Far as artwork goes, at least with the old artwork you could get a sense of what the game was about....CV1's cover art, which basically gives you a synopsis of the entire game with one picture.

FUCK YEAH IT DOES!

*weeps

It's a thing of beauty.....

Ah, the good ol' days....

You should take a look at CVIV and Akumajou Densetsu's box covers.

What happened to these artists? Why can't we have art like this anymore? Did they all die off or something? Why can't we have real fine detail anymore?

Why keep it? It would have been like Megaman keeping it's old art style. It just doesn't work anymore. The gothic and elegant art is fine anyway and most people prefer it(especially after what its done to the character designs). How is the gothic art not fine detail anyway?

1. Megaman and Castlevania are 2 completely different topics.

2. Who's "most people"? Are you trying to speak for the majority of the fans, because it's not working.

Ok... first of all Castlevania always depended from 3 things... MUSIC, ARTWORK and gaming but the proportions are like this MUSIC and ARTWORK (80%) gaming (20%) accept it
So... if the artwork is bad and we dont have too much idea from music what could u say?
Any case, the gaming could be awesome but with those characters I just see another common fighting game, not a Castlevania release.
Iga dont put many effort to his games or at least not too much money... thats why 3D vanias are never too famous for the common gamers

This is most applicable to the latest 3Dvanias (since Lament to this future Judgment).
Im not telling u ppl that 2D vanias are bad, the problem since SOTN the formula hasnt changed... it funs ppl but is hard to put something new but is possible, Iga made it well for Soul combos in Somavanias but wasnt worked enough badly =/

Well back to Judgement... by the moment i see the combos and fighting mode kinda poor I hope for 2009 they fix that (and that someone kills Obata, collect signs or donate to kick out Obata wohhh)lol

Dude, what exactly is your problem? Your posts seem like you're trying to represent what the majority of the fans feel, and what everyone else thinks here is "untrue" or not valid.

Not everyone likes the newer gothic art, so most people don't prefer it like you said. Megaman is it's own series made by a different company under very different conditions, if you want to talk about that, then make a topic in the Gaming Forum.

Like I said, thats not the point. Also, just because not everyone like the gothic art, it doesn't mean not most like it.

You can get the gothic art style with the classic art style. It's just that today, Anne Rice's overly-romantic depiction of what "gothic" means is the only kind anyone wants to see now. The classic artwork was clearly influenced by the Universal and Hammer films, which were all very gothic.

i actually didnl;t like the classic artowrk (pre-rondo) it was just i felt to bulky and and movie themed well it had that B rated movie quality, the fact simon looks like he could be on roids is a problem. but i dunno i play the games for the games, not for the artwork. artwork is merely suger coating to entice you, well figure lots of people like them pretty graphics well i guess that was way wrong (looks towards sony's gamble) when it comes down to it tho a balance of gameplay and visuals should be applied, and its been stated the wii is different so yes the games it gets are going to be different.

I always thought the Simon's Quest cover was awesome, until I discovered it was basically ripped off from another artist(in the tradition of some other CV game covers, like Contra).

Strange enough, I only now recognize how Dracula's sporting MAJOR lipstick in the CV1 artwork, though back in the day, I thought he looked so freakin wicked!!

Its not Dracula, its the Joker, and that guy there isn't Simon, its Conan the Barbarian. Also, William Shakespeare + He-Man = CV2 Simon.

I'd be interested in seeing a link to this supposed rip off. No seriously.

And yeah, Drac looks like Joker in the CV 1 art.

I like both art stlyes, but I definitely prefer my Belmonts with that look, or at least some muscles. Trevor from CoD was a closer mix of the two styles. And I like how he looks in CoD more than CV3, where he practically just wore Simon's CV1 armor again.

However, note how Simon's CV1 art's and SCV4 art's armor are almost identical. They kept his original design. I prefer the CV1/SCV4 look of Simon over the Chronicles one.

Also I must mention how beautiful the composition itself is in the CV1 painting.
