I'd rather a belated 25th anniversary celebration than a lackluster one
I hope whatever they decide to create that it's of suitable quality to warrant being interested in.

Hey guys, as soon as I find out anything else (and am allowed to post about it) I will let you guys know here first.

Castlevania: Oblivium Sempiternum Daemonis for 3DS, it will be set between LoS & LoS2
Castlevania 1 announced for the E-Shop
New soundtrack composed by Oscar Araujo
Harmony of Despair wallpaper

^That would be awesome
"We are going through approvals"? Happy 27th annyversary then ;D

Full story
When E3 concluded there was a sense of sadness and the beginning of anger amongst Castlevania’s fanbase. That was due to a lack of any sort of announcement for the series’ upcoming 25th anniversary. We didn’t get any new game announcement or a reveal of any compilation to celebrate the occasion, all we got was the revelation that Harmony of Despair would be making its way to PSN.
Since then fans have been left wondering about this total lack of acknowledgement. Has Konami completely disregarded the milsetone of one of the most respected franchises in the world of interactive entertainment? I’m glad to be able to tell you today that Konami is in fact working on something for the series’ 25th.
Speaking with Konami earlier today over this matter and regarding the current uprising of Operation Akumajo which aims to follow the footsteps and dedication of the ongoing Operation Rainfall, I was told: “We are going to do something, we are just going through final approvals on exactly what that is going to be.”
So, what type of project will this end up being? Speculation still won’t cease over this but it’s satisfying to know that we are indeed going to be receiving a game to celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary. E3 may have been quiet in regards to this project but we still got Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show left. Let’s also not forget that we may not end up getting anything directly on time for the anniversary, but perhaps in the months to follow.
This certainly bodes well for all of us. The Tokyo Game Show is about one week ahead of the Anniversary Date 9/26/11 --2 months from tomorrow. That's their last real chance to make an announcement. If the project hasn't been greenlit yet --there's just a couple possibilities...
1. There's a brand new game being planned. No way we see it in time for the Anniversary --depending on what it is, that may not be such a terrible thing....
2. There's an effort to port an existing game into new media. Perhaps even an Anniversary Collection of some sort... This would be diplomatic, but a tad cheap. Considering SotN is already available on PSN and XBLA --AND the Wii has also has most of the old school games available... They don't have a lot of good options left --except porting the GBA/DS games onto home consoles.
3. Worst case scenario is we see ultra-cheap gimmicks like maybe some more DLC for Harmony of Despair --or PSN/Wii/XBLA Castlevania Downloads going on sale...
So it seems we have a couple months to speculate...

I bet for a Castlevania encyclopedia, a concert tour and the announcement of the 3DS game and LoS 2 at Gamescom

Hey, sounds good to me. I'm hoping for some art and music goods to come over here.
I would so buy a CV encyclopedia / "Holy Bible." But I'd have to do it online. Freaking Borders.

Judgement II HD.

Castlevania: Oblivium Sempiternum Daemonis for 3DS, it will be set between LoS & LoS2
Nothing would make me madder >:(
They should actually put Mercury Steam to good use & get them to make a 2D classicvania (in the classic timeline)... because we already know what a HD 2D game from Iga's team looks like & LOS's hand drawn combo animations looked more promising.
Seriously though It would take atleast a Complete compilation of all the castlevania games before LOS to peak my interest
what we will probably get is a figure, cheaply produced artbook or something equally as lame.
-
Judgement II HD.
LoI & CoD Remastered HD collection
or
CV64 & LoD Remastered HD collection
-
I'd appreciate an artbook if it weren't produced hastily like Udon's "Art of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney" in which things were misspelled and mislabeled. And they didn't put much effort into the cover either (though it's nice and textured). But maybe that's because I actually did own the "Art of Gyakuten Saiban" 2-book collection and was able to critique. Castlevania, I'm not too picky about. I'd love something. Heck, even Santa Lilio Sangre released over here (even though it's not specifically CV).
also, I just noticed this.
Castlevania: Oblivium Sempiternum Daemonis for 3DS, it will be set between LoS & LoS2
NO.
-
CV64 & LoD Remastered HD collection
THIS. Or Castlevania 3DS Dracula's Curse.
-
In lieu of this information, I have slightly updated Operation: Akumajo's mission statement regarding the 25th Anniversary. Our demands have not changed. We patiently await additional confirmation on what Konami intends to offer.
-
FINALLY!
Atleast we know that they will not leave us CV fans in the cold for the 25th anniversary.
Now I just hope and pray that they do not let Mecury Studios handle this 25th anniversary game.
Nothing I would hate more then to have 1 of my favorite gaming series 25th anniversary damped by them making a LOS type of game for the anniversary.
Hopefully they have actually been listening to the fans and actually give us either
a.A Castlevania 1 and 2 remake
b.The Demon Castle Wars battle of 1999 game
or
c.A Castlevania Dracula's Curse remake
-
Well, unless the projects are near complete, they ARE leaving us in the cold for the 25th anniversary. That doesn't change a thing. The only difference is that the 26th anniversary might be fun. But still, year 25 is shot. It's like a belated birthday. People might come and visit you a week after your birthday and throw you a party, but that doesn't change the fact that you spent your actual birthday alone.

The worst thing Konami could do to the old-school fans is to announce Lords of Shadow 2 as the Anniversary Gift... Sadly --that's a REAL possibility...

We'll whatever,
Atleast we actually are getting SOMETHING. ;D
I just hope that they bring back Yamane and Kojima for this anniversary title.
-
I don't care what it is as long as it has nothing to do with LoS.
-
I don't care what it is as long as it has nothing to do with LoS.
I totally agree ....
-
Guys, an announcement of LoS2 would make great annyversary news, but of course it just Can't be THE gift, of course the annnyversary thing must me something more, ehm, traditional
-
Good news to hear. I thought maybe there would be something. I hope it's not a LoS sequel announcement. But I still enjoyed LoS. Seemslike there is a lot of hate for it here
-

I don't think its actually "hate" for the LOS game here.
Atleast not from me.
I do not mind LOS2 being announced or whatever.
I just do not want it as the anniversary gift thats all.
That would just completely ruin the anniversary for me.
-
Guys, an announcement of LoS2 would make great annyversary news
Nope. Not at all.
-
I don't know what happened to that 3D sequel of sotn but its the so perfect time to show it
-
Nope. Not at all.
Why not? As I said it could work as a complemnetary announcement, the main one being THE Anniversary game we hope we are getting (and pray God it's not another POR)
-
I don't know what happened to that 3D sequel of sotn but its the so perfect time to show it
I would LOVE to see the supposed Symphony of the Night sequel shown.
But I highly doubt that will happen.
What I would really want for the 25 anniversary would be a HD 2.5D Demon Castle Wars game for the Xbox 360 and PS3 with the metroidvania style of gameplay.
THAT would be just the perfect game IMO.
But if we were to get a CV1,CV2,or CV3 remake then I would still be plenty pleased and happy. ;D
-
Castlevania: Oblivium Sempiternum Daemonis for 3DS, it will be set between LoS & LoS2
Hoo boy I'd love to see some people try to pronounce that in a Gamestop.
I wouldn't mind a LoS2 announcement so long as it's accompanied by either another 2D game (HD doesn't count) or an absolute, blood-brothers, my-mouth-to-God's-ear promise from Cox and MercurySteam that LoS2 will have no QTEs or wall shimmying whatsoever. (This won't happen, but hey, whatever they do can't be worse than Capcom's fuckery, right?)
Something akin to the Mega Man Complete Works book would be awesome too.
-
As much as I would love to see LOS2, I hope it's not that, it should be something special, something that the fans would all love to see. A good old 2D Castlevania game, metroidvania or not.
Besides, Konami will reveal LOS2 for E3 2012 along with the Contra reboot.
-
FUCK YEAH!! :)
What was I sayin', dudes? -> Let's wait and see! We waited and we saw! Now, Konami, don't disappoint us! MAKE SOME EFFIN' GREAT CASTLEVANIA!! :D
-
Castlevania: Oblivium Sempiternum Daemonis for 3DS, it will be set between LoS & LoS2
That actually sounds like it would be the name of a game Tetsuya Nomura would be working on(any Nomura game). He's got a perpetual hard-on for Latin. Versus is proof of that. Characters named Ignis, Noctis, Gladiolus, and a city called Nihilsomno. LOL! I believe, in secret, Nomura's fetish is to dress up in a toga and pretend he's from ancient Rome.
-
CV64 & LoD Remastered HD collection
I would sprout GIGANTIC WOOD if this were to happen. Just model it after Banjo-Kazooie on XBLA; or if they really wanted to go the extra mile, retexture everything like in Perfect Dark XBLA.
-
It was about time, now if there was any kind of encyclopedia, i would gladly buy it, now we have 2 or more months for us to speculate if our dreams will come true or if they will fall to oblivion.......... :P
-
Atleast we actually are getting SOMETHING. ;D
My thoughts exactly.
...well, as long as it's not a total cop-out like new DLC for HD, or something similar.
I'm just glad they're trying to do something late instead of not doing anything at all.
Can't wait to see what it'll be. Konami has been pretty disappointing lately, but I really hope they can start getting fans excited about the series again.
-
IT's 25th anniversary of Castlevania and 20th anniversary of Belmont's revenge, so a new rebirth title would be good.
-
CV64 & LoD Remastered HD collection
That would be pretty awesome.
-
Hoo boy I'd love to see some people try to pronounce that in a Gamestop.
lmao!
Is it normal to be equal parts excited AND scared to see what this is going to bring?
-

This :o
-
lmao!
Is it normal to be equal parts excited AND scared to see what this is going to bring?
We know Konami's ways all too well, don't we? lol
-
I just hope it's not a downloadable thing. I want something physical for my collection.
-
The hope is that it's something that HAS to be big. Remember that one remark about the LoS DLC and Harmony of Dispair port being our 25th anniversary gift from E3? Even if that was false, stuff like that just wouldn't cut it.
-
The 25th anniversay gift:
Everybody gets a poke from from the offical Harmony of Despair Facebook page.
-
I would rather we get some music releases (new arrangements, live recordings), art books, the already mentioned encyclopedia. Also, I really want to see that Dracula`s curse animated movie. I hope the projects gets finished.
I don`t want to buy another new game system to play 1 CV game. And I will not. Anyhow, if I were to choose a new game, I would want to see a 2D game:
1. 1999 game - I want that game, with epic ending. It suits the anniversary and the ending of CV series (which obviously has come to an end....)
2. IGA-Ayami-Michiru threesome
3. Dracula`s curse remake
-

Exactly. You can get away with that sort of thing on a 10th or 20th, but a 25th Anniversary is extremely significant --like a 50th or a 100 year Anniversary... Damn I hope I don't live to be that old... XD
-

If we're going to get a CV3 remake, I don't want it in 2D. I want it in 2.5D. A 2D remake would make me feel like I'm just playing another fan remake of the game again (except obviously with a better engine made. Well, hopefully, since it's Konami making it. >.>) 2.5D would make me feel a lot better about the game.
Let's just hope if they ever do it, they make Trevor like himself in CoD, rather than Judgment (appearances, yeah, but mostly the voice and personality of the character).

I agree ^^^
If we are going to be getting any remakes then I would much prefer to have them in HD 2.5D.
-
Well for the 20th we got that sweet preorder bonus with PoR, so I would hope they do something similar but better.
-
Yaaaay! My faith in Konami has been restored :D

A toga with lots and lots of zippers.
Someone mentioned CV64 and LoD HD, and I'd be all over that.
-
This is VERY good news. I just hope it's not disappointing. IMO, A 25th anniversary needs to cater to the older fans who remember those (or most of those) 25 years.
-
Finally! So they are planning something. But looks like they're still wondering what to give us.I just hope it's not another LoS game. Anything but LoS. A 2D or even 2.5D game would be great. Please Konami don't screw up this anniversary!
-
Hopefully Konami announces something GOOD for the 25th anniversary. I'm excited and am now hoping for something awesome! Hopefully I don't get my hopes up for something awful.
I would love to see the 1999 game or a remake of Dracula's Curse. Really, a remake of any of the old CVs that haven't been remade yet would be nice. ;D

I'm gonna go out on a limb...
Remember how Mercury Steam recently revealed their LoS prototype demo with Simon Belmont? I thought it was a little strange for them to be showing something like that so many months after the game's release, but I really didn't dwell on it. But now I have this nagging feeling... Do you think Konami is working on getting some Simon Belmont DLC for LoS?
Hmmm....
-
Shit....it better not be that. Or at least, not JUST that.

I could be what the next game in the series is going to be. Of course, this is like the beginnings of a very rough draft. Just something that occurred to me.
-
And with Cox's tease about the new engine... that's suspicious..

Oh please god, no no no no NO.
If they focus upon LoS and the new stuff rather than the classics or a balance between the two, this is going to be one disappointing anniversary indeed...
-
thank god, finally someone at konomi is using there brain. masters of the universe is celebrating their 30th anniversary this year and they're going all out for it. I was shocked that castlevania was getting anything. let's hope it's good.
-
Cox's tease
tee hee
-
I recall a lil while back someone asking COX on Twitter if there were any projects in store for the 25th, and he responded, "My team has nothing planned."

Good news.

Presuming he was telling the truth, I imagine a quick phone call from Konami would change his mind. In any case, Konami has not yet made an official announcement about any of this. They just had Comic Con and Castlevania wasn't even on the radar...
-
Its the first time i say "thanks cox" hahahahaha
-

Cox formerly, he told so.... "Gabriel is not Dracula."
-
what I hope to expect (all possibilities edition)
1. Some Wallpapers and Stuff like everyone does
2. LOS2 Teaser Trailer
3. an announcement of HD2 which I hope uses Spriting over 3d word 2.5D (like Hard Corps)
4. Castlevania Trilogy remade in HD and 3DS/Vita
5. Castlevania the Arcade for Wii or Ps3 Move
6. Akumajo Dracula Wars
7. Sweet 25th anniversary merchandise!
8. Trailer to Castlevania 3 animated movie
9. HD remaster of DX chronicles featuring a new 2.5D SoTN for PS3
10. Castlevania 64 3DS (lol, no...maybe LoD but not this...)
11. Castlevania Belmont's Revenge ReBirth
12. Castlevania Judgement 2 not featuring Death Note
13. New 3DS/Vita Castlevania
14. Simon Belmont For SSB4!
15. Richter Belmont for Soul Calibur V!
16. Women of Castlevania Pin-up poster!
that's all I can think of...
-

Yesss! The best news I have heard in a long while!

Cox formerly, he told so.... "Gabriel is not Dracula."
What a guy! I love him!
-
Wait what?
Did Cox say Gabriel is not Dracula or something?
And if so when was this?
-
I don't recall Cox neither confirming or denying that Dracula was in LOS, everytime someone asked if Dracula was in the game he would say "your gonna have to wait and see."
-
You know what would be interesting? Gabriel drawn by Ayami Kojima. He would probably look more or less like the illustration, (with the long wavy hair) but it would be interesting to see her take.

You really can not come to a topic and say stuff like that without giving a reason.

Name says it all
Mean-guy-jones ;D
Seriously though you should lighten up Meanguyjones & join in the "embarassment" instead of being so rude
I'm sure there is something you'd love to see done (or not done) for Castlevania's 25th Anniversary ;)
-
seems a lot of people here want an "art book" of some sort. considering the amount of art books that have been released over the years, i think that'd be a pretty boring & pointless addition for the anniversary (srsly did u guys miss the sotn artbook? the loi artbook? the aos artbook? the por artbook? the dxc artbook? the los artbook? ayami kojima's artbook? how many times do you guys want to see recycled images each year?)
-

Agreed. The same goes for soundtracks. If you don't have the music on your iPod already, do you even really want it?
-
I really REALLY do not want just a wallpaper or soundtrack compilation or anything like that for the anniversary gift.
If they want to include that with the REAL gift then fine but that should not be THE anniversary gift since that would just be cheap and dumb in my honest opinion.
-
A game or anime would be great with me. Heck, even a Manga would be cool. (well, not a one shot thing I mean)
-
NO artbook.
NO soundtrack compilation.
NO movie.
I just want a game! The reason I like video games is because... y'know.. they're video games, not movies or books. I have plenty of those already. Let games be games. :D

Just wait. The celebration will be everything except a game.
...Give the game to WayForward, Konami!

I see your point, but I live in an area where online ordering is tedious in the first place and I am not able to get the items easily. Even though I have most likely seen everything in those books, there is a thrill in having them in a tangible form, which isn't easy for me. I'm still trying to buy Ayami's art book and can't afford it, and I don't have any of the others you mentioned. Also, since you most likely own the books already (I should wager "do," since your collection is so awesome) it isn't too exciting. With "The Art of Gyakuten Saiban" I already owned the 2-book set. So getting the American version, I was like "hmm, I've seen this all before, I think I could have just translated this."
If we did get an artbook, I would want it to be as part of a larger package. I certainly wouldn't want it alone. I don't know what I want for a game because I have so many ideas. But I definitely want one, preferably a collection of some kind! I'll take anything unrelated to LoS.
some of the posts in this topic are truly fucking embarrassing
and tell me, what is so embarrassing about pooling ideas for the 25th anniversary? I think everyone else here had a lot of good ideas. Cutting in with a one-liner that way isn't going to prove much of anything and, if it adds anything to the topic, it's the notion that you're going to sit on this topic with a condescending air, which generally doesn't go over too well.

I'm kind of thinking the same thing. I'd be perfectly happy with another Wiiware title (although I'd prefer physical form with a box and everything, but I digress).
I know it's already been mentioned, but I'd love to see an encyclopedia, just like what they did with the Metal Gear Database. And if they updated it with future games as they were released, even better. This would be an awesome download to supplement an anniversary game.
-
A new WiiWare title would be tiiiiits. I enjoyed the heck out of ReBirth; it's honestly the most fun CV game to come out in a very long time, in my opinion. Best since the N64 games, definitely. I like it old school.
It's already been mentioned a bunch of times, but a WayForward Classicvania 2D sprite game would be amazing, if Contra 4 is anything to go by.
But the year's more than half over. Unless Konami's been working at something for quite some time and just keeping it under wraps, I don't think we'll see anything like a game by the end of this year. An announcement, maybe, but then...what's special about that? It kinda seems like Konami didn't really think this much through and are kinda fumbling last-minute to think something up.
'Course, maybe I'm just not giving them enough cred and they've been brewin' something astronomical this whole time.
-
I don't want anything digital. I want some effin' great physical thingy.
-
I want a new wiiware title. Belmont's Revenge Rebirth would be GREAT. :D

Yes, please.
-
Looks like we can offically rule out Cox's involvement in the anniversary project.
People are asking me about the Castlevania 25 anniversary project. I just want to reiterate what I said, my team has nothing planned.
The anniversary requires lots of planning to do it justice and we don't have the time or resources to do it justice.
Well all of you who were dreading something Lords of Shadow related in the anniversary project can now breathe easy.........for now.
-
Why i do not agree with peoples who want a wiiware game :
1 - bad quality
2 - short game
3 - it wont be that serious to a "celebration"
4 - we had enough of wiiware "psn or XBLA" we need to add something special to our collection !
-
I don't know... Castlevania ReBirth is a very good quality title. It even incorporates oldschool jump physics when you turn on "Classic" mode. As for the graphics, they're actually pretty great.
I do agree that the game is short (that's kinda how it is with oldschool ClassicVania games of the NES/Genesis days).
I also agree that it may not be enough. I think swag to go with a game compilation disc would probably be better.
I also agree that something physical would be better than just a downloadable.
-
MOTHER FUCKIN 1999 BATTLE GAME PLEASE
Seriously though, crossing my fingers for a brand new Classicvania on 3DS. I need my fix of Belmont struttin, a new Rebirth game on the 3DS's eshop would be really nice too.
-
With the slew of old GB games coming out for 3DS, having Adventure, AdventureII, and Legends would be keen-gear.
But what would REALLY rock is if they remade Castlevania as a 3D Classic. Have you guys seen Excitebike and Xevious? Xevious looks AWESOME in 3D.
-
But what would REALLY rock is if they remade Castlevania as a 3D Classic.
I approve of this. Castlevania 1 or 3 in 3D would be a fine purchase, I would not mind paying 3 or 4 bucks for them. Super Castlevania IV 3D would be an instant buy though.
I really hope Konami takes advantage of the eShop, we could see a new Castlevania ReBirth on there.
This news has me very excited, I really thought Konami abandoned us after E3.
-
Eh, I really don't need another remake of the original Castlevania. Even the soundtrack CDs we got earlier are more exciting than that. :-X
-
I wonder if IGA is involved in n e way
a ReBirth title would be neat, considering it'll be a classic & also celebrate Belmont's Revenge anniversary, but that just won't be enough. You guys aren't thinking BIG.
What we need is a BOX SET. A big black box with the CV logo seal on it. Once inside, you'll be treated to several original artwork pieces on index cards by various contributing artists. A "History of Castlevania" leatherbound book will be encased in bubblewrap, and a DVD which contains interviews from various people that have worked on the series, and from other producers from other companies that have been inspired by Castlevania. Throw in some never-before-seen promo artwork/vids in there as well. a cloth that reveals a "map of Transylvania." A CD that follows the process on how some of our fav tunes were created. A new, revised timeline pamphlet that details all the events in CV's history (should look much better than the previous PoR timeline). A download code for HoD for either 360 or PSN. A mini-replica statue of Simon Belmont attacking Dracula. A calender that has artwork from all the games. A shirt with a unique design on it. A preview on what's in store for the series in the years to come. Last but not least, a poster containing brand new art from Kojima which showcases all the Belmonts in various poses, with Dracula's eyes/face looming in the background.

I'd trade all that swag for a brand new state of the art 2.5D Castlevania on a home console --preferably the 1999 Demon Castle War.

This^^^
A 2.5D Demon Castle Wars would be the best Anniversary gift in my honest opinion.
-
b-but that's not very likely..
-
Why not?
-
I like this thread. It's like a compilation of all other threads about Cox, the 25th Anniversary, LoS, Konami, the Demon Castle Wars, but this time, it's FOR REALZ! XD
-
Why not?
uhh that's a no-brainer, i shouldn't have to explain
but I definately expect some type of swag/merch to be released

Yep, this thread is basically a bunch of recycled things that has been said for years now.
so in other words, this thread is......... HARMONY OF DISPAIR!
-

We'll please enlighten me since it is a "no brainer".
I would love to hear why our hopes is "Highly unlikely".

don't try to bait me into one of your long-winded debates DPA
we already know how Konami operates, they flubbed the anniversary already since we're getting something late, so i'm not gonna get my hopes up & pray for a HD 1999 game when it'll probably be something else entirely and a lot less stellar

I want to see official confirmation on what Konami's doing for the Anniversary at the Tokyo Game Show or I'm calling this "Bullshit". Damn that's a long time to wait....

Long winded debates huh lol.
I was simply just asking you to explain your self more thats all.
But excuss me If I still hope and pray that they actually do make a good anniversary game and not just some lame wallpaper, encyclopedia,or a soundtrack compilation.
I want to be optimistic here and hope for the best since this is one of my favorite gaming series and I would like to have something good to celebrate the 25 anniversary.
-
Here's how you celebrate Castlevania 25th;
Two collections:
1) A 3DS Collection with Adventure, Belmont's Revenge, Legends, CotM, HoD, Aos, DoS, PoR and OoE. The gba games should have been reworked into double screen goodness so you can see the map/status at all times.
2) A PS3/360 collection with EVERY other CV on it, including Judgment without wiimote controls.
Had Konami started planning for the 25th anniversary in time, this could've happen. It's the proper thing to do. Will it happen now? Absolutely not.
-
of course i'm not saying i wouldn't want to see it happen, hell yeah i do. but for Konami to suddenly say "hey guys here's your 1999 game you've wondered about since 2003" is raising the bar too high for them, which is why i said it's UNLIKELY but certainly not impossible. so i'm expecting something that'll celebrate this milestone in a more.. material way.
even if they did release a teaser trailer for it, it's definately not coming out anytime soon atleast for another year so it does nothing to celebrate the 25th anniversary anyway. i want them to make something with the anniversary in mind, something that'll reflect upon 25 years of CV.
Besides which is more feasible: piece(s) of memorabilia, ReBirth 2, Dracula's Curse remake for 3DS/classicvania 3DS port, or HD 2.5D 1999 Demon Castle War for 360/ps3?
-
I really hope it's not just a collection. I would like to have a new game AND a collection if possible, a new game alone would be enough for me.
Maybe they're going to remake or make a new Simon Belmont game.
-
why would people want a Castlevania III remake when there's nothing wrong with the original? More advanced graphics doesn't mean it would look better, play as good or be as creative as an actually new Castlevania.
It would probably end up looking and playing bad like that new upcoming Double Dragon remake/spinoff or Turtles in Time ReShelled. Dracula X Chronicles graphics/art style wouldn't do it justice (which contains Kojima's worst character designs, not as bad as the Judgement art done by that other artist, but still doesn't do the original designs justice. Good thing she redeemed herself with the Harmony of Despair versions, but she crossed the line too much with DXC designs, even Dracula shouldn't been altered too much. The original Rondo Dracula actually more closely resembles SOTN Dracula, considering SOTN takes place only 2 years after Rondo. I'd say the only 2 good designs that came out of DXC was Shaft and Succubus Annette.)
While the Castlevania fanbase isn't as large and as loud like MGS fanbase, I think it would be better to push for the 1999 war to be developed than some remake of a classic that people know like the back of their hand.
-
The thing is, if there's a game coming for the anniversary, and it's just beginning production, it will be very, very, very bad.
I bet the anniversary gift won't be game-related at all.
And did you see how Cox called his team his "CV: LoS" team and not MercurySteam? Interesting

I disagree.
There was nothing wrong with with CV1 or CV Rondo of blood but that was no reason to not make a reboot for them right?
Some great games can be made even better as evidenced by Super Castlevania 4 and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles.
If DXC has shown us anything it is that castlevania can work pretty well and look pretty will in 2.5D.
Now that was only for a PSP mind you.
Just imagine it with HD 2.5D graphics complete with the CV3DC gameplay and style on a console like PS3 or Xbox360.
How could CV fan NOT want this would be my question. ;D
-

If there's a game coming for the anniversary, it's NOT going to be released ON the anniversary. It's going to pull a Dissidia. Square announced Dissidia to be released for Final Fantasy's 20th anniversary, but actually delivered it a year late. That's likely to happen here, IF a game is in development.
On thing that would make me laugh my ass off in a crazy maniacal way would be if they announce LoS2, and it's NOT being made by Cox or Mercurysteam, but it being made by Konami of Japan, and is being overseen by IGA. LOL! That would be, in a way, horrible to ALL of us, yet would be bitterly funny. My brain would probably crack in half like a nut, and I'd be shipped off to mental ward.
As for the various things what to expect, I'd actually love ALL of them. I mean, many projects to commemorate the 25th anniversary would actually be fair, considering how important a 25th anniversary IS. Just an artbook or a game wouldn't suffice. Something big. Additional things. A party. A 25th anniversary series of items. Hell, a 3DS game, in addition to another game(be it 3D or 2D), artbook, 25 Year Ultimania-type book, new line of figures and perhaps a new comic series would be fair, IMO. Not that I'm expecting all of that, but that, IMO, would be, pretty much, a fair deal with how big a 25th anniversary is.

Why doesn't Konami do any field trips anymore like they did with CVIII? Some lucky kid won a trip to Dracula's hometown!
Yeah I know it was a sweepstakes, but those are unheard of nowadays
-

I always wondered about things like that. I mean, I recall Nintendo Power holding a Dragon Warrior(Quest) adventure contest where the winner would be given treasures and such, and be taken on their own adventurous quest to battle monsters and such. You think of this stuff, as a kid, and say, "Wow, imagine going on cool quests!", then years later, you wonder what in the heck WERE these quests anyways. I mean, where did they fly these kids to, and how did they set up these adventures for them? Were the quests really cool and worth winning, or were they half-assed, phoney things that were nothing like the games. And what ever happens to those kids who win these things? You always hear about the contests but never hear about the winners. LOL. It kinda makes you wonder if it's just a scam. Though, regarding the CV thing, it would've been funny had they flew the kid to Romania, took him to see the castle, and to this day, the kid, not a grown man, is still chained up to the dungeon wall in one of Dracula's castles. ;D
-
Love how this news brought this place back to life.
I wonder if we'll hear anything at TGS.
-
I wonder if we'll hear anything at TGS.
We'll that is actually the only big event left this year where Konami can announce anything.
So I would have to say yes we should hear something at TGS.
-
what if Konami's just leading us along & completely ignores Castlevania at TGS
i think i'd kill myself
noo better yet, i'd definately destroy my collection & move on with my life, that'd absolutely be the last straw.
-
Well, if this is true, Better late than never.
-
A game or anime would be great with me. Heck, even a Manga would be cool. (well, not a one shot thing I mean)
Yes a manga drawn by Ayami Kojima. That would be great.

Operation: Akumajo.

I'm very curious to see what it could be. I'll admit, I'm hoping it's a new game or at the very least, if it is an older game, an updated, HD version of it.
-

Correction there affinity. SotN takes place 5 years after rondo. Otherwise Maria wouldn't be 17 years old as she was 12 in Rondo.

If Konami did indeed "confirm" a 25th birthday thingy, well... first off
1. We don't need to art book. If you want an art book - go get the fancy awesome expensive paper and print the pictures out yourself and then bind it yourself with your own cover choice. (no offense to anyone! :O)
Edit: Yeah, its probably really expensive. So I guess 1. is out of the picture :P But I do have to admit I do enjoy a lot of the artwork from the CV universe, either the old style from the 80s and early 90s to the SoTN era and above. The art work has always fascinated me because of the 'gothic', 'dark' and 'morbid' atmosphere in which the series has provided all theses years.
2. Another Music CD. Who uses CDs nowadays? Seriously - I don't want to hear Bloody Tears for the 90th fucking millionth time since I was like...7?
Edit: The reason to this is because hearing a tune over and over again for surely gets...old. But that's just the musician in me. I understand that there are a lot of fans out there who still enjoy the original tunes (I do as well, but...wow... you get the idea, I think...)
4. Screw your Wallpaper - make it yourself.!
Edit: It'd be nice to see some interesting designs from the fan base. I know Konami has tried in the past to make some neat ones, especially the Dawn of Sorrow interactive desktop for XP. :)
5. Poster? No thanks, I can easily make one.
Edit: Reason to this – is because well, I can make them! But – It's still good to have a poster to show off fandom, right? ^-^ I still have my CV64 poster from the original guide book :P So, I guess new awesome poster would be nice (:
6. A new game? Sure, but why a remake? Please - I don't want this franchise to turn into another milking clone like MGS or Final Fantasy.
7. Return IGA; they just rebooted and retcon'd 24 years of our childhood and have rebooted the entire franchise. Which don't get me wrong - I enjoy the story of LoS, I just don't really enjoy the fact that they allowed the removing of CV64/CoTM/Legends and then did this? What about the original storyline? What the heck happened to Leon after Mathias escaped? How does Mathias become the true dark lord? What efin' happens to Julius, which leads up to the events in Aria/Dawn? And not to mention: WTF?! OoE just hinted by the binding of Belmont Blood (which can be seen in PoR but hinted very little.) so what the heck happens to Alucard (which wasn't -really- explained during the radio drama) or Shanoa?
So let IGA handle the original storyline and let Cox handle the reboot. I'm sorry - but we seriously need a miracle here and just hope that Konami doesn't crack out ye' ol 50inch spikes of doom from the sky bashes the fans in the heads, thus laughing at giving us another hype up. If they can do it to the child franchise known as Silent Hill or the other elder which is just being milked in the first place for a shitty engine (ps1; i.e Metal Gear Solid.) then honestly - Castlevania needs a perfectly good 25th birthday present and for its fans for all theses years.
So honestly, they need to stop "cox" teasing us. I don't want another lame ass 8-bit Simon Action figure (which honestly was kinda cool.) I really enjoyed the whole victorian era box gift set from the PoR set. I liked the fact they had released a few shirts, and a prop whip (with CV logo on it.) amongst other things, thus showing me IGA at least made the attempt in pleasing the fans with neat gifts and gags; but still - its 25 years so my question for you guys are...
Where
Is
The
Love?
I'll tell you where its as: Operation: Akumajo.
Note: This post has been slightly edited and changed to destroy and die down any profanity in my previous post as respect to the Modz. And of course I didn't really like the fact from a state from a fellow poster below of damaging the operation, which honestly I am happy to be apart of, alas I now feel as if I must walk the path of shame and ruin for almost hurting my fellow crusaders. :(
-
whats with all the profanity cartman?
Do you remember Konamistyle? they've always released some type of preorder swag with each CV game (the only exception was LoS i think). except this time it's the 25th, so who knows if they have something big in mind or we'll just get the usual
-
Sorry if this posted early, I apologize - I simply had seen it when browsing theses post! So if this is a repetitive thing, feel free to remove it mr. mods :)
CastlevaniaLOS David Cox
We are not going to be a part of any potential Castlevania anniversary. I cant be any clearer than that :)
@CastlevaniaLOS David Cox
People are asking me about the Castlevania 25th Anniversary. I just want to reiterate what I said before - My team has nothing planned.
Thank Lisa for that...
...Hey, that can go on your list too. What happened with her and Dracula? How did they meet? What were the real circumstances of her death (sans Succubus)?
Anyways, if Konami did indeed "confirm" a 25th birthday thingy, well... first off
1. We don't need to art book. If you want a fucking artbook - go get the fancy awesome expensive paper and print the pictures out yourself and then bind it yourself with your own cover choice. :P (no offense to anyone! :O)
Easy for you to say. That could end up costing more than I'd pay for one. Not to mention that I have to clean the nozzles in my printer every other time.
2. Fuck another Music CD. Who uses CDs nowadays? Seriously - I don't want to hear Bloody fucking your sister Tears for the 90th fucking millionth time since I was like...7?
Uh... I do.
And really, what's wrong with Bloody Tears?
I totally agree on this point, especially the timeline notion. LoS is a slap in the face to me. But really, you need to chill the heck out. I'm no prude, but you sound like you're ranting instead of giving an honest proposal. I am behind Operation Akumajo 110%, but the way you're presenting this could really undermine the credibility of the movement. If someone were to take a stand and then curse me out, I wouldn't pay attention to him at all.
Just some advice. :)
-
I don't see anything wrong with a "Castlevania Complete Works" style all encompassing art book. Nor do I see a problem with music on a CD.
-

I do not see a problem with it either.
However,
I would have a problem with it if it where the ONLY thing we got for the anniversary and nothing more.
That would suck.

Yeah the profanity really hurts your post quite badly. You're acting like AVGN trying to get attention by being foul-mouthed. It doesn't suit you, man.
I won't remove your post, and I can respect your opinion, but foaming off at the mouth like a child will not help you make your case here.
And I still use CD's. Just got one in the mail for purchasing Ocarina of Time 3D.
-
I use CDs too. Not to listen to, but to have a hard copy back up in case my iPhone and the iTunes on my computer get wiped out. If we do get an album, Konami should just make it available on iTunes. This way everyone can get it easily and if you don't have an iPod or iPhone, you can burn the songs on to a blank CD if you have a CD burner in you computer.
Don't get me wrong, I want a game as much as anyone. But I could live with a "Castlevania Complete Work" if that's all we got.

Thanks Jorge. I apologize for any profanity - if any visitors and readers are offended by my mentions on this post for option - please do not hesitate and send me any msg's regarding the aspect and I will be more than happy to censor or remove the post to a more mature matter.

I don't see anything wrong with a "Castlevania Complete Works" style all encompassing art book.
I'd want to see a COMPLETE complete works of CV art. No BS. I hate when companies release complete works of various games, but don't release ALL of the art in those works, then later down the line, they release a new version of the complete works with MORE "previously unreleased" designs(like alternate designs and unreleased sketches). None of that, "Oh, there's a few things we didn't include that's in the CV vault!". EVERYTHING! Every monster, every character, every item, background concept art(even for the older games, as I'm sure it exists), the whole deal! Square is pretty good a BS-ing with art. It wasn't until the release of Amano's Sky artbook collection that MOST of his FF work was actually allowed to be shown to the public, especially designs that most people never even knew existed. I still hope, one day, they release an "Complete Collection" artbook of FFVII, which includes all art, even for minor NPCs(Mr. Coates, Ester, Dio, Johnny), scrapped ideas(female Sephiroth, Jenova's cloaked body parts, Cobalt and Indigo) and Nomura's pre-production art for Sakaguchi's original characters(Detective Joe, Nicholas the Needle,...).
-
CDs are the shiiiiiiznit. I rip 'em right away and throw 'em on my iPod, but yeah, I still like having a physical product, looking at the art, credits, lyrics and such. An iTunes PDF just isn't the same. :O
But, I have no idea what music we'd hear if Konami were to release an album. I don't want to hear special arrangements and stuff... Those rarely interest me. Though it would be cool if they'd reprint and make available in the US some of those really rare albums like the Perfect Selection Dracula Battles. That would be sweeeeeeet. o.o Heck, I'd even be cool with iTunes releases of those.
-
I'd love an official Castlevania Symphonic Concert on CD
-
I would take a compilation of every Castlevania title from every system on 1 blue ray all remastered. Though I doubt that's going to ever happen...a brand new 2D game for next generation systems is what I think everyone really wants.
-
I honestly do understand all this love for Castlevania's music BUT the fact is that most of the music ever produced for Castlevania is a mouse-click away. Although special arrangements --even a live concert would be wonderful --are we really so cheap to be satisfied by a few MORE remixes of Vampire Killer and Bloody Tears? If you wanna hear some remixed music, Rebirth is on the Wii, and Harmony of Despair is just weeks away if you don't already have it. I'd rather see a brand new game with a good 25-30 tracks of fresh melodies to enjoy.
-

I agree.
Or a remake with a good 20-25 remastered tracks.

A port of Akumajo Dracula: The Arcade would be neat (it'd give me a reason to purchase a ps3 Move). They can also update it & make enhancements if necessary. It's prolly the 1 game nobody on this board has played yet..

I can almost smell it... exclusive gold anniversary Castlevania: De$pair, eco-friendly edition (recycling all the way) with alucard skin for both consoles :-[
Ok now seriously, they owe use something great
-
Wouldn't a "game of the year" edition of LoS be a terrible 25 anniversary? Just the game with the 2 DLC's? What a nightmare....
$5 bucks says that they will give PSN people HoD and call it a day....
-
A special "Castlevania" edition of a console would be pretty sweet. They could release several of them, each with a different character on them or something. :)

I'm sure I'll LOVE playing Harmony of Despair, so let's get that out of the way. BUT HD is the most colossal monument of cannibalized code, recycled sprites, and copy/paste levels in all of Castlevania (and that's REALLY saying something). Shamelessly cheap production values have put 2D Castlevania in the gutter --and if they do package HD as the Anniversary gift, it would be a perfect opportunity for us to drive the issue home. Xbox players, who bought the game a year ago, would also be left in the cold --and let's not forget the Nintendo loyalists with their 3DSs and Wiis... Any real Anniversary MUST be a multi-platform effort.

I can almost smell it... exclusive gold anniversary Castlevania: De$pair, eco-friendly edition (recycling all the way) with alucard skin for both consoles :-[
Ok now seriously, they owe use something great
Actually, the 25th Anniversary is the Silver Anniversary. The Golden Anniversary is 50 years. :)
Yeah, I already have my Alucard theme on my 360. I wouldn't need another one. No wallpapers, no themes/skins, especially not on their own. Harmony of Despair would NOT be a good present on its own. At least they did introduce Simon as DLC. I have him, he's a good character and adds a lot of variety to the game, which is monotonous on its own.
Wouldn't a "game of the year" edition of LoS be a terrible 25 anniversary? Just the game with the 2 DLC's? What a nightmare....
$5 bucks says that they will give PSN people HoD and call it a day....
Oh my god, that's even worse. If that happens I will have lost all hope in humanity (beginning with Konami) and perhaps myself! Given that it's a reboot of the saga and not even part of series canon, I wouldn't consider that an anniversary at all!
-
Here's what I'd like to see them do: Put out a Castlevania 25th Anniversary Retrospective Box Set. It'd include on one or two discs all the NES, SNES, Genesis, GB, GBA, N64, PCE, and PSX games. Basically games that are hard to find and that most fans have to resort to using emulators to be able to play. They could have graphics filters or use minor graphical retouching for them so they look a little better on modern setups, have menus that file the games by system, and have some sort of information (or perhaps interviews with the producers/creators) about the making of the games.
What this would do is make the older back catalog readily available. Konami gets to cash in on previous hits and the community has a standard of being able to play the older games on newer systems without having to resort to emulation. This might not even have to be made a physical release, they could do it on PSN, XBL, and whatever the online marketplace for the Wii is, though a physical release WOULD be pretty cool.
And at the same time, they could be preparing for the next original 3D release.
-
Here's what I'd like to see them do: Put out a Castlevania 25th Anniversary Retrospective Box Set...
Amen.
-
Honestly, I don't know what I would be happy with them doing for a 25th Anniversary. All of the classics have been available for a while on Wii and they've given us Symphony of the Night too much times already. I wish they had a new game ready like they did for Portrait of Ruin. That was a real surprise, showing up to pick up my pre-ordered game and receiving that really cool package.
It's tough to consider. I agree with everyone that it needs to be cross platform, but now that Castlevania is technically across five platforms. Even if we limit it to just the Wii, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, only two of them are alike enough to have like packages...
-
How about a Castlevania Documentary on blueray/dvd? It could have plenty of interviews, never-before-seen footage of our favourite games being in development, cancelled games, cancelled pitches, secrets, artwork, stuff... Maybe someone already mentioned something like that?
-

I think this is my favorite idea yet!
-
I just want a game worth my time....
-
I just want a game I could play without having to own a Wii/360/PS3/3DS/Vita.
-
I just want a game I could play without having to own a Wii/360/PS3/3DS/Vita.
...So a DS/PSP game? Either that or Mobile Phone.
...No, sir. Console game would be the best choice for an anniversary gift...
-
I agree.
And I highly doubt that Konami would even consider making a CV anniversary game without Xbox360,PS3,3DS,or the Wii in mind.
Its just not logical lol.
-
I'm sure I'll LOVE playing Harmony of Despair, so let's get that out of the way.
I suggest they get to working on Castlevania HD2 which should use Aksys Graphics (like Hard Corps: Uprising) in the Ayami Kojima or OoE style art direction.
If they do that, and overhaul the "leveling" for Skill Based Characters as well as overhaul Some characters to play more like thier original DS counterparts, the game could be sold XBLA or on Disc and probably make ALOT or money.
-
...So a DS/PSP game? Either that or Mobile Phone.
...No, sir. Console game would be the best choice for an anniversary gift...
I agree... This is really a dilemma for me, since I don't own any video game console anymore.
-

Not Konami's problem. Just buy the damn console they release the game on.
-
Not Konami's problem. Just buy the damn console they release the game on.
Times be hard, and not everyone can afford them. I no longer have a next-gen console since my 360 crapped out.
Then again, I'm still not really complaining.

That sounds excellent. I'd especially love to see something like that packaged with a game, if possible. It would be a pretty rare opportunity to see Konami offer up so much info to the fans about the behind-the-scenes stuff that's gone on with the series. Great way to celebrate its history, too.
-
A lot of staff of Konami have already left the office. And, Konami doesn't reveal a former employee. IGA did not open founder's staff's name to the public.
All interviews will become IGA.
XD
-
Sorry to say this but, Xbox360 and PS3 are nowhere close to Next-gen, sure its had a good run but they were out of Date since 2007.
-
never-before-seen footage of our favourite games being in development
But I already know how copy and paste works ;D
Seeing unseen concept art & design docs would be pretty cool, I'd be hoping for something more comprehensive than mario's 25th Anniversary though.
-
And, Konami doesn't reveal a former employee.
I did wonder about this a bit. It would be nice to see them gather past employees to talk about their experiences, influences, etc., but also an impossible dream I guess.
-

:o Outdated by what?
-

Please explain exactly how they are outdated?
Because last I checked a PS4 or Xbox720 has not been released yet.
So until that happens it IS still a Next Gen system and it IS NOT outdated. ;)
-

And even then they still won't be outdated. Not until PS4 and Xbox720 are lowered in price and everyone stops using them.
I need to stop calling PS3 and Xbox360 next-gen. They're the new current-gen...
-
Times be hard, and not everyone can afford them. I no longer have a next-gen console since my 360 crapped out.

Again, not Konami's problem. They're not charity, they're a company that sell games.
-

1) It's only natural for people to want a new game to be on a system that they actually own.
2) Did you not see the part where I said, "Then again, I'm still not really complaining."?
-
I want some 2D action Metroidvania or Classicvania to be NOT on a handheld.
-
Just something I'd like to point out....
Is anyone else concerned that NONE of the major media have confirmed this news with Konami? It's nearly been a week and neither IGN nor 1up have picked up on this story...
-
1) It's only natural for people to want a new game to be on a system that they actually own.
2) Did you not see the part where I said, "Then again, I'm still not really complaining."?
1) Yeah, why they don't release a new Castlevania for me to play in my SNES or my Mega Drive? =/
2) Yeah, I know you're not complaining. Doesn't change what I said.
-
Sorry to say this but, Xbox360 and PS3 are nowhere close to Next-gen, sure its had a good run but they were out of Date since 2007.
I'm not really following the jab you're trying to deliver here. Are you about to insinuate that the Wii is somehow superior to said consoles? Cuz last time I checked, the Wii really is only a motion controller away from being a LAST-gen console. ;)
-
I guess he just means they're current-gen. Next-gen is such an awful buzzword anyway.
-

Besides, I doubt gaming development is as "open" as movie development. You get a lto of behind-the-scenes footage documentaries for movies because a sometimes the director or producer brings their camcorders along to document the creation process, and those are vaulted, then brought out whenever they choose to do a doc, though, with DVD/Blu-Ray extra features, it's become more a normal thing(they usually shoot behind-the-sceens footage solely for the dvd/blu-ray releases). Games, I can't imagine a staff member running around with a camcorder as people are programming and such. ESPECIALLY in Japan.
-
I guess he just means they're current-gen. Next-gen is such an awful buzzword anyway.
True it may not be next gen anymore but it certainly is not out of date by any means.
Like I said those 2 will not be "out of date" until their newer counterparts (Xbox720 and PS4) are released.
-
1) Yeah, why they don't release a new Castlevania for me to play in my SNES or my Mega Drive? =/
2) Yeah, I know you're not complaining. Doesn't change what I said.
*sigh*
I'm not arguing with this anymore, since you don't quite seem to get it. -_-
True it may not be next gen anymore but it certainly is not out of date by any means.
Like I said those 2 will not be "out of date" until their newer counterparts (Xbox720 and PS4) are released.
Not even then. It's like how the PS2 wasn't out of date til all the game companies stopped making games for it, and moved on to higher consoles.
-
I think PS2 is a exception obviously.
Considering it was voted as best gaming system and the fact that it had alot of 3rd party support.
Thats why It was able to last so long after the release of the PS3 and other next gen consoles due to its sheer popularity.
But the Xbox and Gamecube for instance did not get the same treatment and thus became "outdated".
-
1) Yeah, why they don't release a new Castlevania for me to play in my SNES or my Mega Drive? =/
You forgot the fact that the SNES and MegaDrive were dead for a long time ago, whereas The DS and PSP are still alive.

Name 2 worth while games each for the PSP and DS in the last 6 months.

Xbox had the potential to be as popular as the PS2, but Microsoft was all retarded about it and cut it off.
Gamecube had better graphical capabilities than the other two (Resident Evil 4 was proof). Sadly, disk space was scarce in comparison. I'm guessing it didn't have enough 3rd party support?

PSP: Sengoku Basara Chronicle Heroes and BlazBlue Continuum Shift II (I believe the ladder was within 6 months. Correct me if wrong)
DS: Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2 and er... Well, I'm stumped here. >.>

Okamiden.
-
Did Okamiden come out within the last 6 months?
-
It did, in north America.
-
BlazBlue Continuum Shift II
I don't believe I can accept that one. Not only is it a port, but a pretty shoddy one at that. It does have loads of content, but the gameplay is laggy, choppy, and performs substandard to a game of any expectation. Not only that, the controller options are down right ridiculous. They wont even let you use the Analog EVEN ON THE 3DS VERSION. No circle pad what so ever.
Sengoku Basara Chronicle Heroes
Haven't played it. No clue.
Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2
Not really a fan of FATLUS games. May or may not count depending on how straight you are.
Then again, is it even out? Wiki tells me it was announced in March 2011. (note we are sticking to ONE regional release zone here)
Okamiden.
Yeah, that actually makes the 6 month mark for the USA release.
-
BlazBlue: I haven't played the original console version, so I wouldn't know. I liked the PSP one.
Sengoku Basara: It's worth it.
Devil Survivor 2: You never said where. Now that you did, looks like I gotta find something else. >.> Guess this applies to the one above then.
-
How about Dragon Ball Kai: Ultimate Butouden for the DS. It's in Japan only though.
-
Aren't you guys kind of getting a little off topic now
-
So, how 'bout them 25th anniversary ideas?
-
So, in other word you mean the DS and PSP were already dead?
We have a few games coming to DS (mainly first party, like Kirby, Layton 4 and some 3rds), and I know some announces can still be made for it (localizations of games that are released already in Japan, like Ninokuni, Ace Attorney 2...). But what you guys have to understand is that the DS isn't simply the actual platform. The 3DS is already there, you guys like it or not. It makes more sense for them to release it there.
The PSP is still going strong in Japan, so that can be a platform of choice. But it's already dead in the west, people don't buy games for it in the west, even if the hardware sells.
And Wiiware is limited crap. Yeah, we saw Rebirth and such... but it could be even better if they released it on PSN/XLBA.
So yeah, they'll release the game where they think they can make more money from.
-

Yeah, It does makes sense for them to release the game (IF they ever gonna make one for the 25th Anniversary) to the new-current gen handheld/console.
-
You never said where.
I'm running with USA releases, since Pemburu Vampir shoe horned in Okamiden with it. Either way though...
You really should try the console version of BlazBlue. It's far superior in just about every fashion.
-

I'd imagine. The only other version I've played of BlazBlue is the arcade version, though not for long since I'm (gasp) poor.
I'll buy it eventually, since I don't like forking out money for fighting games (I tend to get bored quickly with them unless I'm playing with someone else).
-
I knew it !!! i'm pretty sure that we're gonna get CV 5 yep and why not CV 5 !!
-
Because Castlevania III and IV are a lie.
-
Castlevania 3DS: Dracula's Curse Chronicles
-
It probably won't be the tribute for the 25th Anniversary, but current 3DS owners will be able to download 10 free NES games on August 12th when the 3DS drops in price. The full list of games hasn't been announced yet but it's possible Castlevania could appear.

Castlevania 3: Dracula's Sonata.

people want Castlevania 3 remake.....
even if it delays the 1999 Demon Castle War? ;D
-
I want a BRAND NEW game with Simon and a talking horse! Make it happen Konami! lol

What i really want to see is the Demon Castle War in game form. If not that then a Dracula's Curse remake.

Castlevania 3Dracula's Curse

lol ;D

As much as I want to see the 1999 game as much as everyone else, I'd rather get a Draculas Curse remake. It's my favorite game of all time and I think it's due.
-

A Dracula's Curse remake would have been the perfect way reboot. Anyone with the faintest grasp of the mythos would have started there. And that leads me to wonder who dropped the ball? Was it the suits at Konami of Japan? Kojima Productions? Mercury Steam? or was it all Mr Cox's doing? In any case, the Demon Castle War should have finished the existing continuity before rebooting the whole thing.
-
Dracula's Curse is already perfect as it is.
-
Yea but that does not mean it can not be improved.
Just look at Rondo of Blood for example.
Another game that was just perfect the way it was and was made even better by getting a 2.5D facelift.
-

Agreed we've come along way since the NES --Dracula's Curse was really ahead of its time. And if Konami is ready to get serious about rebooting, there would be no better starting point for noobs to join the cult of Castlevania.
-
What i really want to see is the Demon Castle War in game form. If not that then a Dracula's Curse remake.
Welcome to the club. :P

I still say that Konami will stick to the LoS realm for now, for continuity sake (and sales)
-
I still say that Konami will stick to the LoS realm for now, for continuity sake (and sales)
I HIGHLY doubt that they will go the LOS route with this anniversary game.
After all its supposed to be a anniversary celebrating all the classic years of Castlevania not a celebration of the newer titles (LOS).
So it would be downright stupid for them to go the LOS route for the Anniversary.
But after the anniversary that is another story...
-
Castlevania 3: Dungeons of Sex
RoboCop - I'd buy that for a dollar! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-q29hbEP04#ws)
-

Because last I checked a PS4 or Xbox720 has not been released yet.
So until that happens it IS still a Next Gen system and it IS NOT outdated. ;)
Crysis for the PC released in 2007, which KILLED the Xbox360 and PS3 at every aspect.
the problem? Consoles are supposed to at least last 5 years before PC crushes them, this is less than 1 year after xbox360 released.
the Verdict is Crysis is STILL imposible on the Xbox360 and PS3, whilst Half-life eventually did get a console port in the same Gen.
the Reason is the console specs are so minimalist the $350 price tag was 90% profit.
the Xbox360 and PS3 would have had a fighting chance if they were given more RAM and VRAM which was more than possible at that time.
-

This is true. I remember hearing that Hideo Kojima who was producing MGS4 at the time, seriously overestimated the PS3's capabilities and as such, was forced to 'cut down' on MGS4 somewhat so it would be playable on the PS3.
-
I still say that Konami will stick to the LoS realm for now, for continuity sake (and sales)
No, the LOS saga will take a back seat for the Anniversary, Im sure Konami will focus on the classic continuity and give the longtime fans what they want.
-
Fun fact: MGS4 doesn't even render in widescreen. They had knock the resolution down to a standard ratio, and stretch it out to fill the screen.
-
What would be perfect CV anniversary titles for me?
Well, Symphony of the Night 2,5D remake with new added levels (like in Saturn version, but with more originality) and Richter in his Kojima costume. And more difficulty in the second castle.
And CastleVania 64 (not LOD) HD remake. New textures. Restored storyline (what they wanted to do initially before all the cuts, but without Simon Belmont and Maria Renard). Cornell with melee fighting style. And Corler as a secret character. Or at least as a playable character in the resored storyline.
Of course this will never happen.
-
honestly, i wanna see a console version of HoD, it would have been much better than SoTN if it weren't held back by the technology IMO
-
So it would be downright stupid for them to go the LOS route for the Anniversary.
Stupid yes, out of character for Konami as of late, no. But here's hoping my cynicism proves false.

Except for the fact that VERY few people will pay $60, or even $50 for a 2D oldschool remake. $15 DL'able title is the way to go.

They could always do it in the same manner they did DXC by including 3 games in 1.
1 game is the main 2.5D Dracula's curse.
While the other 2 are the classic Dracula's curse and some other CV game.
I'd be willing to bet that fans would atleast pay 50$ for something like that.

I already own the original old titles, and playing the roms is ridiculously easy. Plus, there is no way that Nintendo would allow the original Cv3 to be released for anything other than a Nintendo system. As far as I know, Nintendo has a contractual strangle hold on any game released on any of their systems. I lack a Wii, so here's hoping that it releases on XBLA and PSN.
-

people paid $65 for Harmony of Despair and all the DLC when it came out, and there was barely any new resources used in that game.

Not everyone has illegal roms to play....
And also what do you mean by Nintendo will not let Konami release original Castlevanai 3 Dracula's Curse?
How does that work exactly?

Rest assured. Your cynicism is justified.
But since Cox has backed out of the anniversary, things seem to be looking up - but we can't be too sure yet.
-
I still say that Konami will stick to the LoS realm for now, for continuity sake (and sales)
Please no. Wherever LoS's story is headed is going to be nothing short of retarded and amateur writing.

This. Oh... --and 2.5D...
2D > 2.5D
Unless the 2.5D uses sprites.
-
2D > 2.5D
Unless the 2.5D uses sprites.
I disagree.
And one of the main reason is that 2.5D eliminates 1 thing that has always plagued the 2.D castlevania games and that is sprite recycling.
-
I disagree.
And one of the main reason is that 2.5D eliminates 1 thing that has always plagued the 2.D castlevania games and that is sprite recycling.
That's has nothing to do with 2.5D. They can always make new sprite art. And a good sprite art > any 3D model.
-
That's has nothing to do with 2.5D. They can always make new sprite art. And a good sprite art > any 3D model.
uhhhh why doesn't it?
Like I said 2.5D completely eliminates the option of using recyled sprites while regular 2.D could still end up using recycled sprites.
They could make a new list of sprites if they wanted to but lately they have not bothered to.
Thats why I think it would be better in 2.5D.
CVDXC looked pretty darn good graphics wise and that was only on a handheld.
Just imagine how good they can make a 2.5D CV game on something like the Xbox360 or PS3.
Its just a matter of personal taste I guess.
Don't get me wrong I love the regular 2D graphics such as Castlevania Symphony of the Night for example.
But I just think that 2.5D obviously takes it to a better level of greatness.
-
Castlevania Chronicles: Dracula's Curse would be an excellent 2.5D launch title for the PSVita
However, an original game using 2D spritework with parallax backgrounds (think Strider 2 with crispier graphix) would also be excellent for the 3DS
And MercurySteam can continue work on Gabriel's Epic Journey for PS3/360
-
2D > 2.5D
Unless the 2.5D uses sprites.
Either way the gameplay would be 2D. Although HD sprites could be an awesome sight for Castlevania, my main concern is that Konami would continue leaning toward the lazy, anime art instead of the more refined work we've seen from Ayami Kojima. 3D modeling in HD would enforce a certain level of artistic sophistication and detailing that sprite art has the luxury of ignoring.
-
Konami has demenstrated time & again their inability to kick the habit of recycling old sprites, there is no greater example of this than Castlevania Harmony of Despair.
You know what might be interesting?
A 2D game with hand painted backgrounds & characters animated in fluid 3D.I've seen point and click adventure games that do this & they look pretty neat. Most games the other way around (hand drawn/sprite characters & 3D backgrounds) tend not to mesh together very well even though there are some pretty good games that do adopt it.
Out of curiosity do we have more than one source yet that confirms Konami has plans for the Anniversary?
-

Just imagine how good they can make a 2.5D CV game on something like the Xbox360 or PS3.
Its just a matter of personal taste I guess.
Don't get me wrong I love the regular 2D graphics such as Castlevania Symphony of the Night for example.
But I just think that 2.5D obviously takes it to a better level of greatness.
They can reuse assets from DXC. It doesn't eliminate shit.
Just because they had been recycling the sprites from Rondo, doesn't mean that if they get a decent budget they can't make new ones.
I don't think DXC looks that good, anyway. The original looks better IMO.

Like I said its a matter of personal taste and differing opinions.
So lets just leave it at that shall we.
Also Cecil made a good point.
-
The same point can be made about 3D modelling. Just because it's 3D modelling, doesn't mean the end result will be good looking.
-
Out of curiosity do we have more than one source yet that confirms Konami has plans for the Anniversary?
I mentioned this a page or two back... NONE of the major gaming media have picked up on this story, nor has Konami come out to make an official statement on the matter. IGN is usually very good in its Castlevania coverage, so I'm shocked that a week has actually passed without them attempting to verify this news. If Konami is indeed working on something, this info was no doubt leaked to pacify us --and if that's true, Konami may not comment on "rumors" until they are officially ready to make an announcement. I looked around on IGN's site, but I couldn't find a particular contact there for any sort of investigative news.

Symphony HD sprited to look incredibly detailed, would rock better than 2.5D.
id take either tho

I'd rather take a 2.5D remake. Rondo looked fantastic, I think, and had some great back ground detail. As much as I like 2D sprites, I just think Symphony in 3D would look great. Plus it would go nicely with DXC rondo.
in fact it would be great if they rereleased the Dracula X Chronicles version of Rondo with a 2.5-D remake Symphony so they go well with each other. But we'll probably never see that.
-
The only problem with Rondo(DCX 2.5 Ver.) was that the small cut-scenes looked tacky up close, considering those models weren't made for close-ups. Though, if they make a new 2.5D CV, I'd reckon they'd learn their lesson, and maybe invest a little more into the texturing so pieces in the background don't look like someone used to "blur" tool in Photoshop.
-
I don't think they have the sprite artists capable of creating HD Symphony sprites that retain or improve upon their detail. I always found the animation in DXC kinda floaty, lacking in weight, too. The aesthetics for DXC itself were kinda muddy and bland for the most part too. It was good, just not particularly inspired. Rondo sported a lot more personality even with its inherent limitations.
I guess in any case, I'd like something in 2.5D, just with better art direction and animation.
-
How about Lords of Shadow in 2.5D.
-
LOS done as a 2.5D game? heh I would find that pretty ironic after what was said about 2D not being marketable or whatever during it's development.
...And if your suggesting a 2.5D Lords of shadow game for the 25th Anniversary than I reckon your just plain crazy
that would be like rubbing salt in the wound for those of us who aren't 100% behind Konami's little reboot.
-
Since 2.5D will be more convenient, How about a Chronicles that covers the NES trilogy
on a full console release you'll get 6 games for $10 each, and the NES games alone are about that much anyways
Castlevania Chronicles Trilogy
-
All (most) games on a couple disks sounds cheap and easy to do. Emulation ahoy!
-
OR save the money for a more carefully and freshly developed castlevania game, I'd like to see a very prioritized game rather than anything rushed..patience is better than experiencing disappointment, though I don't trust the game developers skills as far as it concerns CV..
-
I mostly hope that we won't get the Mario treatment, All Stars for the
SNES WII!
-
^^^ I would've been more behind the All-Stars for the Wii had they included updated versions of the Super Mario Land games, as well as including Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island. THAT would've been a great anniversary gift of the Wii.
-
I think it would be better in 2.5D.
CVDXC looked pretty darn good graphics wise and that was only on a handheld.
Actually the graphics were really stiff and animations really jerky compared to 2-D sprites.
metroidvanias graphics, smoother animations and artistic atmosphere mop the floor with DXC's puppet models and cardboard enviornments. Compare SOTN Richter with DXC Richter, SOTN Richter looks, moves and works much better in 2-D gameplay overall.
and 2.5D always run the risk of bad hit detection, slower actions, bad animations (like Reshelled and the 2.5d Golden Axe remake in a Sega collectors edition) and other things that make it inferior to 2-D visuals. Unless the Super Smash Bros Brawl team worked on the graphics, 2.5D Castlevania wouldn't represent the series as good as 2-D. Even recycled sprites is more welcome than 2.5D visuals that try to look pretty but trip in every other category of the graphics and gameplay.
-
Well that is all just a matter of differing opinions.
I thought it played pretty great and so did others judgeing by the good reviews from many established gaming sites.
And the graphics where good for it being on a handheld which significally has less power then consoles like Xbox 360 and PS3.
I just think everything can be greatly improved upon if it they where to make it for systems like Xbox 360 and PS3 which both have the power of HD.
No matter what anyone sais I think a HD 2.5D XBOX360 and PS3 castlevania is the way to go for the next CV title.
-

Actually, once in a while Konami should make a departure from sprites. Not permanently, but occasionally would be nice. There's also the problem with ratings. The typical rating magazines will eventually (EVENTUALLY, but maybe not far off) rate it down because it has 2D graphics. While that's not us voting it down, that's what Konami will notice.
The series has to keep trying with 3D and 2.5D, in my opinion. In my opinion, a 2.5D game would be hell of a lot nicer than a 2D game for our anniversary gift.
No matter what anyone sais I think a HD 2.5D XBOX360 and PS3 castlevania is the way to go for the next CV title.
I agree.
-
They shouldn't cater to reviewers because if anything, 2.5D downgrades the overall quality and gameplay. DXC doesn't flow and feel nearly as good as SOTN, OoE, HD or any other 2-D Castlevania.
Unless they can get a new 2.5D art team to make it look and flow as good as Valkyrie Profile Silmeria 2.5D models and 2.5D areas,
Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria #38 - Crawsus Forest Ruins (1) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2L4Oz26gVnY#)
they might as well reuse or make new generation of well designed sprites (but of course not exaggerated like Dragon's Crown sprites.)
Dragon's Crown: Official Trailer (E3 2011) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a_g7lUliQU#ws)

The reviewers are what they see first. If they see their games received low ratings, then we're pretty much screwed.
And DXC feels MUCH better than any of the games you listed (except SotN). OoE just felt weird. The environment was kinda gave an odd vibe. HD was a recycled mess (though still a great game), and it didn't give off any particular feel.
I know DXC flows and feels much better than coughHarmonyofDissonancecough.
-
The reviewers are what they see first. If they see their games received low ratings, then we're pretty much screwed.
Exactly.
And also there is a good ammount of fans that like the 2.5D style of gameplay so its not like all the fans think the same as you affinity.
Like I said its just a matter of differing opinions and as I've pointed out countless times IT WAS FOR A HANDHELD.
If you honestly think that the quality will be the same if it where on a much more powerful system like Xbox360 and PS3 then your sadly mistaken.
-
How about Lords of Shadow in 2.5D.
No. The anniversary game should not be based on LoS at all.
Welcome to the club. :P
heh, thanks :P
-
It'd be pretty bad if DXC can't even represent the weight of the floaty DS games and Harmony of Despair!
Good thing that isn't true, even if it's by the aspect of its physics being derived from RoB rather. In addition to that, the game had a much more consistent and cohesive presentation than any of the DS titles, unlike say, the many stylistically different areas in OoE or the great Lost Village in DoS being neighbored by number of banal farts. In regards to visual feedback and collisions, I never had much problem with DXC, not any more than any of the DS titles anyway. If anything, it was more forgiving than the original Rondo most of the time.
I know DXC flows and feels much better than coughHarmonyofDissonancecough.
no harmony of dissonance is great. stop it.
The physics are a quirky combination of both SoTN's and the classicvania's. It does this much better than CoTM. It still conveys a sense of weight (albeit floaty, similar in concept to Alucard's weight and litheness) that became absent with the introduction of AoS. The way Juste attacks while jumping is just the best thing to come out of it. It's strange compared to other 'Vanias, but it rarely detriments the game. It embellishes on the surreal and bizarre tones of the game. It's personality. It's just delicious.
harmony of dissonance bff
-
Please no. Wherever LoS's story is headed is going to be nothing short of retarded and amateur writing.
Because original CV timeline is a masterpiece of writing?
Just because they had been recycling the sprites from Rondo, doesn't mean that if they get a decent budget they can't make new ones.
The same point can be made about 3D modelling. Just because it's 3D modelling, doesn't mean the end result will be good looking.
They've recycled sprites even before decline of the series, when they supposedly had enough budget to not resort to recycling. It's basically in Konami's nature to recylce CV sprites. At least 2.5D game will be something new and fresh. I don't believe Konami will give enough money to fund CV with true HD graphics.
Even recycled sprites is more welcome than 2.5D visuals that try to look pretty but trip in every other category of the graphics and gameplay.
Yeahhh....because ~10 years wasn't enough too delight in quality of the same brand old sprites, some of which were used since ROB for no defined reason.
No thanks. 2.5D for me anyday. Even if the game will be average it will be welcome departure from the old ones. And it preserve "true" Castlevania gameplay, that many people crying about.
It does this much better than CoTM. It embellishes on the surreal and bizarre tones of the game. It's personality. It's just delicious.
Completely disagree on every statement, but to each it's own.

Lol, no. Just look at the previews for Rayman Origins. That game is fucking beautiful, and it's 2D. Only idiots give bad reviews based on the game being 2D or 3D.

1) Note I said eventually. I even made it clear saying it again right afterward.
2) Note that many of the big review magazines are full of idiots.
-
And I didn't agree with your eventually. The games could remain 2D forever, if they have good graphics/art, great gameplay, great story, music, etc. no one would really care and they would still have good ratings.
In other words: Being 2D or 3D have nothing to do with the ratings. Being lazy or bad, that's what make reviewers give bad ratings for games.
-

Most reviewers are stupid.
It's like how SotN was rated down for having "primitive graphics", when those were some of the best 2D graphics around.
Basically, most reviewers are those Call of Duty/Halo fanboys who think graphics make the games, and won't give a rat's ass whether or not the gameplay's good.
-
Still, SOTN is regarded as one of the best games of all time. Reviews are not relevant. They serve to give you an idea of how the game is, but the rating... that's up to yourself, not someone else.

Reviews are relevant. The ratings from the "professional" reviews are what Konami sees, not one of my reviews/ratings that I post on various forums or on GameFAQs.

Yup.

No, Konami only see the sales. If the sales are good, does it matter that IGN gave them a 3.0? You know the answer.
-

It does matter. Say the next few Castlevania games were to sell, but only receive ratings of like... say, 3.0 or 2.5. People will start to notice that and some will even be turned off by the ratings.
There are also people that actually only judge games by the ratings and reviews it gets, rather than actually playing it for themselves. These people will not buy the game if it received a 3.0. Pretty much everyone where I live is like this.
And thus, less sales.
-
is this the mentality that fostered lords of shadow
-

Dumbass reviewers and retard filled magizines, Yeah, I owe the watered down success to that.
If they treated this game like the next best thing it would have succeeded.
To prove my point, GoW3 is one of the shittiest games I've ever played, this thing was treated like the holy grail when it came out.
-

No, it doesn't. Lots and lots of examples where the games had amazing scores and low sales and vice-versa.
-
No, it doesn't. Lots and lots of examples where the games had amazing scores and low sales and vice-versa.
But there are lots and lots of more examples that follow what I said.
Thus bringing us totally underrated games like Sengoku Basara, Breakdown, Monster Hunter, and many more.
-
Fact is that if reviews from popular gaming sites did not matter then there probably would not even be a need to have them am I right?
There are alot of fans that really value what those gaming sites have to say such as IGN for example.
If fans did not care about what they said then those types of sites would not have as many followers or members for that matter.
Say for instance IGN where to give a game a very low rating.
Alot of the fans who actually trust IGN's opinion on the game will probably not even bother buying it which obviously would hurt sales if enough fans did the same.
So in short it is pretty obvious that game reviews does indeed matter.
Although it does not necessarily guarantee that the game in question will not sale.
-
Fact is that if reviews from popular gaming sites did not matter then there probably would not even be a need to have them am I right?
No.
Sorry, I'll drop this subject. I just think you guys are damn wrong, and since we're getting nowhere, it's for the better.
-

Classic case of differing opinions at work here. ;D
I think you are also "damn wrong" but like I said its just my opinion.
-
What was this topic about again? I forgot over the page or so on "reviews".
Something like Dragon's crown style graphics, would rock.
-
I've been thinking, and I just don't think it's really likely that we will get a totally new game for the Anniversary. I would really love to see the Castlevania NES Classic remastered in the same way Dracula X was, but they haven't mentioned anything about it. Something tells me they would have hinted at it, if they had been working on it.
That really would be a love letter to folks who have been playing since the early days...
-
a Remake of Dracula Legend (Castlevania 3) is inevitable when IGA is on Board, in the interview of Castlevania Chronicles he declared that his favorite game.
its just a matter of time.

Considering how long ago Chronicles came out, "just a matter of time" could mean decades.

Am I the only one who thinks they're going to give us the AlucardVania game ? Not only do I wish to see that game happen, but I kinda feel that Konami didn't have anything planned, and they just made that announcement in reaction to Operation Akumajou. It's gonna take a lot of time to think of an entirely new game. Even a remake would take time to figure out, and if info about it didn't leak already then there must be no new game in the works.
But there's still the Alucardvania game. We already saw a trailer. Dunno how far they went into development, but there must be at least a scenario and/or gameplay. It might be wishful thinking on my part, but you never know with Konami.
-
Perhaps, but I doubt it will be the anniversary gift. We have to keep in mind that Konami hadn't anything planned yet so far. So I don't think people should expect a full blown game getting pumped out in a couple of months. It would be pretty interesting though if they announced some kind of project, similair to what Final Fantasy did, with a bunch of remakes/games getting released next year or something.
-

You can be sure Operation Akumajou has nothing to do with the announcement. Did you see the number of members? If the operation rainfall or the one to bring back Rockman Legends 3 have thousands and thousands of members and have accomplished almost nothing, you can be sure that one with less than 100 members will have no impact at all.
-
They likely have had something planned behind the scenes, perhaps as a surprise, but never said anything till now around the end of the anniversary year.
I doubt they have batted an eye at Operation Akumajou, or even know if it exists...
-
the other problem with Operation: Akumajo is that it's asking too much from Konami. Making one focused demand is reasonable and more likely to draw attention, but two demands?
1. We demand Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse redesigned and remastered in high definition, with state of the art graphics for all home consoles.
Even that is asking for a lot. The way it's worded, it sounds like they would accept nothing less than the Wii receiving a CVIII remake as well (and with state of the art graphics?) Even if it was reserved for the Wii U, Konami has yet to release a single Castlevania on 3 consoles they finished developing the same year. Yes, SOTN is available on 4-5 systems now but that was basically a straight port, and look how long that took to reach 360, PS3 and PSP.
2. We also demand Koji Igarashi be reinstated to produce the "1999 Demon Castle War" as originally foretold by Aria of Sorrow. We expect this game in 2D, with high definition state of the art graphics on all home consoles.
Now this is what the organization should have focused totally on. Cut out the "high definitely state of the art graphics on all home consoles", and you could start to have a chance of catching Konami's attention. Fans shouldn't demand 'how' a company should develop and release something.
If anything, a wide demand like that would sound more like an insult if people demand things like release on "all" home consoles. You really think they could even have time to accomplish HD state of the art 2-D graphics while spreading their efforts across multiple systems? SOTN wouldn't be what it is, if it was developed for Saturn and N64 at the sametime; same for the DS Castlevanias.
Asking for IGA is fine, asking for the 1999 Demon Castle War story is fine, but beyond that, they can't hold Konami's interest if their request stretches farther than those details.
And also forming these things in the form of a "demand" instead of a "request from fans", makes it appear more offensive than diplomatic.
And diplomacy is more likely to get what you want then sounding like a child that demands their new bottle.
Demands often if not always are seen as signs of uncivilized hostility.
That's not how fans (that Konami would respect) should behave. ;D
-
Chances are that whoever participates in Operation Akumajo is being put on the naughty list...
:-\

@affinity:
That is by far the greatest post you have ever made here. You hit everything spot on, without coming off as an advertising agent and or troll. Please do keep it up.
-
No offense, but Operation Akumajo is a Crash and Burn attempt to get Konami's attention, Simply Demanding rather than suggesting won't get anyone anywhere.
-

OK. Let's refresh for just a moment. Here's the original article posted on Rely on Horror's Website.
First thing --Konami has NOT made an announcement. Rely on Horror's report appears to be an "off the record" comment by an insider at Konami. Not only does this insider decline to comment on WHAT Konami intends to do, he also indicated that NOTHING has been approved. There is NO press release. NO advertising. And NO confirmation whatsoever by the mainstream gaming media.
The Editor of Rely on Horror was reporting on anger within the fanbase, before Operation Akumajo came along to give it a name and a Facebook page. Furthermore, the editor explicitly asked Konami about Operation: Akumajo's uprising, before getting this news "off the record".
As for the membership, we've reached 70 after 2 weeks on Facebook --compare that to about 120,000 Castlevania fans on Konami's official Facebook page since they started it back in March 2010. Without $50.00+ per day to advertise on Facebook, getting the word out to all those fans is a very difficult and time consuming process. As for Operation Rainfall and the Megaman Legends debacle --give a little credit for what they HAVE accomplished. Those fanbases have more engagement with their targets than all of us have with Konami right now. It's commitment and activism on the part of the fans that make or break these movements. The numbers certainly help, but what good are 10,000 fans that don't actively participate in email, phone calls, or Facebook campaigns?
And for the record, we're stirring things up just by existing --we have not yet commenced any campaigns whatsoever. Our focus right now is to spread the message and grow the movement within the Castlevania fanbase.
-
I just want to see Castlevania: The Demon Castle War in any shape or form and on any console, then they can close the canon and do whatever they want with the LOS timeline.
-

Negotiation is the art of getting what you want from someone else. You don't open a negotiation by asking for a compromise --that's self-defeating nonsense. You start by telling Konami what you REALLY want. Unfortunately for us, there's plenty of disagreement within the Castlevania fanbase. So in making our demands, we picked the 2 most popular. The Demon Castle War to satisfy the IGA generation, and Dracula's Curse Remastered for older fans. Asking for the release on all consoles caters to the demand of fans that own those consoles --nobody wants to be left out and we don't play favorites.
As for our diplomacy/behavior --there's none to speak of yet. Like I said earlier, our focus right now is spreading the word. We're not ready to announce any campaigning at this time.
-
Rely on Horror's report appears to be an "off the record" comment by an insider at Konami.
And NO confirmation whatsoever by the mainstream gaming media.
Cox basically confirmed his existence by saying he isn't a part of the Anniversary project. He didn't say it doesn't exist, or that he knows nothing about it, he said he isn't working on the Anniversary project. Typically with these things, they say nothing, or say "never heard of it," or "I know nothing about such a thing." The big announcement is likely waiting for Gamescon where they will get the biggest bang for their buck.
-
I just want to see Castlevania: The Demon Castle War in any shape or form and on any console, then they can close the canon and do whatever they want with the LOS timeline.
ugh, better to let LOS rot and just make spinoffs that stay close to the canon's timeline and flavor (like Circle of the Moon, which isn't counted as canon, but still a much better Castlevania (story and gameplay-wise) than 1,000 Lords of Shadow sequels).
I think the best thing fans could request for is the 1999 Demon Castle War since that has the greatest potential to optimize interest, and sales especially if produced by IGA himself since he crafted Castlevanias and details directly relating to 1999 Demon Castle War.
-

The big announcement is likely waiting for Gamescon where they will get the biggest bang for their buck.
It would be a more western audience than the Tokyo Game Show... I guess we'll have to wait and see...
-
As for our diplomacy/behavior --there's none to speak of yet. Like I said earlier, our focus right now is spreading the word. We're not ready to announce any campaigning at this time.
But while you are spreading the word, your introduction is already delivering a message that makes people see a stance of hostility using words like "Demand" on the facebook page.
The facebook page right now can be interpreted as a campaign as it is already, since it's already "exposed" to the public.
As it is, your organization could already be receiving bad/ignored reputation from Konami and fans who know there are better ways to list your terms/negotiations/whatever.
Of course there's still time to clean up and present a more peaceful and welcoming presentation, maybe even remake the operation under a new name if the first operation gets a bad name for itself in Konami offices. but reputation can be tricky to win back attention and respect.
-
Theres a difference between Operation Akumajo and GetMeOffTheMoon/100,000 Strong for Bringing Back Legends 3.
The L3 campaigns are about gaining members and showing Capcom that there IS an audience for the game, that there IS interest, that we want the game, and they made a mistake when they thought there was a "lack of interest" and a "lack of an audience".
To these ends, they are gaining support on facebook, and having people sign up on the North American DevRoom to boost it's numbers as high as possible, Signing a petition topic on Capcom Unity, and leaving a comment on a Legends 3 Cancellation response thread on Capcom Unity, which is reviewed by Capcom's Chris Svenson, Sending mail to Capcom, signing a Japanese poll,
and overall basically just gathering massive numbers to show support.
Operation Akumajo, is basically just a list of demands. "We want this. Give it to us or else.", and encourages members to do the same on Konami's facebook page.
Now, Granted, it doesnt seem like Capcom cares either way, but which one do you think either company is likely to give more notice?
-
lol the 2nd campaign title is really funny. I remember the MML2 ending lol. ;D
Well okay, I understand Operation Akumajo has a focus and stuff and means well, but the facebook page right now could sound a little nicer how they word things. The demands currently comes off as immature when you read it.
-
Operation Moonfall is another Campaign to Basically say, Yes, We want Zelda MM 3D
-
(like Circle of the Moon, which isn't counted as canon, but still a much better Castlevania (story and gameplay-wise) than 1,000 Lords of Shadow sequels).
Seriously? CotM is better not only in gameplay, but in story too? Really? I could somewhat understand someone being such a die-hard 2D gameplay fan that LoS held no joy for them. Though I would view this person as living a sad and limited existence (as a gamer), kinda like a friend I once had who just plain refused to enjoy any game that wasn't an RPG. His choice, but a dumb choice.
But to say that even the story was better, says a lot more about you, than it does about LoS, or any sequel or any other game for that matter. And before you get your panties in a bunch about how entitled you are to yuor "opinion", I agree that you're entitled to have an opinion, but that doesn't mean your opinion is in any way valid.
Just as, if someone were say that Rembrandt was a bad painter when compared to a guy who makes velvet painting of Elvis (the kind you would see hanging in a trailer park somewhere). That person, by saying something of that manner, would only be revealing themselves to, at best, have bad taste, and thus have opinions not worth listening to, just as you have done here.
And no, relativistic arguments do not apply here. There is such a thing as a account of taste, both good and bad. There are things in which I can look back on from my youth, like music for instance, and honestly say that I had bad taste at times. Even though I enjoyed those things, my "palet" if you will, needed refinement.

But while you are spreading the word, your introduction is already delivering a message that makes people see a stance of hostility using words like "Demand" on the facebook page.
So you believe "demanding" in and of itself undermines the effort... It may be good manners to knock politely and say "please" but you're forgetting that this is an angry and neglected fanbase. Operation: Akumajo is attempting to give that fanbase a public voice in a way that nobody else has ever bothered to do before. Castlevania fans want their feelings, opinions, and desires heard by Konami --why be disingenuous by sugarcoating it?

What better ways are there? I understand where you're coming from about the demanding language being used, but the bottom line is this. We're straight forward and honest about who we are, what we stand for, and what we want. How is that not respectable?
You really don't sound opposed to what we're doing, so much as how we're doing it... Am I correct?
-
Operation Moonfall is another Campaign to Basically say, Yes, We want Zelda MM 3D
That always seemed like a pretty silly operation to me. What's exciting about re-releasing Majora's Mask on 3DS...with minimal additions?
-
this is an angry and neglected fanbase.
Because the Legends fanbase toootally isn't neglected and angry.
-why be disingenuous by sugarcoating it?
because the comapny is not going to listen to angry whining. They want numbers. Math. Give the Legends facebook page legit 100,000 likes, and it is VERY likely that it might have some impact.
Keep setting demands without giving any actual numbers or efforts to increase them, or prove to konami WHY they should give in to your demands, and it will be shrugged off.
-

Touche sir. But I wasn't making a comparison.

Konami has already shrugged off their old-school fanbase --that's the problem. If anything comes out of this Anniversary, there's a very good chance it will come across as a shallow afterthought. As for growing our numbers, that is a work in progress --I'm concerned that a Facebook ad campaign might be necessary at some point, but that remains to be seen. Also, if you have any professional negotiation expertise, your assistance would be welcome. :)

Cut that bull please, opinions are always valid. That's why they're called oppinions, not facts. I didn't see her stating her oppinion as fact.
And I agree with her. I prefer seeing anything besides LoS.
-
. Operation Akumajo is necessary if we want Konami to know how many Castlevania fans are displeased with the new direction the series is taking. But it would be more effective imo if it could focus on one demand at a time. Making too much demands will only make us look disorganized. The thing is not all Castlevania fans want the same thing. Some even like the new direction.
I think we should make a poll to see what we guys really want for the anniversary, if it hasn't already been done.

I'm on the Operation Akumajo facebook page and I love the new direction. However, I still wouldn't mind see a demon castle wars game or something. I really just wanted to see some kind of special anniversary package given out. I just remember it being really cool to receive it whenever they dolled one out for the 20th.
I think the continuity can work like comic books, with two variations on the same story going at one time.
-
I agree. My only concern is to have 2D games in the future. I don't mind the series going the LoS route, as long as 2D games are still made.
-

I'm sorry, but I agree with affinity and Maedhros, and the notion that an opinion is not worth listening to is completely absurd. All opinions have value and the question is how much. She's only telling us what she feels and that has merit in itself. Isn't that the point of this whole operation? To pool ideas in a respectful manner? Nobody has to agree with anybody here, but they can at least be respectful of others. And it's not like all these opinions (yes, opinions, different yet equally valid), are to be taken as gospel anyway. There is no Castlevania God/dess to say yea or nay to anything a fan thinks and declare a judgment of taste from it. And if there were, it surely wouldn't be any of us here.
As for the line "it says more about you?" Huh? It tells us she likes Circle of the Moon better than Lords of Shadow. And that's her prerogative. It doesn't tell me anything else, because I'm not analyzing anything about her personality based upon the kind of Castlevania she likes.
As for random Elvis painter guy/Rembrandt, their styles are completely different and cannot be compared. The question is: how good is Elvis painter guy at painting Elvis? And how good is Rembrandt at painting Rembrandts?
But your assertion is not a conflict of tastes or even relativist arguments; it's simply one of disagreeing with an opinion that someone made because it contrasts with your personal beliefs, and that is relativism in its highest form. The kid who only decided to play RPGs made a dumb choice because he was not being open-minded to other games. But I don't think there's anyone here that has played only one Castlevania and ignored the others. Like it or not, she is entitled to her opinion and none of us, neither I nor you, nor anyone else, can pass judgment on it.
-
If anything comes out of this Anniversary, there's a very good chance it will come across as a shallow afterthought.
They already have a shallow afterthough (literal one at that) - it's called Harmony of Despair.
They is no lower point for the series after this game, so maybe, just maybe, anniversary project will have some quality to it.
-
Sometimes I think it'd be nice to go back to the days of the NES games, where fans were genuinely grateful for what they were given.
Castlevania audience is spoilt.
Including me. KONAMI, I DEMAND SALAMANDER 3!
-

There are things in which I can look back on from my youth, like music for instance, and honestly say that I had bad taste at times. That's exactly a problem I have with some people, though. Nobody needs refinement. A decision to change preference should be based upon lack of enjoyment, not because you just want to try something more "refined". There's nothing wrong with all tastes in the world, and because you might deem something as tacky doesn't make it so. So what if it's out of style and not in the current trend. Trend is a farce. It's a means, created by people, to fit the "ins" into a neat little box, segregating them from the "outs" who don't follow trends religiously.
But really, you are that embarressed about your youth? I can agree with, perhaps stupid ignorant teen choices, but it always bothered me that people could be so ashamed of, well, who they are. It's a piece of you, whether you want to forget it or not. That kinda of act of forsaking yourself always bothered me. It's like going back in time, seeing your younger self and throwing them under a bus. It's still you. Stupid choices in the path of life are excusable, but never regret! Even if it's not your thing now, it was still a part of you. That's a prime reason I'm also bothered by people who are too easy to toss in the "Oh, you're blinded by nostalgia!" quip. Nothing's wrong with nostalgia(memories based on possitive emotions). People gotta stop pretending like it's a bad thing.
-
I think it's perfectly valid to consider CotM's story better than Lords of Shadow. The game's story tries to pretend is bigger in scope than the rest of the series, but if you take away all the useless padding, the story is a bare bones as any other game in the series. I mean, does making useless narrations about Gabriel feels or thinks, which is also always described to us mind you, and can easily be summarized in one line instead of whole paragraph of something that does not add to his character or advance the plot in any way, make the story more "epic" or interesting? On top of that you also have to suffer through a very awkward and unneccesarily complicated revelation of who the real bad guy is, and an ending that is probably the dumbest and most forced in the series to date.
There a plenty of reasons for considering Lords to have a poor story.

@Operation Akumajo topic
I'm currently an admin of OA, and I'll just say this. There are times when we're coming off as too demanding to the point where we'll not be listened to. I already talked to Cecil about some of these things, but when you look at this...
"We want Demon Castle Wars with state of the art graphics for all home consoles, Dracula's Curse remastered, etc."
That sounds a little demanding. Why?
1) It's understandable for the game to be cross-platform for PS3 and Xbox 360, and maybe PC (depending on how it would play), but then for the Wii also? Not bashing the Wii in any way, but... They'd either have to make the Wii version a downgrade, or make all other versions identical to the Wii version.
2) State of the art graphics is asking for a little much, especially with what I said right above this. I'm fine with graphics comparable to... say... maybe Resident Evil 5? I mean, hopefully the Belmont won't be as massive as Chris, but yeah.
Asking for it to be cross-platform and have state of the art graphics will most likely result in us being ignored, or Konami responding negatively.
@LoS/CotM topic
Yeah, if someone likes CotM in every way shape or form better than LoS, I say let them. You can't exactly call their opinions invalid or have no merit, simply because they like a GBA title better than an Xbox 360 one. That's kinda... rude.

About the Wii... High definition graphics are technically impossible on the Wii. And since the Wii era is nearly over from a development standpoint, the mindset here was more toward Nintendo's next gen. Konami already has their hands on Wii-U development kits, but I never really made that distinction at all. Even so, the Wii is still a large market for the here and now. It's not unheard of to begin game development on a certain system and then to upgrade during the course of the development cycle, or even after the fact for a superior system.
Also in response to repeated requests, I am taking some time to rework and expand the mission statement for both language and context. The idea originally was to keep it short and sweet, but it ultimately came across as more abrasive than originally intended. Claimh and and I are currently ironing out the details before we present it to the Operation: Akumajo community for feedback.

I'm with affinity on CotM. It's a very straight-forward story that's sits solid on it's own foundations. The game itself is simplistic even though they were aiming at another SotN success. But I loved it. LoS left me hanging on a ledge...too many ledges metaphorically and literally. Only the namesake is the reason why I bought it, though I also had to play it in order to get the whole picture. A picture I wasn't fond of. While the middle of the game was interesting (the castle segments) the rest just did not hold up. Since I don't have a facebook account Cecil-kain you could simply add my vote to the numbers if you're so inclined. I'm not getting my hopes up for the 25th anniversary as I run the risk of being let down. I'll just wait and see.
-
That's a prime reason I'm also bothered by people who are too easy to toss in the "Oh, you're blinded by nostalgia!" quip. Nothing's wrong with nostalgia(memories based on possitive emotions). People gotta stop pretending like it's a bad thing.
Nostalgia is indeed a bad thing in some cases.
When you were a kid you was easily impressed by some movies and cartoons that in reality are bad, hilarious or just not that great. When you grow you understand that. Not because you simply grow up out of them. But because you aquire more knowledge, experience, understanding of what is good and what is bad. While art sometimes is hard to judge there is little doubt that say, some movies from the 80-s will look cheesy right now, or some cartoons you thought were awesome are now more of a camp show and not that awesome really. It is reality and one should understand that.
Though sadly there are people who are literally blinded by nostalgia. They really think that some things that were awesome 10 years ago could be viewed with the high regard today by everyone. But some people already grow up, they physically couldn't view those things as cool as they were when they were children. However nostalgia blinded people couldn't understand that and bill everything new and improved as the violation of they children memories and sacrilige towards they object of passion, and people who tend to understand that things and values changes as traitors or "non-true fans".
This is have nothing to do with acceptance of your past tastes. It's growing up and maturing process. I for one was very fond of old Ninja Turtle cartoon. I thought it's the best animated show ever. When I new about new series I thought it was sacrilige because they will never-ever will do the show as awesome as old one was.
Several years forward and I watched both series and come to conclusion that old show wasn't that awesome at all. Really, there were some pretty mediocre moments and the new series was clearly supperior in practically everything, save for models, but it's just me prefering realistic style over stylized one. I love the old show to bits, but I don't want anyone to repeat it, because they will never that 80-s spirit, and I will never claim that it is really the best of the best.
So what I am? Bertrayed myself because I changed my views on what I liked? Or maybe just simply grew up and view things acordingly to the my adult mindset instead of clinging to the memories of the past?
-
CoTM was a pretty average story with the Cain and Abel Style Character Conflictsm which is good.
But I cannot, not even for a second, accept this miserable little pile of glitches better than LOS Gameplay
It felt more like an ametuer attempt at Metroidvania on GBA, but what did you expect from the team who brought you Castlevania 64 (LOD was better, but that's not the point)
It was rushed and there were many, many rough ends, which is a shame since the game was really creative and had alot of style.
CoTM needs to be fixed, enough said.
-
Nostalgia can be a sad thing, really. Not so long ago, I got my hands on a bunch of episodes from a tv show I really liked when I was little, and I was very excited because of the good memories. I ended up kind off disappointed. The weird thing was that I still liked it two years ago, but all of a sudden I don't feel that way anymore.

Power Rangers, Ninja Turtles (TV Show), any Cartoon based on Video Game characters in the early 90's
yet Rocko's modern life and hey Arnold got 100x better

Yet, they manage somehow combine elements of past games and "metroidvania" school together. Something that IGA wasn't able to do before OOE (which, as I heard, was developed with some of COTM team people). And this game was much better than HOD practically at everything.
COTM is my favorite "metroidvania" alongside OOE. And CV64 is one of my favorite games in the series, so KCEK was awesomes in my book.

Wasn't CotM one of like, the first GBA games? I remember buying it sometime around when the GBA first came out, 'les my memory is failing me. I also bought Pinobee, which was awesome.
I think it's kinda funny that CotM was the perfect blend of classic games and Metroidvanias, something IGA couldn't do, but the producer of CotM is called "Ko-G". Guy's a name stealer. :P
-
Konami producers seem to have a thing for hip abbreviations as nicknames.
-
Dave Cox more like D-COX.
i dont think cotm or ooe had a strong connection with the classic titles. they certainly didn't have the level design to uphold any of the prestige the classic titles had. BUT THAT'S JUST MY OPINION. funny typos: i typed cod instead of ooe at first.
-
Fuck this bickering, Castlevania games are good, ALL OF THEM, so what if the story doesn't agree with you its still fun.
This Topic is about what you hope to see at Gamerscon, not Flaming other games because you can't accept it.
The question some people should ask themselves is "What is a Castlevania game?"
-
A miserable little pile of recycled sprites?

Hush...all of you. Konami could release a Castlevania game where you play as a little panda bear wearing a sundress that kills zombies with a rubber tree branch and you'd ALL play it. Just admit it...
-
Well, one thing we could be thankful for is rebirth, since that title barely had any reused sprites aside from the fleaman's. And despite the music being reused from other titles, though most of them were obscure songs (except vampire killer and a few others) that didn't really play in any stages before.

Yes.Don't ask me why, I'm not a logical person

Yeah, ReBirth was awesome. And prooved that classic formula still could work pretty well. One just need to be creative enough, when using it.
While I loved selection of music (especially A Lullaby Sent to the Devils) I didn't like it's "genesis-like" arrangement. But it's personal thing, I just have some sort of "allergy" to the Genesis sound. It's really jarring and too clank for me. I wish they used SNES sound as an inspiration for the arrangements.

I liked the entire OST of ReBirth except Load BGM. WHY did they use that song?
And because of DXC I keep thinking of Load BGM and Demon Seed as a pair because of where they're used in the game, and their placement on the soundtrack... I think Demon Seed would have been in cool in its place.
-

Beats me. If you ask me, they should've used Lost Painting, which is one of the songs they decided not to use for some reason.

Yeah, and Battle of the Holy was more deserving of the first stage theme, but they didn't use that one either. -_-

actually, they did compose it, but never used it.

they also did Lost Painting too, but not as good as this version of Battle of the Holy.

I still really like the selection of tunes on ReBirth. They're all pretty obscure material. Well, compared to the likes of Bloody Tears and Vampire Killer. It's just great they that remixed what they did.
-
Couldn't imagine THIS in an Yamaha arrangement...Maybe for the better.
Wow. I thought the ReBirth unused tracks were common knowledge.
Then again common knowledge for me isn't necessarily common knowledge, since the people I hang out with know all sorts of weird shit... ^.^;;
-
actually, they did compose it, but never used it.
I've heard about Lost Painting, but not about BotH.
Not very good remix I'd say. Typically Genesis-like.
-
Yeah, but the point was to make it seem like an old arcade game. All the ReBrith titles have that sort of sound. And has been stated by others, the old Konami arcade games sound similar to the Genesis. Just compare it to the Haunted Castle OSV and you'll hear the similarity immediately.
-

Not exactly.
Haunted Castle music sounds much more softer, deeper and mostly without this jarring clanking that typical for the Genesis music. Some of the tracks even closer in the sound to the NES / SNES music rather then Genesis. Like Don't Wait Until the Night for example. While it's still sounds heavily synthesized it's sounding much softer and sounds are more varied.

what if Konami adds a Castlevania home space similiar to Siren Ward of Despair and other franchises spaces that are filled with authentic atmosphere and fun reach-the-exit game to play with friends?
Well Konami does have an arcade space on Home, but it would be interesting to add a Castlevania space complete with outdoor (similiar to the gate in Castlevania 1 intro and Rondo's flying dragon boss fight location), and indoor of the castle (perhaps entrance hallway?)
That would be very cool! And maybe a maze minigame with Castlevania costumes and familiars as prizes!

Irrelavent, No one uses PS home.

Irrelavent, No one uses PS home.
so says a 360 user. (though i don't use it myself but i tend to see alot of people there)
It would be an interesting take, but i highly doubt that.
-
I check out HOME every few months and the place is always packed and I remember Sony saying it has been successful for them too. I'd probably check it out more if there was something in it that interests me. Didn't they just recently add SotN shirts for your avatar?

I think its LoS shirts they added for avis, i don't remember seeing any SotN shirts on the menu.

true I was into the 360, but all my friends who had ps3s didn't use it, I can see why.
Its just a chatroom with avatars, and overpriced digital furniture

Ah, that explains. The last time i checked it was before they released those shirts so that probably explains why i didn't see them.
Good to know.

Yea, that and its supposed to act like some kind of virtual world.
Even then, i don't really use it that much. Although there are some games that gives you rare furniture peices upon completing them or completing certain tasks.

Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth: Battle Of The Holy (UNUSED) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkxpLVYoz1Q#)
actually, they did compose it, but never used it.
No, this is not an ”unused track”.
Soundtrack-CD ”bonus track”, ”New remix medley”.

PSHome well, was am attempt to compete with Xbox as they copy the avatar Idea from Nintendo.
Can't say it was a good idea, but I could say it was poorly executed.
a Video Game console is meant to do one thing, Play video games.
The added media support is nice, but the ps3 and 360 are used for some of the most stupidest shit ever.

an attitude like that wouldn't have make consoles sell as good and offer variety of things as they do now. Even stuff like playing music and movies has gotten more types of people to buy it. The wider the entertainment spectrum a console offers, the more sales and benefits for customers that want to use it besides gaming.
At least PS Home uses avatars to GOOD community use instead of just standing like some kind of useless display model on 360's dashboard or Wii's main screen whatever.
Yes they made some XBLA/Wii games for those consoles that support the avatars, but really, those are few and far between and they can't match PS Home's much more mature and higher graphics quality presentation and better community atmosphere. ;D Overall PS Home is much better and has benefitted from exclusive events and stuff that aren't available on Xbox360 or Wii. ;D Take for example the upcoming Dead Island, there is a big event at PS Home with minigames and prizes. And people and their friends can have fun together on PS Home, even if it's just to chat and stuff, it is a nice space for people interested.
The negative people that aren't interested doesn't change the fact PS Home is very popular worldwide and even this year it's made record numbers even after the PSN hack.
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/record-traffic-for-ps-home (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/record-traffic-for-ps-home)
Countless people use it, and it is very successful and widely used by more people than you realize. In fact, there are far more PS Home users than most games' multiplayer online. :)
It is valuable and fun to a lot of people out there, so people can't deny that fact. ;D

I hate when I agree with you.

Ok, enough of the console fanboy chatter.

See you all soon :)
-
Happy 25th!
-
Why wouldn't Cox be happy, MercurySteam is in control of the franchise now. All those "Player's Choice" awards he's constantly tweeting for LoS is evidence of their satisfaction.
-
Happy Birthday, Castlevania!!!
-
"Today is the 25th anniversary of Castlevania. Some would say the series is in decline but the fact is it's never been in better shape."
Is he talking about LoS sales? Or maybe he knows something. Like, we'll see five new games next year or something... Or maybe the budget for the upcoming LoS2 is HUGE, bigger than for any Castlevania in the past. Something like that.
-

HIS Castlevania has never been in better shape. Just another *hint hint wink wink* "I'm working on LOS2 but I can't talk about it" sort of post. He IS actually correct about Castlevania meaning different things to different people...
-
HIS Castlevania has never been in better shape.
Yeah, I'm sensing something egoistical as well. Hopefully, if HIS Castlevania games continues to be somewhat commercially successful, some of that money could be spent on new 2D Vanias too. Though chances are the sequel to LoS won't sell half as much as the original. That's usually how sequels go, unless they're GoW, GTA, CoD or Halo. And a few others. Castlevania won't join the frontrunners of the industry anytime soon, if ever.
-
Happy 25th Castlevania!
No matter what route the series take in the future, the legacy it left behind will not be forgotton.

It's hard to say what's happening behind closed doors, but I'm inclined to agree with you. I don't think Cox has any intention of reaching out to the fans that were disenchanted by LoS. I think he underestimates how many Hardcore Castlevania fans got hooked by the LoS hype, bought Limited Edition copies, and ended up feeling duped by the time it was all over. THAT will cost him sales on day1. Long term, the sequel's success will depend on how successful he's been stealing fans from God of War, Dante's Inferno, Asassin's Creed, etc...
-
In Japan, September 27th now.
Thank you very much!
-
At the very least, I hope they acknowledge the anniversary and don't just ignore it. Cox tweeting about it all day isn't proper acknowledgment either.
-
Well Konami might not be known to be as outgoing as Koei and Koei Europe with anniversaries and celebrations, but I think feelings inside count, right? ;D
-
FUCK YEAH
-
Cox tweeting about it all day isn't proper acknowledgment either.
No, it definitely isn't. It's actually more like a cruel joke.

Finally : http://www.relyonhorror.com/latest-news/exclusive-konami-confirms-castlevania-25th-anniversary-project/ (http://www.relyonhorror.com/latest-news/exclusive-konami-confirms-castlevania-25th-anniversary-project/)
So, what type of project will this end up being? Speculation still won’t cease over this but it’s satisfying to know that we are indeed going to be receiving a game to celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary.
Just a clarification: they didn't actually say that it's going to be a game, did they?
-
Happy 25th anniversary Castlevania!
To f*cken bad Konami does not treat you the way you deserved to be treated on this special day.
I'm sure the CV series feels like a neglected child at this point.
And Cox's tweets do not help at all. saying stuff like Castlevania is in the best shape it has ever been in just sounds like he is being really cocky here and basically saying that its thanks to HIM and LOS that the CV series is still alive.
But I could be wrong and he may not have meant it like that.
-

I wonder if he knows something we don't. Probably not, though...I'm guessing his comments were in reference to an LoS sequel. :-\
You know what I think would be funny? Starting an e-mail campaign trying to convince Konami to sell the rights of the franchise to another publisher. But instead of sending angry letters, using a more heartfelt, pleading tone. ;D
-

That's hilarious! :D
It would be like saying "After the 26th of September we now know that you don't care anymore about the series, and the Castlevania fanbase has finally given up hope. We're not gonna bother Konami anymore because there's really no point. But it's ok, no hard feelings! We're positive that there are many other companies out there who would do the series justice, and you could make a buck while your at it. Maybe you could put that money into the next couple of Metal Gear Solids - a series we understand means much more to you than sad old Castlevania. At least think about it."
-
I agree with DarkPrinceAlucard...
I can't recall the last time I ever cared about Cox and, really... The statement along the lines of "I don't want to be Mr. Castlevania" that he supposedly made is whittling itself away and fast...
I hope this series does not pass away in silence...

Today is the 25th anniversary of Castlevania. Some would say the series is in decline but the fact is it's never been in better shape.
Translation: We made a buttload of cash with Lords of Shadow, something the fans can never understand. We have our priorities straight & will continue to shock everyone with what we're doing
The future is assured.Castlevania will never die. The series is evolving and bringing in new fans, reaching larger audiences
Translation: The reboot of Castlevania is in full effect, we have contracts already signed so there's no turning back. Lords of Shadow was a success and we will continue to follow this formula
Castlevania means different things to different people but today of all days, we should all celebrate together this incredible milestone.
Translation: The higher-ups at Konami don't see a viable reason to release anything special commemorating the anniversary, since the series is fine with LoS leading the way so lets just be happy with that
Now back to work. Things to do. See you all soon :)
Translation: Now to go travel to Spain to oversee work on our LoS spinoff for the 3DS
-
At least Cox is acknowledging the damn anniversary. Until I looked and saw http://twitter.com/#!/CVSyndicate/status/118439024330424320 (http://twitter.com/#!/CVSyndicate/status/118439024330424320), I would have thought Konami would have at least TWEETED a birthday message. Nope.
Disgusting. They give Frogger its own goddamn page and a huge campaign, but Castlevania doesn't even get a Tweet.
Fuck. You. Konami.
-
I'm giving them until 9:26 PM. After that, REVOLT.
-
I just don't understand how projects like ENCORE OF THE NIGHT & Harmony of Despair get the greenlight (even a random ARCADE GAME), but a new metroidvania from IGA & team is just out of the question. Wasn't Order of Ecclesia met with favorable reviews? Didn't everyone on the internet agree that it was a step in the RIGHT direction? I don't think anyone here has actually said they hated the game.. because there was nothing wrong with it! What did Konami see wrong?
I'm sure their response will be "it didn't sell enough, so it's really the fans fault." This will be yet another infamous blunder that will go down in the video game industry's history, "Konami refusing to celebrate Castlevania's 25th year," right up there with Capcom and their "lets bring back Legends 3, but no one joined the dev room so lets not waste our time" statements & Square Enix' rape of the Final Fantasy franchise.
-
Disgusting. They give Frogger its own goddamn page and a huge campaign, but Castlevania doesn't even get a Tweet.
Fuck. You. Konami.
My sentiments exactly.
What true CV fan would even have 1 single good word to say about Konami at this point?
I wonder what some of the CV fanbase who where defending Konami and the direction they are taking with the series are doing right now.
This is just the biggest slap in the face to the CV fanbase IMO.
But the day is not over yet.
Maybe Konami will show us something that will surprise us.
Otherwise I say F*%k off Konami.
-
Just wait until we see what they do for The Great Metal Gear 25th Anniversary Celebration next year. Like rubbing salt in the wound.
-
Castlevania is dead and it all started with the release of LoS. No one cares about Castlevania anymore. Everyone just cares about fucking CoD, Gears of War, Halo, Madden etc.
-
Just wait until we see what they do for The Great Metal Gear 25th Anniversary Celebration next year. Like rubbing salt in the wound.
Too see CV not getting love and being treated like trash but freaking frogger gets something makes me feel like this as for metal gear you can be it is goingto be explosive so to say salt in the wound is an understatement more like a shot in the foot. :'(

What Colossal Castlevania Collection Guy said (BTW, check your PM box :D).
And..pretty much what you all said. Ten years ago, I wouldn't have expected this anniversary having been acknowledged only by a greenhorn producer whose comments have a faint scent of arrogance in them. Even if something's on the way, this is the birthday. When you think this series' history is presently pretty much just a target of lazy nods in a game that rides with its name, it makes me wonder what the core audience will be in 5 years and will they even care about this history.
Castlevania isn't dying, but I don't need Cox to tell me that. Besides, I know he's not talking about the same Castlevania.
-
I saw some people were even tweeting him "Happy Anniversary @CastlevaniaLOS" or "@CastlevaniaLOS Thank you for some of the greatest moments of my gaming life".
He works on one game and is now being treated like he owns the franchise?!?!
-
Sounds like Konami gave David full control of the series.
The Castlevania as we knew it is dead. :(
-

Well with things going the way they are now as far as Castlevania goes, I'd say Igarashi's days as being the head of the Castlevania series are juuuuuuust about numbered, so they're going with the new guy.
E3 2012 is gonna bring some tear's both bloody and salty.
-
E3 2012 is gonna bring some tear's both bloody and salty.
I couldn't care less about E3 anymore, that whole show is a gigantic joke. It gets progressively worse each year. They're better off announcing the next game at a different convention.
-
Sounds like Konami gave David full control of the series.
And believe it or not some fans are actually ok with that.
Even if it could mean that we will never see a true classic (or metroidvania) 2.D game ever again.
Unless its in the form of a huge pile of recycled mess with no story and no depth as a simple playable Xbox Live Arcarde/PSN downloadable game.
-
And believe it or not some fans are actually ok with that.
Neat?
I would be ok with it too if Mercury Steam actually took the criticism they've received into consideration.
-
Neat?
I would be ok with it too if Mercury Steam actually took the criticism they've received into consideration.
I feel the same.
But it seems MS is bent on doing this reboot to the castlevania mythos their way and not the fans way.
So maybe they will listen to SOME of the fans input but it will only be minor in my opinion.
Thats why I would love it if Konami would atleast have something to fall back on if LOS2 does not do so well.
Like still releasing classic games that cater to some of their older and more hardcore fanbase.
After all we are the ones that stuck by the for so long.
-
Well, it's not like they can never go back finishing the classic timeline. But if they're gonna go the long way with the route of LoS, it might be several years before getting back to the basics.
Simple things like not recycling stuff from other games and taking the most annoying aspects away (like having to play hide and seek with some fat, thieving little asshole goblin or whatever Chupacabra is) might not be enough to steer the LoS boat to any kind of satisfying course. I mean, it's unlikely Gabriel the Dracula would spawn more miserable vampires to existence when he himself yearns to die (so bye to Belmonts vs Dracula), he got rid of his pseudo-VK (now there's some aproppriate symbolism) and even if the post-credits teaser was cool, I don't care to have another fistfight with a kind of gay Satan. I want to storm a castle while using a goddamn whip, eat meat from unexpected locations and remember the music years afterwards. You can give it to me with a decent story, but I don't need embarrassing pop culture jokes or references to another, grossly ubiquitous Konami series. And that should have been obvious. Some of you hate IGA with a passion. But did he ever needed to be told that putting a fucking Portal joke in a Castlevania game is a completely retarded idea? Figuring that out shouldn't be dependant on feedback. It's called common sense.
They changed too much in one sweep. But a public that doesn't give a shit about this series' roots, will gobble it up.
God, thinking all of this is such a downer. This was supposed to be a happy day, wasn't it? :D
-
God, thinking all of this is such a downer. This was supposed to be a happy day, wasn't it? :D
It should've been a happy day. :( I'm not even mad that a new game wasn't announced, but that Konami seems to be completely ignoring it. It's an insult to both the franchise and the fans.
Though the gif in your sig kinda cheers me up. :D

Bringing LOS into Castlevania's 25th anniversary celebrations just feels awkward
It's like a unapologetic murderer showing up to their victims funeral, it doesn't seem at all appropriate.
-
..but it's our biggest, most current event. And for a good reason, the pessimists/realists in us can't help but see it as a sign of things to come. At the moment, what else do we know - other that LoS2 is a sure thing and Konami is doing diddly squat to let us know they care that their baby has aged?
What should we talk about?
-
I know. Let's flaunt moments of solid awesomeness. Nothing but the best of Castlevania.
Super Castlevania 4 (SNES) Ending (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zidVDQSsotM#)

I wouldn't be a hater if LoS was what we were promised and teased it would be. I was promised Super Castlevania IV in 3D. I got something entirely different.
-
It seems that he has great confidence in LoS.
And.... What was the "Castlevania 25th anniversary project"?
-
And.... What was the "Castlevania 25th anniversary project"?
Nothing, just nothing.
Well this has been a steller 25th anniversary, It's like a birthday party that your parents forgot about even though you remined them constantly months in advance but then they send the parent of the adopted kid that not many people like to wish you happy birthday instead and to crypticaly tell you that he's planning on expecting another child on the way.
-
Well, the Castlevania Facebook Page likesd my Happy 25th past and Cox acknowledged it as well, this clearly means that they are aware....
Also, don't you find it rather odd that not a single tweet or post from Konami has been stated about the 25th?
Since LoS2 in in the works, that clearly means Konami hasn't gave up on the franchise, they are cooking something up...
-
Nothing, just nothing.
Thank you.
-
Castlevania is in the best shape it's ever been. Haterz can never change that fact. Konami is investing in it's future...
Take out QTEs, wall shimmying, Titan sequences, and throw in some more horror elements, and I'll be inclined to believe you.
Which isn't to say I didn't like LoS, but I'm not gonna call it TEH BEST VANIA EVARS. Cox really, really needs to learn that constructive criticism != "haterz".
-
Take out QTEs, wall shimmying, Titan sequences, and throw in some more horror elements, and I'll be inclined to believe you.
And more natural platforming I want medusa's trying to kill me while I am jumping across a pitfall with spikes from the ceiling trying to crush me I guess I want a CV like mario 64 or maximo or jax and daxter something that does not only combat but platforming I love me some LoS but imagine a more natural feel and while I like combo action games a game with good non super crazy combo combat and incredible platforming sounds like a winner to me.
-
^ I agree with you both. As much I as I enjoyed LoS, I really missed the music and other aspects that made Castlevania what most of us remembered it as. All those things that you've mentioned - if they are absent from the next installment, and classic elements are used to replace said things, then maybe we might see a better, more Castlevania-like game on the home consoles.
Back on topic, it really is a sad anniversary this year, and if LoS 2 is the supposed project, I really wouldn't mind, just as long as the game is true to the Castlevania name this time. Though, I can't help but feel disappointed that there wasn't a single game this year, except for HoD which really doesn't count as it was released last year.
-
To be fair, LoS does have a lot more Castlevania elements than people give it credit for, namely anachronistic and ruined environments, enemies taken from random mythologies, and a scruffy dude with a whip fighting them all. Heck, the plot in itself gave me some vibes of Haunted Castle; I was surprised Cross Your Heart wasn't anywhere on the soundtrack. But I think where a lot of people became jaded (myself included) was the lack of Dracula and more horrific elements, both of which are pretty integral to the series. It was pretty sunshiney for a game called Lords of Shadow, which kinda pissed me off. Especially considering these guys formerly made friggin' Jericho.
