Wow that was quick. Looks like Konami is serious about this reboot, well I hope Mercurysteam will learn from their mistakes and make the sequel feel a little more like Castlevania.
Maybe they should take a look at the fan feedback thread. ;D
Why would they? If they are going to make a sequel this quickly, that means it sold well and I'm sure there are more people out there who love the game as is rather than few who write on message boards asking mercurystream to talior the game to their needs. I personally felt it was an excellent Castlevania entry with the Land of Vampires feeling so Castlevania it's not even funny, with the other areas (Land of the lycans and land of the dead, ect) nice ways to mix it up. The only thing I can seem them improving mostly is a more varied soundtrack and more than just one save file. I'm sure the combat and other mechanics will be tweaked since that's the point of a sequel as well is to improve on the previous game's gameplay.
Hopefully the sequel will rip off even more franchises for an even more grand experience lol
I don't know, i really enjoy LOS, but i still want more castlevania feel, music and such. That's a weird thing to say- you say it's not "Castlevania" enough but you don't want to play the same game over again. Everybody wants something from this series- too bad it's all different. Besides music- how you make it more Castlevania? Pork chops in the wall or same Dracula type battle we have been getting for 20 years?
I do not think the fact that the game was successful,, make them do the all same again, for example, Bioshock Infinite seems to be pretty different from the original.
I really don't want to play the same game all over again.
C'mon Cox, give us a Victorian 3D CV game!
That would be pretty awesome.
Yea I want someone new, or at least teach the guy how to make Castlevania music.
wow well this is indeed a quick turn around. Interesting that Konami specifically asked for a change in the soundtrack.
Here's hoping Araujo makes something more memorable and melodic this time around. Outside of the waterfall theme arrangement the soundtrack was pretty unremarkable.
Araujo went on to say that Konami had asked for a "rough" and "aggressive" score to contrast with the series' "effeminate" old image. It's not Oscar's decision, Scrapland soundtrack for example is very melodic and electronic, it was Konami decision for the soundtrak to be different, don't blame him.
>>>>>>>>> Every other CV song ever.
lol no.You don't have *** idea about music (Talking about the academic side of music of course). Tell a real musician Wicked child is better than this and will rofl in your face.
It'll be very disappointing if that Oscar guy returns to do the music (which will most likely happen anyway)
This is CASTLEVANIA, not Inception/Pan's Labyrinth/2012/whatever. Epic movie scores do not belong here. It's embarrasing when the fanbase isn't raving over a CV OST with the exception of very few.
You don't have shit idea about music (Talking about the academic side of music of course). Tell a real musician Wicked child is better than this and will rofl in your face.
Just sayin'
@Thernz:I think it's actually done better in LoI because it doesn't have those false door issues. I mean with the scenery LoI and CoD, there isn't really much that looks interactive anyway. So I guess in this case, less is more? The environment interaction in LoI is pretty horrible too, it's just that they don't give me second thoughts about things. The things that were actually interactive were obvious compared to their surroundings. CoD was just odd with how it had invisible walls around paths. So if anything, LoS probably fares better against CoD.
It's not that odd if you're played LoI or CoD... it's slightly done better, actually.
But I agree. There were quite a few times in which I wanted to open a door, only I couldn't open it 'cuz it was a background door. Or tried to jump to ledges that were just decoration. Or fell into pits just because I could (and was looking for some kind of platform somewhere). >_>
I think someone who does have an idea about music would choose Wicked Child over it. I mean, Wicked Child is a poppy composition, but this one has like... little composition value in it. It jumps all around, never developing its lines like it's schizophrenic. And all of the instruments don't seem to be playing in harmony with each other either. It isn't so much that this song has lots of layers in its composition, it's more like the instruments are just fighting each other. That's called a Rondo. Just sayin'
That's called a Rondo. Just sayin'That's not what I was referring to when I said "jumpy." |:
Typical "I'm an artist/musician/designer, I know what I'm talkin about" forum response, like I haven't seen that a hundred times. Only one that's ever proven it is Jorge. It's like I tend to say, if there's anybody more pretentious than Psychology majors, it's those who study the Arts. The ones that get big headed don't let you forget how wrong you are for not knowing anything about a specific type of art. Hell, I'd deal with 10 Psych majors trying to overanalyze me than one big headed Art student. ;D
>>>>>>>>> Every other CV song ever.
From the sounds of the music posted, this Oscar fellow really just makes boring music. We need some other guy to step in here who knows what hes doing.
Jesper Kyd would be a good canidate, he can compose beautiful, catchy, and atmospheric music. (See Hitman, Assasins Creed and Freedom Fighters)
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Main Theme (Original) - Arranged by Geoffrey Gunn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mjRZZky084#ws)I guess it sounds rough because it was done through FL Studio, but personally I preferred the original to that. Not a huge fan of the instrumentation of that arrangement.
I wish this piece was in the actual game.
I honestly was expecting something more like this when it came to the arrangements that were to be in Lords of Shadow. I would have been very pleased.
Dracula ~New Classic~ - 03 Beginning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_y0MZGtRdE8#)
i'm just happy it's not "rock music". i groaned when i heard yet another rock sound track being used for Harmony of Despair. The entire OST for HoD is really awful.
Climbing so slowly with shimmying was done in Uncharted just so you can look at the vistas and have higher interactivity with them, but uh, that isn't Castlevania (the I am being slow so I can appreciate the environment). ; - ;
I hope they have more traditional skill-based platforming too. Plus, it would mesh better with the combat and the game won't feel like two games. I mean, I don't mind the gorgeous environments, but it's a bit odd how outside of the platforming, they're really just "paintings."
What I mean is that you're never really forced to do that. You usually move at a constant pace in those games. I don't think there's an equivalent of the platforming in LoS in the classic games to suddenly move along at this drastically slower pace. Like, to appreciate the environment, I rather do it myself without the game forcing me to. That's why I prefer obstacle-based traditional platforming.
Well Dracula needs a new base of opperation since Zobek bust his up, might as well take up residence in a abandoned castle in the outskirts of town.
I seriously don't think the next castlevania will take place in downtown Tokyo or whatever the next setting is.
Plus, Carmilla's castle was never destroyed.
Boring soundtrack, im going to delete it right nao! >:(
Bring Michiru back please!!!
It's amazing how people who apparently love an artist's work are completely oblivious to her current occupations. I'm not even such a fan of Yamane's work (it's good, but I can completely live without it, and I much prefer the Classicvania tunes) and I know she LEFT Konami and isn't planning to work on videogames anymore.were is your CONFIRMED news that she isn't planing on working on videogames anymore?
Mercury Steam couldn't bring her in even if they wanted to.
and I know she LEFT Konami and isn't planning to work on videogames anymore.
She's working freelance. She still does games. Por and ooe are games she worked on after she went freelance.
She's working freelance. She still does games. Por and ooe are games she worked on after she went freelance.yea i thought so lol
As I pointed out, I'm not exactly the biggest Yamane fan; I've read an interview (on Eurogamer, I think) about 3 or 4 years ago about her leaving Konami do "dedicate herself to other things than videogames" and didn't really follow her work after that.we'll bottom line is regardless of you not being a fan you still jumped the gun a bit by saying that she isn't working on videogames anymore without any reliable verification of such.
I was merely musing about the fact that if I know that - as a guy who loves Castlevania but isn't particularly fond of Michiru's work - you would expect someone who's so in love with her music that they would want it in a game where it wouldn't really fit to know better than me.
Point being: I'm glad MS didn't contact her for LoS (I appreciate her work in the Metroidvania games, as the repetitive but catchy tunes work with the game format, but I'll admit I've not been blown away by anything in PoR or OoE, so if she worked on that I'm gonna count myself as even less of a fan) but even if they wanted to, I doubt they could arrange anything at this point.

you should really remember not to jump to conclusions in the future just saying ;)
Yamane and Koyima, the goddesses of Castlevania Music ;)
That's actually NOT the bottom line. It's actually pretty fucking irrelevant with respect to what he was expressing.seems your pissed for somereason :-\

I think Corneliab got what I meant better; once again my point is that if I as a tiepid Yamane fan know about her leaving Konami, people who REALLY like her probably should know too (and probably raged over it in the past). Just that, no bigger meaning.we'll as some have pointed out already after leaving Konami she still composed the music for CVOoE.
I'd have to dig up the article where I read of her leaving, but I do remember it sounding like she was extremely tired of working on videogame music or at least very eager to try something else.
Her working with Konami again past that resolution could mean my memory isn't working well (likely) or that her alternative career didn't pick up and she still needs to pay the bills (wouldn't honestly have a clue). Anyone knows what she did ever since? Did she "break through" in other fields?
Get the chaps who composed the music for Super Castlevania IV if they're still around.
we'll as some have pointed out already after leaving Konami she still composed the music for CVOoE.
read here for some more info on her
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michiru_Yamane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michiru_Yamane)
No real mention of anything she did outside videogames. She worked on a Wii game too apparently, but she didn't do enough games to assume she's still doing videogames as a full career. I'll investigate further.read this one its a much more detailed biography of hers ;)
Much more interesting is the fact that Yuzo Koshiro worked on Portrait of Ruin. And I find the soundtrack for that game bland. I'm starting to question my tastes, cause Yuzo is a Genious (capital included).
I think I read somewhere that they were uncredited. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong?Oh they were credited. They're Masanori Adachi and Taro Kudou. iirc, both of them don't work for Konami anymore.
In case anyone is interested, i think this is her latest Interview:
http://www.squareenixmusic.com/features/interviews/michiruyamane.shtml (http://www.squareenixmusic.com/features/interviews/michiruyamane.shtml)
It covers her most recent works AFAIK, such as the Box Set and the Concert at Stockholm. :)
And my jaw touched the floor... Cox just talked about the sequel and... did you want to see the 1999 game? You're in luck then O.ODavid Cox: @crystos Mwa ha ha I haven't even started yet!! :)

Also, Dracula's Curse reboot! yay Trevor!
E3 is just too F·&$ng far away
David Cox: @crystos Mwa ha ha I haven't even started yet!! :)Yeah because you should toootally trust his words, a twitter sequel confirmation would give Konami's PR department a a heart strike, and we know how afraid Cox is of those people :P
LOL
we'll see if there even "are" other Belmonts in this timeline. It's confirmed tby Cox that Gabriel is not the /only/ Belmont so yeah
No please, let IGA make the 1999 game.
Iga had his chance. Shit or get off the pot, I say.He definitely has had more than enough chances to make it. I just want someone to give us closure on the original timeline already, I would not like MS to make it though. I really don't agree with their new vision of the series at the moment, but I give them credit for finally bringing back the standard Belmont protagonist.

I really don't agree with their new vision of the series at the moment, but I give them credit for finally bringing back the standard Belmont protagonist.I think IGA had his chance, but to some extent, was also limited by Konami. Like I've said before, if there was to be a classic canon 1999, I wouldn't mind if MS and Cox collaborated with IGA. You can tell there's a lot that Cox and ALV(hehehe, I'm using the name) admired about IGA's CVs, considering they gave a lot of easter egg nods to IGA's characters(when they could've very easily chose to make nods to non-IGA CV characters, like Nathan Graves or Reinhart Schneider). It could be interesting to see such a game come out. It could almost be a "CV Dream Team" effort(get Yamane to collab with Arujo, and Ayami Kojima to design the main characters).
I think IGA had his chance, but to some extent, was also limited by Konami.
What are you talking about? He was limited by Konami to tell the story of the Battle of 1999? He totally had a shit load of chances but decided to make Dawn of Sorrow, Lament of Innocence, Portrait of Ruin, Curse of Darkness, Order of Ecclesia, Judgement, Harmony of Despair, etc instead.
You have nobody to blame but Iga himself.
