No it isn't, Gabriel was never even a real Belmont. He gave himself the surname when he was younger. As far as anyone knows, no real Belmonts actually exist in this timeline.

Real enough for someone to proclaim that they will "wipe the name of Belmont from this world... forever!".
But yeah, I guess it's not really the same. Parts of the LoS storyline is just downright shady to me.

Seriously Cox has confirmed already that Gabriel is the "first" Belmont, expecting some other hero to step in and take up the Belmont name just because it sounds cool seems ridiculous & almost pathetically hopeful. Cox made a lot of fuss over having a Belmont (it's one of the reasons I found the ending so disappointing) & from what I've read the Cronqvist's are nobodies in LOS's universe so I don't see how that link has any significance.

In regards to Laura
Did anyone else get the impression she could be Gandolfi's daughter? I've only watched the cut scenes & read the wiki articles so obviously I don't know the full story but that’s the impression I got.

Well if he's the "first" then obviously someone else will come along after him.

Why does the possibility of another "discarded" hero adopting the Belmont name seem more ridiculous than what has already been presented to us? It's really not that farfetched, and despite what Cox says in interviews he still never intended for Gabriel to be a authentic Belmont anyway (or else they would've never threw in that "bastard son of the Cronqvists" tidbit in there).

Hmm, haven't thought of that. That is pretty plausible. But wait, didn't her profile say she was centuries old?

It's quite possible that Gabriel becomes so revered for his combat skills and saving the world that the name Belmont becomes legend and some young orphan takes the name because he knows the legend. Idk though it seems very backwards. Why have two different families named Belmont with no relation? Besides that, what would the motivation for hunting Gabriel be?

I just think that the theory is almost entirely based off a desire for the Belmonts to be seperate from Dracula & disregards too much of what LOS has established to make any sense as a follow up.

The tidbit which you speak of played little part in LOS's story & so I get the distinct impression it was only intended as a hint (or warning) to fans of the series about to what to expect from LOS.

I don't see how that theory disregards LoS' setup. Gabriel Cronqvist becomes Dracula for whatever reason, a new Belmont emerges to take him down (obviously being oblivious to the fact that "The Dragon" also called himself Belmont at one point), and it could be like the classic games all over again.

Or they could just have Gabriel battle his son which may or may not be Alucard, and then his grandson, then his great-grandson, etc. It's too bad Cox already boxed himself in story-wise by making that epilogue.

Nah! we all know that the next game will be set in the present & feature Dracula fighting alongside Zobek to defeat Satan & Gabriels traitorous son Alucard Belmont. What a unexpected twist that would be! Alucard a villain! they could even give him a makeover similar to Cornel or Brauner even ;D

Believe me Im all for fandom implosions and I would love to see this, Alucard a villain, that would be a sight to see.

But let be real, if Alucard shows up in the LOS world Im almost positive that he wont look like Brauner or Cornell, Cox (and maybe the character designer at MS)know's how popular that guy is. And if the DmC fiasco taught us anything is that you dont fuck around with a popular character's initial design.

Besides, at the very least he will most likely look like Raiden, without the cyborgness.

Since when?  Ignoring the ten billion and seven rumors surrounding this game in its development stages, Gabriel wasn't even confirmed to be a Belmont until what, a month or two before the game was released?

Well at the very least there was certainly a degree of significance placed on having an authentic Belmont hero, you could even argue that early comments made regarding Gabriel’s design & weapons before he was confirmed point toward this. But to be more precise here are  some quotes from interviews with Cox on the topic:

David Cox at Gamescon 2010
“We wanted to answer the question about the Belmont’s: Why do the Belmont’s hunt the creatures of the night? Why? This is a question that we answer in Castlevania LOS”

David Cox from Exclusive: Castlevania LOS Dev insights: Part 1
“And it was important that we had a Belmont as the main character, for me growing up with Castlevania. The original Castlevania premise was you know - Belmont’s with the chain whip battling supernatural creatures”

Well, I sure as hell didn't understand the new meaning behind the Belmonts hunting down evil/Dracula in this game. Unless he was referring to Gabe's quest to save Marie, then that's pretty stupid.
