But it's like having Metroid without Samus, Tomb Raider without Lara or Resident Evil without Zombies or some sort of virus/parasite  with connections to Umbrella. I haven't heard of the Tomb Raider reboot, but I can only guess Lara's the main heroine(even if it starts a new continuity). They'll all keep true the themes that the originals were known for. I mean, even how different Mario Galaxy was, there were a lot of Super Mario themes that were retained(starmen, enemies, pipes).

Also, though you might hate the "tired" SMB formula, obviously people still love it. People still love the LoZ games, and considering what Nintendo said recently, each that aren't directly tied to another are their own "reboots", yet retain Link, Zelda, Ganon/Ganondorf and the Tri-Force. You don't have to drastically change something to make it better, or even toss out the old one for a completely different new one. I mean, it's not like the old one is beyond repair. It's like, you don't toss out your child just because he becomes a stupid teenager and does makes a few dumb mistakes. You don't say, "Well, Jr, you're outta here! Mom and I decided that we are going to start over, and have a new kid! See if he turns out different and BETTER than you!".  ;D

It's not like, suddenly, they decided to totally reinvent Mario, make him some Mad Max-esque warrior batting rival motorcycle gangs in the middle of a wasteland. You can explore other options without purging the little things fans consider tradition.

Well, to be fair, one of the defining characteristics of Castlevania games up to 1997 was that they always featured a chainwhip-wielding hero.

That is true, but LoS also features a whip-wielding hero.  We don't know yet if Dracula will or won't be in it.  And there is a good chance that classic monsters will be featured (we already know there will be werewoves).  Basically, I think we just need to be patient and give it more time, before we start getting negative and accusing them of making something entirely different into Castlevania.

Yeah I think patience is key here, since we have so little info.

That doesn't make it any easier... :(

I read the stuff from GI but it doesn't bother me. This game is slated for next year (if it comes out then...), so a heck of a lot can change between now and then. Hopefully we'll see more at TGS or sooner.

I actually hope it does. I mean, look at Bottle Rocket's Splatterhouse for PS3/X360. There was some things Namco Bandai didn't like, so that took the project from them and decided to finish it in house. Some aspects of BR's version will remain, but a lot of the enemies and some of the locations will be totally redone.

I dont think it really matters if LoS has no belmont or dracula, it makes no difference to the gameplay.

Exactly and isnt that what games are about? Nearly no one will suffer thru a horrible game cause it has a great story. But damn near everyone will play a great game with a shitty story.

Considering what BR wanted to do via concept art, I do think it's a good idea. Seemingly they wanted Biggy Man to be this plastic bag-over-face, obexe Hellraiser reject in the reboot, but they said they cut that design now and are redesigning Biggy to look more like his original SH1 design(Giant humanoid with a potato sack over his head, a noose neck tie, and bubbling putrid red skin). A lot of the un-Splatterhouse-ish monsters from BR's days are also being removed(hopefully for more Splatterhouse-ish monsters).

If there's anything that would make me hate the classic Castlevania games, it most certainly isn't the games themselves; but rather, that ignorant fraction of their fanbase.

I kinda agree. I consider myself a big RPG fan, but I cannot, for the life of me, sit through Legend of Dragoon and Vagrant Story because the gameplay. Though I hear the stories are pretty good. Of course, if the gameplay's fun, the story could be as simple as "Let's save the princess from the dark knight!" and I'll be game!

I'm 50/50 to be honest. I usually do play RPG's for the story, so if it sucks, good gameplay or not, if the story is lame or easy to guess, I usually won't bother. I guess mainly because I play to many other games in different genres where the story doesn't matter that much and still has great gameplay. However, I do make exceptions if I really love the gameplay or vise versa, if I really like the story and want to see where it goes next, even if I hate playing through it.

As far as this game goes, it's not really going to be about the story for me (though I hope it is at least decent). Though I will be a bit put out if there isn't at least something that reminds me of the older games. I don't want to it to be something outstanding but I don't want this game to be 'Castlevania' only in the terms 'because that's the name on the game'.
