So I guess it's safe to say this game won't bode well for the original canon.

Too true. It seems the line about keeping an open mind means not to expect too many staples of all the other games.

And the statement that Mercurysteam decided themselves how much to incorporate from the old games kind of makes me nervous. I think that statement in itself tells you a lot of classic CV elements will be gone. Plus...Konami didn't require them to incorporate things from the series into this game? It almost sounds like they said, "Uh...give the guy a whip and then do whatever you want after that." This seems to contrast from the small budgets that I've always heard they held IGA's team to, although I'm probably comparing apples to oranges here.

I just hope it's a good game. If it's really a "rebirth" of the series, I just hope it's a damn good one.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

I wonder how much Iga knew about this other game and what this means for his new game.  Since they were contemplating letting Mercury Steam make the next full 3D Castlevania game, I HAVE to believe that Iga's Alucard game is intended to be a 2.5D game and that they were both intended to be released.  We don't know what the current status is on that other game, but there's hope.  I hope the deafening silence about this game is just Konami trying to be super secretive and not because the game went down the tubes.

If Alucard's game did turn out to be a 2.5D castleroid game and will be released, which game would you be more excited about?

Lords of Shadows of course.
The AlucardVania, in the best of the circunstances, will be a very polished usual type MetroidVania game. That's not bad, even could be great a big HD metroidVania, but personally I have been waiting for the big series 3D jump.
The AlucardVania will be very thanked IMO, we need to have more new-old stories  ;)

Maybe IGA is working on a Hideo Kojima franchise? Snatcher DS? Zone of the Enders 3? Hehe.

Soooo, Mercurysteam created the craptacular Clive Barker's Jericho? It's definitely not a good sign. Then again, WayForward did an excellent job on Contra 4, despite them making crappy games in the past.

I think the reason Contra 4 didn't sucks ince it was hevily inspired by contra 1-3.

Seriously, what's the problem with all the "reborn" thing?
What could happen to platafforming if Prince of Persia hadn't have its reboot? or the hack'n slash without the reboot of Ninja Gaiden? or to the gaming world without the reboot of Mario Bros that became SUper Mario Bros? Many of the reboots in gaming history have been succesful and even better than the original series. I beg you, stay calm, don't judge this game for a trailer, give it a chance, and wait.
After all, we played the ShitJudgement, this CAN'T be worse.

I think the difference with the reboots of the other series were that they at least retained the themes or key developers that were responsible for the originals. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time's story was written by Jordan Mechner, the creator of the original series. Ninja Gaiden, despite rebooting, kept Ryu Hayabusa's character, as well as the "Japanese ninja/mysticism vs strange looking demons" theme that were present in the earlier games, as well. Mario Bros's reboot to Super Mario Bros? Shigeru Miyamoto! Of course, Mario and Luigi remained the same, as well.

I think people have an easier time adjusting to a reboot if they have something to hold on to, like a familiar character reappearing or a trusted developer of the original series returning to guide the new vision. If not, in most people's minds, it's just a shot in the dark.

And so it will be: goth castles, whip (Originally chain) guy killing myth creatures, and perhaps Dracula. Is Castlevania enough for me.

The issue I believe that a lot of ppl have is the game bein referred to as a remake over and over again

Some ppl feel that the sales pitch may be a distraction or a coverup on how terrible the game will turn out.

If this game has as little to do the established CVs as the Xbox Ninja Gaidens have with the NES ones, it would be Castlevania in name only.  Just like the Xbox NGs are Ninja Gaiden in name only.

Yeah, but even the XBOX Ninja Gaiden games featured Ryu Hayabusa. It's equivalent in Lords of Shadow would be to say that Gabriel is indeed "Gabriel Belmont", or that Dracula IS present.

Strange enough, I had a dream last night where I was at some video game convention's panel and people were saying that Lords of Shadow DID have Dracula(who was the final boss). Konami(whom the panel was for) showed on a large screen that the final area(the castle keep) was actually an ascending tower made of intertwining tree branches. The stage, itself, was a vertical forest where all the trees sported skull faces, and you fought Dracula in the midst(the heart) of the forest clearing. It was a dream, so yeah, it was strange and made no sense at all now that I think about it.  ;D

If there's anything that would make me hate the classic Castlevania games, it most certainly isn't the games themselves; but rather, that ignorant fraction of their fanbase.
