I am sad that I won′t be able to play this because I don′t have XBOX360. I noticed on other forums, blogs and similar websites with comments that Despair is welcomed and people are generally happy and excited to get it. So it′s only a few of you haters (ironically in the CV fan community) here that want to bash the game. From the videos we′ve seen, it definitely looks fun. If you don′t like it, why not try the non-Castlevania ″CV″ game, LOS?

Dumbest post award.

Seriously man? Everyone has reason to hate it, it's not even new... They didn't even care to make FRESH NEW areas. It's all a bunch of hacked up locations from previous games put together. Everything about it screams lazy.

LOS is actually taking castlevania back to the basics and at the very least they show dedication and know how to create level's that are interesting for a change.

Yay! I hope we get high resolution artwork soon. I really want that main screen artwork. Only screenshots have been uploaded to the Konami Downloads section for now.

So, why are there greenery/plant enemies in a snow environment?
Heh, what PoR enemy placement.

I do like the new Ayami artwork though. They don't seem as stiff as her other art, Jonathan isn't ghastly pale, etc.
but where's my ayami charlotte

Technically, demonic plants could exist anywhere they please...
...but yes, I get what  you're saying.  It seems a bit slap-dash.

Art is nice. At least something decent will come from this game.

Game itself still looks like a fanhack though.
But I'm afraid it will not stop this "thing" from being popular.

I still can't get a good sense of the artwork based on these small images, but based on what I can see, I do like that it kind of reminds me of the Thief artwork in that it has a digitally painted look. (Pretty sure it's digital anyway; there's not enough detail for those to be actual painted drawings, but again, the images are too tiny for me to say.)

http://www.thief-thecircle.com/media/paintings/

And to think the guy who did the cutscene art and animation and developed the process for Thief: The Dark Project (AND directed the game and did voice acting) had wanted to do the visuals for A Scanner Darkly. That would have been so much cooler than the live-action-laden-with-filter, faux-animation crapola that did get made.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv3yWXexr40

Love how sometimes the cutscenes would employ silhouettes of actual people. It's kinda wonky, but it fits right in with the style, and works wonderfully. "Anything to get the job done" kind of approach.

What was this thread about again? ;D

Helloooo!  They are demonic plants and there IS a forest in the background, you know?  You think snow or very low temperatures are going to prevent demonic plants from having leaves?

Oh you just sound jealous that people who understand and have fun with this game will have more fun than you ever could.  That's no reason to rain on their parade calling it a "thing" because it doesn't fit your preferences for a Castlevania.  If only more people would think outside the box, they would avoid missing out on this fun style, and playing it with friends online multiplies its greatness even more!  ;D
All the people who are against it, can only rant and cry while the rest have fun with it.    :P

It's because the candles contain the souls of innocent victims of the castle. When you whip them free, they give you a "heart" as a thank you gift. I'm serious.

Please. Please.

Why is this game so staunchly defended?

Not everyone is going to like it. If they don't like it, then that is fine. If they want to rip out all of the flaws sewn away in it, let them. As noted, Castlevania 2 had a lot of flaws in it, however I still love it. I still love the CV64 Titles as well, even though they garnish a lot of hate. Like its a problem, please grow up? Its insulting to tell someone to "think outside the box" or they'll miss the "fun" of the game. Is beating a dead horse fun?

Well, guys, it is if you think outside of the box! HIT IT HARDER!

Didn't IGA come up with that explanation on the spot?
IGA should come up with more stuff on the spot.

I highly doubt that IGA came up with this explination. I remember hearing about this one too and it was a looooong time ago.
