Nah. The really painful kind that make you think you've contracted some sort of extinction level plague and you have to come to terms with your inevitable and cruelly painful demise. ^_^

Agreed. I just started playing through LoS again and I'm enjoying it even more the second-go around. I'm convinced that just about everyone who hates this game made up their mind before it even came out that they were going to hate it no matter what. (Even if they do have some valid arguments.)

Alot of us saw trailers like these and felt egregiously misled after playing just the first couple chapters...

Also there are two separate issues.  One being the quality of Lords of Shadow on its own merits --which nobody here really challenges, it's a very good game...  But the issue is what gets a lot of people...  Is it Castlevania?  Remember we were told from the beginning to "forget everything we know about Castlevania" because this pretender is Konami's intended replacment.

Yeah, I had high hopes for this game before I even saw the first trailer. I became of the opinion that it was a good action game, but failed as a CV game after playing it and experiencing the entire story. It's a game supposedly inspired by CV1/SCV4 with more in common with Prince of Persia & Metal Gear plus a sprinkling of God of War than it does with Castlevania. And I'm sorry, a lone warrior fighting supernatural monsters, does NOT sum up the essence of CV. That's too broad, and could be applied to a shit tone of games. Hell that statement could just have easily be attributed to Ghosts'n'Goblins, Legacy of Kain, or God of War.

No, it's not Castlevania.  It's a great game, but it's just not Castlevania.

For you, man. Saying this as a bold statement is disrespectful to the work of developers and the likes of fans.

And it's got Castlevania on the box so it IS one, problem?

And God knows I'm tired of this talk after 2 f****g years

Read the quote again.  He complimented their work.  Lords of Shadow was strong enough on its own merits be a new and separate franchise --I doubt anyone here would disagree....  The name doesn't make the game.

Really, that's also describing Maximo, Rygar, Kid Icarus, several others. But to Cox credit he also said there's a chain whip involved, heh

It's Castlevania in name only.. just like most of the "returning characters" in the game. They said it themselves, "they respect the older games but they don't wanna be a slave to them," which is why it seems so alien. Ironically this line of thinking backfired, since the final product was damn-near unrecognizable as an authentic CV (with some exceptions). Casual fans don't care, cuz they didn't really care about the previous titles in the first place so none of this bothers them.

I'm thinking LoS-2 will have a little bit more of the Castlevania charm.. but not much. Pretty much more of the same. MS already has the engine & foundation down so I doubt they're gonna change things now.

Your right. Its a lone warrior fighting supernatural monsters with a whip. Usually a chain whip.

Really? I recognized it quite well. Was it different? yes. very. but I certainly recognized it as Castlevania. I saw a Belmont with a Whip fighting supernatural creatures in a path that led from a forest to a castle, and finally to hell. in fact, for all the complaints about "BAWW GOBLINS, BAWWW TROLLS" it had much more "supernatural" creatures and less "mythological" ones. No Medusas or Greek mythological monsters here! Werewolves, giant Spiders, ghosts, vampires, zombies, mummies, We had armor knights, etc. only mythological monsters i can remember were the ogre, Wargs, trolls, and goblins. mayby those swamp hands.

if they "dont care" about them then they arent exactly fans at all are they? Not even Casual.

Well way i see it, MS might take some fan concerns into account. He has a twitter for a reason. and he DOES answer peoples questions and concerns, so now that we already have our Dracula, it is possible the next one will have more of a classic CV feel.

The issue here is that people are expecting it to be EXACTLY like the Castlevania they knew and grew up with. or the vania introduced to us when Ayami created the wonderful aesthetic of symphony.

case in point, my dog, Grizzly, has many characteristics of a Bear, with him being pretty fat, lots of hair & the 2 creatures share similar mannerisms. But he's still a dog.

No one is disrespectful to the work of developers, we all respect the work and effort they have put, in making this game!!!

Now, if i made a game with Mario as the main protagonist, using a whip and having him fighting zombies, goblins, vampires and put the name Castlevania on it, does this will make it a Castlevania game?

If you are tired of this talking, then just don't bother anymore, trying to convince people about something that they have been promised that they will get, only to find in the end that it was a lie, an illusion.....

Cox said that it was going to be a remake of the first Castlevania, but they changed that in the course of development, he also said that they were going to use remixes from Super Castlevania IV music, since he is a big fan of Super Castlevania IV, another lie......i could say much more, but you already know them.........

Only if Konami says it is.
this is hardly comparable.

wasnt entirely a lie. we have The waterfall and vampire killer.

And a few of the tunes sound like they could fit in LoI.

Just a name doesn't make it Castlevania, even if Konami says so.........

Yes, it wasn't entirely a lie!!! We have got two short tunes!!! :o and a dozen general tunes, that if you put your fantasy hard, they might fit some how.... :P

IMO your just grasping at straws.

As it was pointed out we were LIED to about things and there is no gonig back from that.

I felt that LOS could have been a much better game without the castlevania name on it since it IS a great game but did not give me what I wanted as a CV fan. Its a shame that the only real area in the game that gave me the CV vibe was Carmill'as castle and even then thats was only temporary after we had to leave it.

I don't know, I guess maybe there is just no pleasing some longtime CV fans and I am one of them I suppose lol. But if Cox wants to win me over he is going to have to keep all  of the promises he makes this time around and try his best to listen to all fan input on his sequel. Also ALOT more classic castlevania tunes would not hurt.

we have the same arguments on megaman boards. if its called a Castlevania game, it is a castlevania game, like it or not.

Wasnt saying we werent. The trailers all teased the image of gabe on the throne with Satans line of "Die Belmont" and they heavily emphasized the castle.

I was just responding to him saying we were lied to. we were, but not entirely is all.
