From the same sources that leaked the Tomb Raider reboot like 1 year before its unveiling, we get this!
Quote
Details are anorexic, but our source has claimed the game is a full reworking of the vampire action classic, and includes a new art direction.

We have been previously told the project was aiming for a reveal this year – possibly at E3 – but new information has warned this may not be accurate.

It’s unclear where the new game will lie in the IP, and whether or not Raziel or Kain will lead. The series itself is Legacy of Kain; Kain is a noble murdered and revived as a vampire who embarks on a crusade to kill his assassins and be restored to human form.

The protagonist of Soul Reaver – the sequel to the series’s first title, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, which released in 1996 for PlayStation – is vampire-turned-wraith Raziel.

Soul Reaver – released in 1999 for PlayStation and PC, with a Dreamcast version following in 2000 – was a much-loved action adventure, and spawned a direct sequel in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 for PS2 and PC in 2001.

Two more games followed: Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain in 2002 and Legacy of Kain: Defiance for PS2, Xbox and PC in 2003.

Aside from some PSN releases, the series has been dormant ever since.

Crystal Dynamics is currently working on Square’s Tomb Raider reboot for release later this year. The studio has also confirmed it’s readying to announced a new IP in 2012. We’ve been told today this is an XBLA game.

We’ve reached out to Square Enix for comment, but no reply had been received at the time of writing.

While I'm concerned about the art direction, which I found un matchable (just hoping it's not cel shaded or cartoony.. please)
I couldn't be happier. With Castlevania's permission, LoK is THE Vampiric Series of gaming, with probably the best story ever told in the medium. I'm all for this.

The real question is... do you want it back? I believe all of the original creators are no longer there. The last to leave was Amy Hennig and she's doing Jak and Daxter and Uncharted.

Even though it will most likely fall into the tropes of modern action games, I cannot allow myself to not be hyped about this.

Hope it's true.

Oh yes, they could use the old screenplay and then it'll be fine, it only needs a serious graphical and mechanical ujpgrade, but have you seen the Tomb Rider Reboot? Those guys are F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C. If it's Crystal Dynamics, I'm all for it.

I'm still waiting for new news on the new tomb raider game. It's been over a year since we discussed it on this forum and I've not heard nor seen anything new on it.

Oh they know. They just choose to not care. More's the pity.
I care, which is how I manage to sleep at night.

In any case, never played the original games, so the reboot might be just what the doctor ordered for me.

How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Never played it... and haven't looked it up for a good long time. Is it out? It does "look" fantastic.. but then I noticed QTEs left and right, so it doesn't seem fantastic.  >:(

I'm probably alone here, but I think LoK overused the platforming elements and didn't have enough action. The games kinda felt like a dark version of Tomb Raider sometimes.
Also, What's with the instant-death for Kain in Defiance every time he falls into water? Goddamnit he's supposed to be the most powerful vampire in the universe why the f**k is he so hydrophobic?

Not the new one (that looks fantastic) but the old one! The Legends one. it was a reboot, retained everything that was good in the first place and made the series relevant again, these guys know how to make a good reboot  ;D

Which one are you talking about? there are five games with the title "Legacy of Kain" and not all of them are plataform games. Is not strange SR to be similar to Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics never hid that fact.

The water thing is explained in the second game, Soul Reaver. Raziel dies because he's thrown into water, the same with Kain. Vampires are vulnerable to water, it's like acid for them. However is from Soul Reaver on that it becomes more deadly since in the first Blood Omen Kain was pretty resistant to water being able to enter lakes and walk under rain, he suffered damage but he didn't die instantly and with the mist form he was invulnerable. Unfortunately Crystal Dynamics pretty much discarded most of his abilites and forms in later games. Kain is not the strongest vampire in the universe, he was the sole survivor of his race which puts him in the position of the strongest being in Nosgoth but when Vorador still lived Kain was second to him due to his youth. The strongest vampire that ever lived was Janos, according to his reputation.

Kain is part of the lesser vampire race, the high vampires are all dead (they ended their own lives) except for Janos.. who is dead too hahah

yeah, the transformed humans are inferior and eventually devolve but there are some exceptions like Vorador, because he was converted by an ancient vampire so he received the unaltered gift and Kain because he was converted through necromancy, plus he's the scion of balance which grants him certain features like the rest of the guardians. Kain is, mmm different, he's not like Vorador but is not like the lesser vampires either.

The first converted vampires were like Vorador but with the vampire purges of the human circle and the suicide of most ancients, the vampire's bloodline decayed until they lost their human form entirely becoming the monsters from Soul Reaver
