Yeah a Belmont who failed every now and then would be nice. And one that you actually play as, not just something to open with in the game's prologue.

Looking at the artwork of the game, for some reason it reminds me Vagrant Story and since we haven't seen any major information or game play, i want to believe that it will be a very good change for castlevania this new direction, having the old school game play into 3D.

Yeah, that'd be kinda cool, actually.

One thing that still bothers me about all this. . .was this game a Castlevania from the start and they just recently revealed the connection? or was this a game already in development that Konami decided to retcon by slapping the name on it and hoping Kojima's name would lead to better sales?

If its the former, I'm very, very disappointed, even more so if, as I have a sneaking suspicion, they axed Iga and the SoTN sequel in the process.

Everyone here has mentioned their criteria for this game living up to the name, and so far, they've been minimal at best--a whip-wielding hero, Dracula as the antagonist, candles somewhere--I want to see some more exploration elements and armor, whip, item collection and/or customization to retain the better RPG elements from the earlier entries. If this is a straight hack n slash God of War combat clone I'll lose interest fairly quickly.

I realize this shows me as having loyalties from the second school of Castlevania design, and that many here would be happy without any role playing elements, but my opinion stands.

If I forgot "everything I knew about Castlevania" I certainly wouldn't be excited about a new one coming out now would I?

Seems the whole thing was done in the vein of SH4. It started as a separate title, but they decided to make it Castlevania.

And unless they work to make it truly in the spirit of CV, this will be cheap from the fan perspective. Even if this turned out to be a kickass game on its own right.

Include skeletons as enemies. Include the best parts of the mythos in one form or another. Candles. Vampires. All the little things that build CV.

Saw the trailers, it looks promising, though there was no scenes of him walking about just him already in attacks. Can't really get a sense of how the transition of movement to attack is going to be. I know I've hated the previous 3d cv games, in that aspect. But then there weren't many games that looked good in that aspect in my eyes.

From what I've seen though, I like it. I still want to know about the Alucard trailer thing though... what will happen or has happened to it.

Also..... 2010, sucks that it's coming so damn late... but since it is, it better be damn good.

I disagree. In my opinion, the Belmonts are destined to destroy Dracula. However, if somebody like Alucard or Hector were to lose, it would be understandable.

I disagree. It's a mission they set out to do, it doesn't mean that they'll be able to do it, let alone do it every time. I agree that Belmont's should have less than perfect number of wins. (I always had, and already thought of ideas on it, just can't do much with em >.>)

Also, I don't know if it's been said but this really is a completely reimagining of the series. I don't mind either way, as long as it's good.

EDIT: Oh yea, Patrick Stewart for the effin WIN!

Actually, if Gabriel IS a Belmont, I do like the idea that a Belmont wouls stray from vampire hunting to search out a  dark relic just for the sake of reviving his wife. To me, that's a better reason than what they had for Victor Belmont(I just don't want to fight vampires!!).

Wtf are you talking about? The Alucard game looked more interesting? All the trailer showed was a poorly made 3D model of Alucard.

I agree, I don't see how that makes it more interesting.  Based on the latest info we had gotten on Iga's PS3/360 'Vania, he hadn't even decided whether he wanted to make a 2D game with hi-res graphics, or copy the Zelda formula and make it 3D open world.  The only thing that could make that game more interesting to people is that Iga was involved, and it had Alucard in it.  It goes back to the fanbo...err, I mean "loyalty" that some 'vania fans still have to SotN.  Symphony was a great game, I agree, and its had its run of sequels (six to be exact).  Its time to move on.  If this means that Iga's PS3/360 project featuring the poorly made 3D model of Alucard has been scrapped in favor of Lords of Shadow, I'm all for that.

At least one of the screen shots sports some evidence of platforming. (its the one where he has his whip latched to the wall and he's running on it)

I just hope that we see more castlevania influence later on. At this point, with all the knowledge we have now of this title i give it 40% chance of being relatable to castlevania. (It's a bit optimistic...but it'll do for now.
