It's the only thing by Yahtzee I have ever found agreeable. The only gripe I had was with his assertion that abandoning the free-roaming meant it wasn't castlevania, as if that's what castlevania was all along; granted, it's an easy mistake to make, but it's still technically false.

Does anyone remember many weeks ago when one of the websites released a bunch of nice high quality illustrations of the monsters in the game? I am looking for those now and can't find them. I wanted to revel in the details now that I have played the game :) Thanks for the help!

This seems to be the most active LoS thread now. Anyway, I just beat the Clockwork Tower tonight. Castlevania 64 is rolling over in its grave. This was better than IGA's mechanical 3D tower as far as interactivity, and the platforming was probably the best in LoS so far, but this didn't have anything on what was done on the N64. Hard to believe it. And by the way, the camera angles at some spots really fooled me about where I could and could not go. That, and I couldn't get the first spinning lever to spin all the way for a looong time because I kept holding down the top trigger as I turned it. Somehow I thought that was how those levers worked, but you just click the top trigger and then turn. Ugh. And nary an enemy or Medusa head in sight. unheard of! :o

At least the atmosphere is somewhat better as of late (though still somehow lacking), and the Chromatic Observatory was rather interesting and featured a crazy swinging gap behind the green door. Frank's electric lab wasn't too bad, either. I've had my second Unhandled Error (at Olrox). Thankfully my save data still remains intact.

I did exactly the same!  I'm slightly ahead, at the third lord of shadow now--there are some really good levels leading up to that, better overall platforming, and a couple of clever (if rather easy) puzzles.  I'm actually getting into stride with the combat system now and beginning to appreciate it: the game has suddenly grown on me a bit.  The second-half of the game is definitely better, I can't help thinking if the framerate and controls were even just slightly better, it would be taken another level.

Good Eurogamer interview up, as linked on Cox's twitter:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-10-27-how-castlevania-nearly-didnt-happen-interview

"We didn't intend to create a blockbuster. That wasn't the plan. The plan was to reintroduce Castlevania. We didn't have a multimillion-dollar budget. We didn't have 300 people working on the project. We're a pretty small team. Not a huge budget – middle-size budget if you like. Nothing like the kind of titles we're compared to."

"The hype and build-up was amazing but a little bit scary. You don't expect that. I never expected people to cheer and clap at E3."

"The demo we released at E3 was a bit worrying ... I didn't want to drop them into a stage, die five times and go f*** that. I don't like it."

I'm actually glad that Cox & his staff's sights weren't set so high. I think they had realistic goals for LoS, in that they just wanted to re-invent things rather than to re-do what has already been done for almost 25 years. I respect that.

Now that the game has been out almost a month and the reviews/feelings/impressions have been largely positive, maybe they will take that and use it in a new direction for the sequel. Remember, LoS was/is a reboot. But also it's sort of like a guinea pig...a test baby if you will. Maybe the sequel will be radically different, who knows.

Bottom line: I think Cox & MS created a game that is epic and loads of fun to play and it lays down a promising groundwork for a sequel and future games. Count me in as one who can't wait to see what they do next!

Word.  While the game did have flaws, they did enough right that I think their next game might be amazing.  I really hope they get approval for the next game.

Even if the sales weren't that great, when you consider that it wasn't a big team and there was probably next to nothing spent on ads (though this really shouldn't have been the case) its very possible that the game did well enough for Konami to approve the next game.

Hey guys, I remember seeing a thread about a month wishing to congratulate Mercury Steam, however I could not find it. Anyways, Lords Of Shadow left a strong impression on me. Most games you beat, sell them and forget them. My point is, I would really like to thank David Cox/Mercury Steam and was interested if anyone else was still interested. I know some might view buying the game as enough, but you can really feel the love these guys put into the game and dedicated 2.5 years of their life. If you feel the way I do then by all means we could think of something to do, (Even if it was just an email signed from the dungeon.)   ;D
Btw my keyboard is currently broken and using the on screen keyboard, so tried to keep it short  8)

If LoS had just a little more of that (gorgeous orchestral remakes of old songs) it would have easily broken the AWESOMESAUCE/10 scale.

Is there a full list of what is used in LOS from the other game soundtracks? I hadnt noticed that one before.

Vampire Killer - Music Box
SCV4 - Waterfalls
SCV4 - Courtyard
Beginning - tiny bit at the end of Final Confrontation
