And I'm sorry, a lone warrior fighting supernatural monsters, does NOT sum up the essence of CV.
Your right. Its a lone warrior fighting supernatural monsters with a whip. Usually a chain whip.
It's Castlevania in name only.. just like most of the "returning characters" in the game. They said it themselves, "they respect the older games but they don't wanna be a slave to them," which is why it seems so alien. Ironically this line of thinking backfired, since the final product was damn-near unrecognizable as an authentic CV (with some exceptions).
Really? I recognized it quite well. Was it different? yes. very. but I certainly recognized it as Castlevania. I saw a Belmont with a Whip fighting supernatural creatures in a path that led from a forest to a castle, and finally to hell. in fact, for all the complaints about "BAWW GOBLINS, BAWWW TROLLS" it had much more "supernatural" creatures and less "mythological" ones. No Medusas or Greek mythological monsters here! Werewolves, giant Spiders, ghosts, vampires, zombies, mummies, We had armor knights, etc. only mythological monsters i can remember were the ogre, Wargs, trolls, and goblins. mayby those swamp hands.
Casual fans don't care, cuz they didn't really care about the previous titles in the first place so none of this bothers them.
if they "dont care" about them then they arent exactly fans at all are they? Not even Casual.
I'm thinking LoS-2 will have a little bit more of the Castlevania charm.. but not much. Pretty much more of the same. MS already has the engine & foundation down so I doubt they're gonna change things now.
Well way i see it, MS might take some fan concerns into account. He has a twitter for a reason. and he DOES answer peoples questions and concerns, so now that we already have our Dracula, it is possible the next one will have more of a classic CV feel.
The issue here is that people are expecting it to be EXACTLY like the Castlevania they knew and grew up with. or the vania introduced to us when Ayami created the wonderful aesthetic of symphony.
