I'm gonna start considering all this talk about "Castlevania Reborn" and "Forget what you think you know about Castlevania" stuff as a bunch of hype done for dramatic effect. Once I've played it, I'll make a judgment about if it really is a reboot or incompatible with the rest of the series storyline-wise.
As far as the lack of Vampires go, I'm fine with it. If takes place in southern Europe, not Transylvania, so it's okay if the evil beasts roaming around there are different than those in Transylvania. The further it's removed from Transylvania, the better chance it has of not rubbing elbows with the rest of the Castlevania series and it can do its own thing more easily. I wouldn't mind seeing a truly Japanese Castlevania game with Samurais and Japanese mythological creatures for that matter. At least that way, they wouldn't recycle Rondo of Blood sprites. I would love to see Maxim Kischine go to Japan for some training under a Japanese ninja master and run up against some local demon problems.
I don't mind Castlevania "expanding" into other territory like this, but would mind if it completely "became" this something else. Which is why I'm really hoping this isn't a true reboot. I'm sure other Castlevania games will still be produced over the years the old gothic style, so I'm not worried. If three games like this are made with nothing more familiar in between, then I might become concerned.
