I remember beating the original NES Ninja Gaiden not too long ago, I dunno how I did it through but it happened.

I was just so tired of dying over and over again for hours on the last stage and then when I beat the final boss I was like "Did I just beat the game?"

Ninja Gaiden Black is my favorite out of all the NG games, so very awesome and it makes me wonder what went wrong with Ninja Gaiden 2 even though it's obvious what had happened during development.

I have next to no hope for Ninja Gaiden 3.

Itagako did say in an interview that he was not able to balance the game for NG2.

as for NG3.... yea, I feel the same way.

LOL, you know game is hard when beating it feels like stepping into the Twilight Zone "Wait.....did I just beat the game...what's going on....where am I?"

Ita actually said in an interview that he made some major mistakes with NG2, and plans on fixing them in 3. Here's hoping he fixes the "constantly being blindly and cheaply shot at by multiple enemies from off screen" issue.

^Who? Itagaki or Hiyashi?

Cuz Itagaki is working on his own game with his own game company. Devil's Third.

If it's Hiyashi... he's more or less messed up two games for me. NGS and NGS2. So I'll have to take his word with a bucket of salt.... and vinegar.

From what I've seen of NG3, it's already looking like a piece of crap right from the start.

The only really hard game in the NES trilogy is the first. Second one is quite simple and the third is the cake walk, comparing to the first. I completed second and the third games on the first day, when they were bought (they were bought in different days =)).

The first game is nightmarish though. First levels are quite simple, but at the end the game take a sudden jump in difficulty. The worst part is the fact that you need to complete the last level from the begining, if you lose to any of the last bosses. That part really made me angry.

What pisses me off about the NES games is that the enemies re-spawn after being killed. This was a serious problem for me in the first game as I'm trying to ascend the tower to face the final foes and those stupid birds just kept on getting in my way. And just when I think I've killed them? I turn back which moves the screen maybe a millimeter and...BOOM! They're back. I'm glad someone out there invented the game genie.

ah, Hard Ninja Games, Did anyone get the fortune to play Shinobi for the PS2, that too was wicked hard.

That was hard mostly due to the fact that:

1) You had a bloodthirsty sword that causes to be constantly on the move and kill things.
2) Your sword does crap damage UNLESS you kill things, which can cause you to kill bosses within a few hits as a result.
3) WAY too many pitfall stages wherein one slight slip and it's back to the beginning of the level.

Good thing Kunoichi fixed all those damn problems...

Pretty sure it was Itagaki, but I could be wrong.

Pitfall was the only thing that kills in that game really.

There are few games that remind me of the good ol' NES days more than Ninja Gaiden.  I adore the first one.  It's one of my all time favorites.  I like the second and third, but they don't have the special meaning of the first for me, since I didn't play them as much when they were new.

The first one is tough as nails, but I've actually beaten it.  Once.  Ever since then, I play up to the final boss and get reminded what a pain it is to beat him, since dying takes you back three levels, and I quit.  There's a trick to all the bosses in that game though, including the final one:  That Jump 'n Slash special attack.  If you can get it and hang onto it til you reach the boss, you can kill just about any boss in two hits.  Jump into them with that special attack, and it'll drain their health.  The final boss is still a pain though, because you don't have enough ammo for that special to take down all of his forms in one go.  Luckily, once you beat one of his forms, you won't have to beat it again if he kills you.  But you WILL have to play through the last three levels again.

Ninja Gaiden II NES is very good, especially with the cool wind and lightning effects.  It's much easier than NG due to the shadow ninjas.  Just get them to stop where you need to attack, like in the boss's weak spot, and slash away.  As long as you don't move, they'll stay there and attack, and you won't take any damage when they get hit.

Ninja Gaiden III is a bitch for me.  I've never beaten it.  In fact, I've never gotten past the fourth stage without using save states.  I know some people say it's the easiest of the three, but I find it ridiculously hard.  Some of the levels are stupidly long without enough checkpoints, and they really throw a ton of enemies at you sometimes.  Especially in that level with the static/white noise background.  I usually play a few levels into it and quit out of frustration.  The stupidly limited continues aren't even an issue, because I get pissed at the game long before I run out of continues.

I have the Lynx port of NGIII too.  It's a very faithful port, but some of the sprites were enlarged without enlarging the hitboxes, so the hit detection is off.  And the music was horribly butchered in the port.  Other than that, it's fun to play...until the frustration factor kicks in.

I adored the NG Arcade game back in the day.  My school had a roller skating day at the local roller rink, and they had a NG cab there.  I used to play that game all the time, sometimes just to see the wicked Continue screen where a spinning blade descends toward Ryu, getting closer and closer until you put a new quarter in.  There's also an abbreviated Lynx port of the arcade game.  I've played the ROM, but haven't picked up the cartridge yet because it's pretty rare.  Really an impressive port for the time.

I've barely played the new Ninja Gaiden games.  I'm just not that interested, because the gameplay and story (from what I've heard) have nothing to do with the originals.  I don't see how they can bear the same name when it's the only thing they have in common.

That reminds me, Team Ninja recently made both the original NES Ninja Gaiden's and the new ones(along with Dead or Alive) as canon. Although im not sure what order they go in aside from Ninja Gaiden Black being first.

The new ones are prequels to the original series.

And i heard something along the lines of Sonia being the girl he ends up within the original series.

Take into consideration that in Japan "Ninja Gaiden" was an arcade beat'em up and the Famicom trilogy is a spin-off called "Ninja Ryukenden".
