Mario was still mario not really bowser
Resident evil followed the time line as far as I know and still kept many characters
as far ninja gaiden goes it followed the main story as well
And Prince of Persia well Im from Sparda so I dont play persian games.
Personally I think taking a story and saying its a love letter then make something completely in left field with some elements from the story isnt really a love letter and if it is its a bad one. Gameplay was amazing Graphically it was one of the best looking games Ive ever seen, music was a little too epic but still wasnt bad. But the execution is my problem with this game. The story started off good enough but reusing the "whole my love died so I gotta kill shit" theme and making a belmont really dracula isnt the best idea I believe. Again with and keep in mind this is just my opinion Lament the game was good but things I disliked was Mathias really being Dracula (Hellsing's Dracula is Vlad and its badass) and the whip being created from Alchemy I grew up under the impression it was a holy whip but again thats just me. Curse of Darkness with its well just about everything could have been a great game. The 64 titles were much more like "classicvania" to me but again they were a missed opportunity without funding to back them like the Los LoI and CoD I think they need to stray away from the theme of love reason I say this is because SotN there was a love story but it was faint it was mainly about a son's duty to right his father sins and previous Castlevanias were about the duty of the Belmonts having to rise up against Dracula. I liked it better when Dracula was just an evil bastard instead of this sympathy for the devil bs I mean that fits well with the story of Lisa but I would prefer him just to be an evil jerk like some of our classic villans like Dr Wily, Robotnik (HES NOT FUCKIN EGGMAN) and Gannon and the rest. I mean they have kinda turned Dracula into the emo kid in class. But anyway back to my point I feel LoS was a missed opportunity for the series I really feel that all jazz about this being a different game before is indeed true and they just retrofitted it as a castlevania much like they did with Chakkan the Forever man 2 retrofitting it as Blood Omen 2. I think they need to get back to basics like they said they would. A lone hero who's blood dooms him to face the might of Dracula. Yeah its been done but not for a long time. I mean they wouldnt even really need to use Dracula since he is indeed mathias they got about 4 hundred years in between the time the Belmonts face off against Dracula to show off how the Belmonts became such good hunters or if it pleases others even make a game where Vlad goes up against Mathias to become a vampire to gain power or something like that. But Ive raved long enough this is just my opinion so its whatever.
There's this thing called spacing you might wanna try. Makes reading things easier on the eyes.
You see, LoS, IMO, is no more less Cv than RE4 is RE. Your main beef in saying LoS isn't Cv seems to be that the main hero of the series (the first Belmont) became the main enemy (Dracula). I guess this is where we differ. I simply see it as a retelling of the story, an elseworlds version of Cv. Makes me really excited to find out where the story will go from here.
Up till now it's been the same old 'A Belmont or some other character (considering the series under Iga, just about anyone who can wander into the castle) has beaten Dracula. Watch the castle crumble, see you in the next 100 years or whenever some cultist or mind-violating dark priest decides to resurrect him.'
Before LoS, AoS was the last Cv game in which I enjoyed the story. As I said earlier, sometimes people can enjoy a new take on something they love, and sometimes they can't.
I strongly agree with Ahasverus though. We complain about wanting Konami to listen to the fans, but we rarely do little but complain about new titles when they come out. Perhaps it's warranted, or perhaps Konami has finally realized that pleasing us all impossible, and have decided to try to reach a bigger audience. Can't blame them. Luckily for me, I'm loving the new direction. Must really suck for those of you who don't (whatever the reasons).
