Things that would make a better Castlevania fighting game

Just drop any ideas here that you feel would make a Castlevania fighting game worth buying, playing, and treasuring.

Here's some of my ideas:

1.) Make the characters LOOK LIKE THEMSELVES (obviously).

2.) Make the game deliberately non-canon, rather than make us sit through another round of "IZ JUJMEANT KANON?" fights that figure so prominently into my memory.

3.) More characters from more games. I remember seeing the cast for Judgment and going "Seriously? THAT'S IT?"

4.) Incorporate some guest characters whose presence could be logically justified in a Castlevania setting, like Dante from Devil May Cry winding up in Castlevania while hunting Devils, or a character like Terra or Aqua from the Kingdom Hearts universe encountering Castlevania on their travels across worlds. Not saying those specific characters should be included, but their presence could be explained by the mechanics of their respective universes, so they make good examples for what I'm trying to suggest.

5.) All the characters can talk. Except Simon. 'Nuff said.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Um. NO? How the hell could you ever come to that conclusion?

Harmony of Despair is a fighting game if Richter mode of Symphony is a Classicvania.

In short, nope. It may share some mechanics on versus mode, but no. It's not.

Two words: Netherealm Studios.

Mortal Kombat 2011 was an excellent game. It gives lessons to Oshiri Ono in HOW to make a good meaty fighting game. Accessible but deep. Lots of extras artworks unlockables etc.. and also.. DAT STORY MODE.. it's the first fighter with a well presented story you can actually care about. The way they make you play with every character and how it unfolds... and that lenght.. it lasted like 6 hours making it go toe with toe with moden FPS campaigns. The roster was enormous with fan favorites revisited and refined. Of course there were missing ones but knowing that it takes in account the first 3 games its almost 40 characters are perfect. INcredibly knowing that capcom releases 15 and the other 25 as DLC. Not here!.

Incredible.. the MK2011 way is THE wayto go for a CV fighter.

Everything comes full circle

I still don't get why a Castlevania fighting game should be in 3D. We all pretty much agree that 2D Castlevania games are better than the 3D ones in every aspect. So why not have a 2D castlevania fighter? It makes more sense to have a CV fighter in 2D instead of 3D, since so far we've had  only one decent 3D  Castlevania and it's LoS (at least for those who consider it a CV game).
If they hire someone like Daisuke Ishiwatari (Arc System Works) I'm pretty sure it would be a  better experience than any 3D Castlevania fighter. Guilty Gear and Blazblue are the best fighters I've ever played. They have amazing graphics, gameplay and music too. The story isn't  bad either.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Casltevania fighter game along the lines of say, NEO GEO's King of Fighters. I'm sure you can imagine all of CV's characters given large, detailed sprites that are well animated. Gorgeous detailed backgrounds as well and a killer soundtrack from well-known artists that have done music for CV in the past (Not just Yamane but others too).

1.) Make the characters LOOK LIKE THEMSELVES (obviously).

Oh hell yes, that's a given!

2.) Make the game deliberately non-canon, rather than make us sit through another round of "IZ JUJMEANT KANON?" fights that figure so prominently into my memory.

I can get behind this too as we don't need another continuity mess-up.

3.) More characters from more games. I remember seeing the cast for Judgment and going "Seriously? THAT'S IT?"

Nothing beats a well-rounded character roster.

Mmm... Personally I'd avoid bringing in characters from other game companies. Instead I'd do what they did with Wai Wai World. Have Konami characters in the roster. I also think it would be rad to see a well-animated Konami Man and Konami Girl come back.

heh, of course HD isn't a fighting game.  i just couldn't help but notice that it did indeed meet all five criteria listed, except that it isn't a true fighter.  (well, except i suppose the roster isn't quite up to a fighting game's spec.)

I have to agree with Ahasverus.

Anywho only thing I want in a CV fighter are more Belmonts. I could careless about anything else.

They should just rip off Super Smash Bros. It's the only way it'd sell.

I agree with this statement. A gothic and dark SSB-like CV game would be killer.

Arc System Works? The only problem is, then the characters would look out of whack still, plus they'd find some way to stick in super generic anime sword guys. Music would be godly, though.

Making it 2D plane combat is a good start.

YES. That's probably the thing that bugged me the most about Judgment (and HD): shoehorning a story into this when it would be better off without one. To me, there's no satisfying way to try to explain why all of these characters from different time periods, good and bad alike, are fighting each other.

While I'm not completely opposed to another 3D fighting game, I can definitely agree with this. I think it would be a great look.

One thing I think would be cool (but not necessary) would be if they could sneak a game in there as an easter egg, maybe one of the weirder ones like Haunted Castle or Vampire Killer. But then that idea isn't necessarily limited to a fighting game, either.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

Wasn't Judgement eaxctly that? Mindless rip-off of the most famous video game crossover?
I always assumed it was, like another Konami "fighting game" TMNT: Mutant Melee.

I disagree with that. Completely.

Guest characters are shit. Thre is no need to waste precious resources that could be used to enhance game and make it better for fanservice pandering. All this time and money could be used for polishing game and creating native Castlevania characters, instead of throwing in some people who, no matter what, will look out of place in the game.

@ chernabogue. I agree with the ssbb statement totally. That game is kick ass. Imagine if they put in all cv characters. Now that would be the hot ticket!! Obviuosly they'd make it 3d. But maybe they could have a cool thing were you unlock some of the player like you do smash bros series. Plus maybe you could unlock a 2d version of the game. That' be pretty sweet.

Taking Edward Scissorhands to a whole new level!
