QTE's came about years ago from developers trying to deliver on the gamers' complaints that they were creating too many awesome cutscenes in their games without allowing the player any opportunity to play a role in those scenes.  Unfortunately, the solution they came up with was kinda "half-ass"...and has long since worn out its welcome.  I can appreciate having moments when you're presenting the player's character with mechanics that fall far outside of his/her/its norm, but they really need to either evolve this gameplay element HEAVILY...or do away with it for good.

Its  not like Simon has had one solid look throughout the years... The only "lasting" look was his Kojima one.

Not really. It's true his hair color has changed considerably in different games. But he had the long or longish blonde hair in CV, SQ, SCVIV and AkdraX68k and the headband thing in numerous games. I'd take a wild guess that is how almost everyone pictures him in their minds.

I can't be the only one who thought Claudia wanted Gabriel to pop her cherry when she said that  :-\

I just noticed that the game over screen melody almost sounds like the classic CV death jingle.

Huh. It does a bit now that you mention it.

My favorite part was the little CVll Simon sprite that appeared when you put in the konami code, which mimicked all your actions.

Also- Gunpowder has been around as far back as the 11th century, possibly even the 9th century. The Chinese created it through their studies in alchemy. It was spread around the old world as far back as the 13th century due to the Mongols. So its not a stretch to have explosives around in Lords of Shadow.

How about electricity and cyborgs? :)

Incidentally, the Frankenstein puzzle has been the most frustrating shit so far. These puzzles keep getting crappier. What's even worse is that sometimes the solutions aren't really solutions. It's all so bleh and aerghh.

I don't understand. Do you mean: am I going to criticize the game for having way too much of this redundant crap?

Recall who we are talking about here. Frankenstein. Those sort of things dont apply to him. Because they didnt exist in the 1830's either, and yet there we have the monster.

Nobody ever questioned Jules Verne! Even though he pretty much invented the nuclear submarine in 20,000 leagues!

Yea, Castlevania has been plagued with rampant anachronisms for quite a while.  No sense in complaining about it now.  We're talking about a gaming franchise that put Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, the mummy, Medusa, and every mythical creature in known literature into the same dark, haunted castle.  Are gun toting armor golems and motorcycle riding skeletons really that jarring?

That was sort of my point. It's just funny how often people have kept pointing out those skeletons when CV64 was in question. Really isn't that silly anymore, all things considering.

What I've also noticed is that recently, the N64 Vanias seem to have enjoyed some retroactive admiration. Which they totally deserve, IMO :)

That's because of the 3D titles that came after it. 3D CV's have been going downhill to the point where we then look back a CV64/LoD and think: Wow. They got it right the first time and no-one ever realized it. I wasn't a big fan of the 64 titles at the start since SotN was still all the rage and was expecting another 2D blockbuster. But now I find it far better then any other 3D title of CV. I occasionally play LoI or CoD but not for their poor lackluster stories or any other things like that. It's just for their soundtracks. That's it. But with CV64/LoD I can play those games for all that they are and have. And CV64/LoD got very creative in certain parts the the other 3D titles could've made use of but never did.
