motorcycles" and immediately hate everything about the game that features them, when clearly other games have used that same plot device (LoS, CV3, Bloodlines, etc.).

It's strange how we humans love to force ourselves to be negative.  Here are some instances of the extreme level of negativity we have seen from the fans over the years, here:

-DraculaXX sucks (SNES version) because it is not Rondo.
-Symphony's overrated, because half of the game is a cop-out reverse uninspired version of the other half.
-Alucard must be alone forever, and not be allowed to fall for anyone.
-Legends sucks because it's not as good as Belmonts' Revenge.
-Legends sucks because a Belmont must never be female.
-Legends sucks because Sonia may have been romantically involved with Alucard (see "Alucard must be alone forever" rule).
-Belmonts must be pure, untarnished, and may not have descendants with last names other than Belmont.  Any Belmont descendant that's a descendant because of a female Belmont, automatically loses all powers of a Belmont the minute they lose that last name (WTF).  This means Reinhardt Schneider sucks, so his game sucks.  John Morris sucks, so his game sucks, and Jonathan Morris sucks, so his game sucks too.  They are not true Belmonts and are not allowed to touch whips without dying.
-Legends sucks because it contradicts CV3.
-I hate CotM because I have to double-tap to run and it's annoying.
-I hate CotM because most of the music is boring versions of old tunes (oddly enough, I've seen the word 'love' for this game for the same reason).
-Any game that features a non-Belmont will fall into obscurity in the pages of CV history.  Hector, Cornell, Reinhardt, Shanoa, Nathan, and John & his son Jonathan, they are never to be referenced in any other games.  Apparently, only Richter matters.
-HoD sucks because of slow floaty controls for Juste, and because the game is a convoluted mess with low-quality music.
-HoD sucks because the plot is essentially the same as CotM's, with a generic damsel in distress thrown in there for good measure.
-AoS takes place in the future?  What kind of stupid idea is this.  An eclipse?  What were they smoking?  Also, Soma is Japanese.
-The big argument over the bad localization of AoS.  Soma is/isn't an exchange student, is/isn't Japanese.
-Motorcycle Skeletons in CV64.
-Lack of good camera control in CV64.
-Unusual controls in CV64/LoD.
-Insipid story of LoI (the beginnings, the whip, the aftermath).
-Dracula's Origin in LoI.
-Lack of platforming in LoI.
-Insipid sequel with CoD, butchering what CV3's 'story' events were (even though the CV3 events were maybe one page of text).
-Apparent blowing up of all of LoI's flaws with CoD's design team (LoI had similar rooms, CoD has huge similar rooms.  LoI has a convoluted map, CoD has a huge convoluted map, etc.).
-Judgment's costuming choices ruining the entire game.
-Harmony of Despair's pandering to the fans, yet (over)charging them for basically already-existing sprite and tile sets.
-LoS's lack of memorable music.
-LoS's Dracula origins story.
-LoS's lack of Castlevania-ness.

Can you feel the hatred?  It's really unnecessary to be so extremely rigid about aspects of the game that we have no control over.  We are just a fanbase.  We have very little pull with developers, designers, and certainly with Konami.

It's great to voice an opinion.  Hell, I'll defend LoD in every chance I get, but to be so seething with hatred bile, when it is just a different opinion...?  It's a bit extreme.

Yeah, it was implied that he renamed himself Dracula when he became Lord of Vampires. Lame, but it's there.
Seemingly Mathias renamed himself directly after he fled, simply because(as IGA said) "Dracula" means "Son of the Devil"(which is the same as "Son of the Dragon", pulling from the Book of Revelations that the two are one in the same). It was a way of rebelling against God and shedding his holy name("Mathias" means "Gift from God").

That and getting a new name after you've become a heathen is probably the smart thing to do. As mentioned above, the choice of the name is also very symbolic of the transformation.

you know what Sumac i'm just going to ignore you because its obvious to anyone who has been reading your post that your a LOS fanboy
Nice.  8)
You just amazingly prooved everything that I stated before. As expected all my arguments and explanations go over your head and there is another "Sumac defensive post DURRR..." thingy. Well, I have nothing to say. There is no reason to speak with someone who clearly can't get the meaning of what I was trying to say for all this time.
I'll try to answer in your style: for everyone reading your posts it should be clear that you are IGA / "SOTN CV" fanboy, who just couldn't think out of his little, cozy box and therefore label everyone who try to convince that it is not right thing to do as "LOS fanboys".

Quote
who is overeacting and who the REAL fanboy
You try to challenge me for a contest who of us is the better fanboy? LOL.
Sorry, but I am not up to your league.  ;D

Quote
"Another unclear, but overall messy and overly defencive post from DarkPrinceAlucard *sigh*"
That's insult? Really? I think it's the same thing that you told me in your previous post. Should I recall it? Yep. Here goes:
Quote
another defencive agreesive post from Sumac *sigh*
Not much of a diference. Seems you forget what you posted. Tsk, tsk...Not good thing to object to words of other people, when you seemingly doesn't remember what you just said.

Quote
i personally hate the idea of Alucard becomeing a Belmont it would be completely lame IMO.
belmont are meant to be Humans

Quote
now tell me how is that post fanboyish?
If you would give some explanations to the "meant to be" thing, then I would have think differently about all situation. As of now, sorry, but this explanations in style "it is bad because it is lame". Not much of a reasoning, but more of pure and unadultered fanboyish reaction.

Contradicting myself I'll try to explain my views clearly. Once again. If this time you will not get it...
Once again, and I sincerely hope this time it will be clear for you - I am not LOS fanboy. I am not even only "old school CV" fan or "new CV school fan". I think both are interesting, though I personally prefer old CV games and that's why I think highly about LOS.
I try to make it clear that thinking that only one thing / style is good for Castlevania - is a wrong approach. Series (especially long running ones like CV) need diversity and experimentation in order to survive changes in player's mentality and technical specs. Long-runing franchises need radical changes once in a while. In case of CV it is not even much of a radical shock. Bsically all 3D games in this series were very different form traditional 2D ones. Besides it is different timeline, as it was partially the case with CV64 (that doesn't cancel old one and doesn't prevent new games being produced in it and under supervision of IGA), next installment of which we most likely will not see for the next few years. It would be a shock if MS completely took complete control over series, creating nest 2D and 3D installments but, happily for some people and sadly for the others, it didn't happen. And while I prefer some CV styles over the others I always try to stay open for the new ideas and judge games not for their ideas, but for they execution. Because I know - some ideas could sound horrible on paper, but quite interesting in execution and of course vice versa (it happens more often though). As Jorge D. Fuentes said - we don't have any influence on the developers. We can scream at them for all we care. It will not change anything (at least when japanese developers are involved). I repeat myself - there is no sense to hate some changes, when we don't know about they exact nature and the context.
In the end I just hope that people will be more constructive and less RAGING.

Hey guys, stop it, seriously, the good thing about discussion is arguments, intellectual, deep arguments (I'm not saying I have them, but believe me I'm trying lately) not fanboy rage, in any direction (IGA rage, Cox rage, Old Scholl rage etc) because you are discussing completely ethereal concepts (Personal meanings of what CV is, personal likes over every opinion based on subjetivity) and not actual facts. If you want to fanboy rage, go to gamefaqs or something, but this is a discussion board and believe me, you are not adding anything to it.

Returning to the actual discussion, mmm, concerning Gabriel's name, is it my impression or God is ever present in CV? Do you think we'll "see" him pulling strings in the future?

hey Ahaserus i would love nothing more then to end this petty discussion (thats going nowhere) but its really Sumac who just refuses to let it go.
i just stated my opinion.
i have the right to voice my opinion without being attacked by long yet meaningless posts that bring NOTHING to this discussion.
i simply said i don't like the idea.
others have said it on this topic aswell and yet you choose to direct your post at only me which is weird.
i'm willing to think outside the box hell if you would READ a couple of my earlier posts i'm not denying that Cox could pull this off and make it good.
its posible.
i am however just saying that "currently" i'm not thrilled with the idea aswell as others have pointed out.
please stop with your long and overly thought out posts Sumac and i promise to just leave it alone here and now and just ignore you and you can do vice versa. we can agree to disagree depending on your next post its up to you

Dracula means 'son of the Dragon'. The 'Devil' part is nothing more then christian propaganda. A dragon is an old symbol that predates christianity by many thousands of years. Since dragons are serpents they have more in common with the snake; the snake being the ancient symbol of fertility and creation. The asian dragons for instance look like giant serpants with small, short arms, legs and an extremly long coiled body. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Jesus talked about dragons in this way only to have the vatican omit it from the Bible because it didn't 'fit' with their own personal views. While only christianity views the devil and the dragon to be one and the same, every other ancient spritual belief world-wide (not counting other christian sects), claims otherwise.

If I see more of these 'quote-battle arguments amongst a select few people' with insulting undertones under every sentence, I'm going to start deleting people's posts outright.

I really don't want to do that, as I love open discussion, but when there's less discussion and more needless bickering, it's just a giant waste of time to read.
