I would say leave the story of 1999 (and the rest of IGA's timeline) open for fan fiction.  Its not like IGA had some great story in mind to tell; its actually pretty obvious from his interview that 1999 was just a background plot point for his Sorrow games, and he never intended to make the "epic" game story out of it that fans seem to expect.  Let the fans and their own imaginations write the ending (which I'm sure would be much more epic that the cheesy dialogue and paper-thin plot that IGA would come up with), and start the Castlevania story over with this new team.

Iga simply screwed up everything. I mean, was just make few good Castlevanias with 100 years resurrection and Belmonts with only a few of deep story like SOTN that difficult??
Now, if IGA's out (We don't have any information) Cox had to fix all those horrible plot hole, so, he made the right decision for starting, start a new concept in a story presummably placed at the coldest episode of the chronology; if he goes right, let's hope he will fix the entire chrono.

As excited as I am for Lords of Shadow, part of me wants it to be horrible, just so all the IGA bashers can shut up about somebody else making a better game!
What a horrible night to have a curse!

We'll, I want it to be good, but I never seen why people get so worked up when they start bashing IGA. You'd think IGA went into their houses and killed their families, strung them up and whipped them until their backs were bleeding with is faux-Vampire Killer.

I won't forget if there won't be a game of 1999.
I like the reboot idea, but if we think abou it, almost every saga that had a reboot ended its previous story; that's not the case of CV, thanks to IGA, we have HUGE plot holes and the 1999 is the second worst of them (The worst is how the Belmotn clan vanished and returned).
